PROLOGUE:

A SECOND CHANCE

INT. TOKYO-MORNING

(A fourteen year old boy is walking down the street, on his way to school. Headphones strapped over his head and a duffle bag at his side. He has long dark hair and a black eye. His headphones are playing Heavy Metal at the highest volume setting. He is looking down at the ground as he walks forward, not paying attention to the world around him. He doesn’t want to be a part of this world and has therefore escaped into his own fantasy. Earlier that morning he woke up for school, just like any other day.)

INT. THE BOY’S ROOM

(The boy sits up from his bed and shuts off his annoying alarm. He rubs his eyes and then walks out of his room and goes into the bathroom. He eventually finishes getting ready and leaves the bathroom, going to his room to get changed. His little brother, who is 7 years old walks into the bathroom, behind him, still half asleep.)

Little brother: Good morning, Yoshiro!

Yoshiro: Morning, Jiro.

(Yoshiro ruffles Jiro’s hair, as he walks by. Yoshiro walks into his room and gets dressed in his school uniform. He gathers up his text books and puts them into his duffle bag. He hears yelling, outside his room and hurries out to see what could be wrong. Much to his anger he sees his father yelling at his little brother, as usual. His father is holding, his brother’s report card.)

Father: Jiro, you need to get your grades up! You don’t have a single A and most of your grades are D’s and C’s!

Jiro: I’m trying, but I don’t understand it! You won’t help me!

Father: Don’t talk back, Jiro! This is your own fault! Don’t blame others for your shortcomings! Maybe, if you spent less time playing with those stupid dolls and more time studying, you would do better!

(Tears pour out of Jiro’s eyes.)

Father: Knock it off!

(Yoshiro grabs his dad’s shoulder and turns him around.)

Yoshiro: Dad, stop, he’s trying. Maybe, if you’d help him, once in a while…

Father: Was I talking to you, Yoshiro? This conversation had nothing to do with you.

Yoshiro: Dad, you’re making him cry! He’s only seven!

(Suddenly, Yoshiro falls to the ground, feeling the pain of his father’s fist against his eye.)

Father: Get up and get to school, now.

(Jiro tries to hold back his tears, as Yoshiro gets up and, angrily, walks past his father. You’d think he would’ve known better than to talk back to his father, as this was not the first time his father had hit him. But, he cares far too much for his brother and didn’t think about his well-being at the time. As he walks down stairs he sees many empty beer bottles, lying around to his dad’s favorite chair. Tears fill up the bottom of his eyes, but he rubs his eyes and exits his house. He pulls his CD player out of his duffle bag and puts on his headphones. He makes his way down the street, hoping that his brother doesn’t suffer the same punishment he had to endure. Suddenly, on the nearby bridge above him, a group of thugs begin a small gang war.)

Thug: I’ll teach you to mess with me, you son of a bitch!

(The thugs pull out guns and begin firing at one another. They run across the bridge and make their way down to the streets, Yoshiro is walking along. Yoshiro notices none of this, over his headphones. One of the thugs runs up behind Yoshiro, as another thug is chasing after him, firing at him. He quickly dives to the side and a stray bullet pierces the back of Yoshiro’s skull. The bullet passes through the other side and he falls forward, dying. The thugs continue on, as if nothing had happened. Just before blacking out Yoshiro pictures his brother, the one person he had to live for.)

CHAPTER 29:

This is it! The final Chapter! I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I do!

EXT. JIRO’S APARTMENT-AFTERNOON

(Yuriko rushes up to Jiro’s apartment and begins knocking on his door, intent on finding out whether or not he is okay.)

INT. HELL

(Jiro’s soul is floating next to the portal to Earth. He slowly wakes up and looks around, confused. He sees Yoshiro floating, in front of him. Jiro’s eyes widen, as he realizes who he is looking at.)

Yoshiro: Hey, Jiro.

(Yoshiro scratches the back of his head, a bit unsure of what to say.)

Jiro: …Yoshi… It can’t be… I’ve got to be dreaming!

Yoshiro: No, I can assure you that you’re wide awake.

Jiro: Then I must be…

Yoshiro: No, not yet, thankfully. But, we’re gonna have to make this quick. I don’t have much time. I’m s…

(Yoshiro looks away, ashamed.)

Yoshiro: I’m sorry that I wasn’t there… I’m sorry that I didn’t get to be there to watch you and guide you as you grew into a fine young man.

Jiro: Why?

(Yoshiro looks up at Jiro. Jiro is crying hysterically. He quickly covers his eyes, trying to stop the tears.)

Jiro: Why are you f***ing apologizing, when you know damn well that it’s my fault that you weren’t there?!?! If I had just done my homework dad wouldn’t have gotten mad at you!

Yoshiro: Just stop. I can’t stand to watch you beat yourself up over something you had NO control over. My death was… unfortunate and an accident. It wasn’t something that you could’ve stopped, so stop acting like you could’ve. You’re only hurting yourself and wasting your life. I don’t blame you and I never have.

(Jiro remembers his conversation with Takao at the ski resort.)

Jiro: It was you… the whole time. You were Takao.

Yoshiro: You figured that one out, huh?

Jiro: God, how did I not see it before?! All the signs were there…

Yoshiro: Come one, bro! You’re too hard on yourself, about every little thing! You need to relax. Sure, you didn’t have a great childhood, but look at you now! You turned that all around and you’re making something of yourself! In fact, you already have. You’re at a great university, top of your class; you have some awesome friends and a beautiful girlfriend who adores you!

Jiro: Not anymore, I don’t. I f***ed that up, just like I always do.

EXT. JIRO’S APARTMENT

(Yuriko realizes that Jiro’s door is unlocked and she opens it up, hurrying inside.)

Yuriko: Jiro! Jiro, are you okay?!

INT. HELL

Yoshiro: It’s not over, yet. She’s crazy about you, bro. You can turn this all around, just like you always do.

(Yoshiro floats over to Jiro and ruffles his hair.)

Jiro: I can’t do this, Yoshi! Not alone.

Yoshiro: You’re not alone, you never were. Just get back up there and tell Yuriko that you’re an idiot and you’re sorry!

(Jiro lets out a brief chuckle. Yoshiro smiles, which causes Jiro to continue to laugh, uncontrollably. Yoshiro joins in and the two brothers laugh together.)

Jiro: …Thanks, Yoshi.

Yoshiro: No problem. I’m glad that I could be there for you, as a brother should.

Jiro: Will I ever see you again?

Yoshiro: I’m sure of it. Actually…

INT. JIRO’S APARTMENT

(Yuriko walks into Jiro’s bedroom and sees his lifeless body, lying in his bed. Her heart sinks, as she fears the worst. She slowly sulks over to his body. She leans down and places her head to his chest. She waits a moment, but unfortunately she hears nothing at all. Yuriko drops to her knees and bursts into tears.)

Yuriko: No…no!...NO, NO, NO, NO, NOOOOO!

(Yuriko’s tears pour onto the floorboards, as she spirals into despair. Suddenly, Jiro’s hand twitches. His hand reaches over and grasps her hand. She quickly looks up and sees Jiro, smiling at her. Her eyes widen and she stops crying.)

Jiro: I’m sorry and… I’m an idiot.

(Yuriko leaps on top of Jiro, hugging him as tightly as she can.)

Yuriko: I love you, Jiro! I can’t do this; we should’ve never broken up!

Jiro: No, it’s my fault. I should’ve been there for you, as a boyfriend should. I promise that I will be better in the future and I swear that I’ll never make you cry, again.

(Jiro grabs Yuriko and kisses her, passionately. This isn’t cheesy! This is raw, unfiltered, passion! Alright, that’s enough of that…)

INT. HELL

(Ronin is lying in a pile of sharp thorns, unable to move through the sheer pain. His arms, neck, and legs are chained to the ground and the demon standing over him is torching his face with a flamethrower. Yoshiro walks by Ronin and lies down on the ground. Dave walks up, holding a chainsaw.)

Dave: I’m not sure I can do this, Yoshiro. You don’t deserve this!

Yoshiro: It’s alright, Dave. I’m willing to accept my punishment. Besides, just because the present looks bleak, doesn’t mean that the future will be.

(A lone tear runs down Dave’s left cheek, as he revs up the chainsaw.)

INT. JIRO’S MANSION-HEAVEN-1000 YEARS LATER

(Outside Jiro’s mansion, the souls and angels of Heaven roam the streets, happily talking. Inside, Jiro, Yuriko, Goro, and Honda are sitting in the kitchen, laughing and talking. Each of them appears to be in their late 20s, early 30s.)

Jiro: You know it’s a good thing that they lifted that ban on Homosexuals before you guys got here!

(Honda begins rubbing Goro’s shoulders.)

Goro: Yeah, when they realized that a guy as rad as Neil Patrick Harris was gay, God had no choice but to let us in!

Honda: Today’s the day, right?

Jiro: Yeah, he should be here, any second.

(As Yoshiro narrates the next passage picture a young man in a white suit is walking through Heaven.)

Yoshiro(narration): I’m sure of it. Actually, Lucifer told me that even though many demons and souls don’t know this, Hell works a lot like the prisons on Earth. Minor crimes get minor sentences and major crimes get major sentences. A guy like Ronin… he’ll be in Hell for the rest of eternity. But, a guy like me, whose only crimes was atheism and breaking out of Hell, my sentence is much less severe.

(The young man in the white suit walks up to Jiro’s door and knocks on the door. Jiro smiles and gets up to answer the door. He opens the door, greeting his brother Yoshiro, albeit, his hair has changed from its gray color back to its original black color.)

Jiro: Welcome home, Yoshi.

A WORD FROM THE AUTHOR:

Thank you all for reading my story, I've worked very hard on this and it's something that I am fairly proud of. I always enjoyed the concept of a young boy coming back to life to hang out with his now older brother, but not as brothers, as friends. However, even though I enjoyed the concept, the details and actual writing was a nightmare! That's actually why the story went on hiatus in it's early chapters. But, I think it turned out well, and I hope you all feel the same! Anyway, I have three other stories posted on the site, the links are in my Sig and on my Profile page. Now that I am finished with this story I will be returning to "Eva" in the hopes of finishing that up soon, as well. Again, thank you all and I hope that you all will give some of my other stories a shot, as well!!!!

Yeah, it was just really hard to come up with day-to-day activities for Yoshiro and Jiro to do, in order to bond. It was something that I feel like I could still expand upon, but I'm at least happy with what I have, at the moment. :D

What a great ending.

Awesome ending !! My body is ready for you to finish "Eva" NAO !!!! xD

Thank you!

P.S. I know, Flaming Lea, I know. xD

This story was so damn amazing! I absolutely loved it! You have such amazing talent! Keep on writing! Actually, cause of your stories, I'm thinking of rewriting my story in a third person view and probably similar writing style.

Thank you! xD I'm glad that I've inspired and influenced you! I definitely enjoy writing, but I'm not so great at novel style writing, so I write in the form of a film script. It's far more natural, for me.

You could probably write for short films, TV shows, movies, etc but that's a lot more work.

That's actually my goal! xD I would love to be a film writer and I have tried contacting companies before. Getting your foot in the door is the hardest part. lol But, this story, I would much rather it be an animated TV series, if anything.

I agree! This would definitely be a good short animated series! You could probably find a person on Newgrounds who wouldn't mind doing a flash series. If you find someone, you could probably send it to a company and see if it can be made into an actual show. Newgrounds has been a great site for games to become full games on consoles, maybe the same can happen for flash movies! =D

Yeah, if it were a show I would just add some more bonding moments for Jiro and Takao, more fight scenes with Jimmy witnessing everything, add different kinds of demons and even make major demon villains for them to deal with! I think that this would be the best idea for an animated TV series, that I could personally come up with. lol

What network would you want it on? It obviously wouldn't be on Cartoon Network, Disney or Nick lol
