In "KH: tSofD.", it takes place, within an alternate reality, which, if set in the canon of the main Kingdom Hearts series, would take place, during the events of Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days, anyways, ahem:
"This is the story of two young men, seen wearing the standard Organization XIII clothing of a black coat, a pair of black gloves and a pair of black boots, of which, these two, despite wearing the very same clothes that obviously, as previously mentioned, that the members of Organization XIII would wear, these two young men are not aligned, at all, with them, instead, are they on their very own side, with their very own group, whom they call the "XIII Shadows", a group, that, unlike Organization XIII, prefers to work in the Light and meddle with their plans, by making sure that Organization XIII do not even get the slightest chance, at all, of using any or every Keyblade wielder that they can find and will, to help them achieve their goals and so, to make sure Organization XIII doesn't succeed this time around, does the leader of the XIII Shadows, send the two young men into the Dreaming Realm, believing that Xemnas, the leader of Organization XIII, may have plans for it and so, if he does, must the two foil them, as they now currently travel into the Dreaming Realm, using the Corridors of Darkness, to, help them navigate all of the Worlds that they can find in the Dreaming Realm, with them currently managing to find at least six Worlds to choose from and then, upon entering those Worlds, must they use the powers that they have been blessed with, upon joining the XIII Shadows and use them to recruit the monsters that lurk within the Dreaming Realm, the Dream Eaters, namely, in this case, the Nightmares, as they help the two young men fight off the Nightmares's counterparts, the Dream Eater Spirits, that, feeling the dark aura surrounding the two young men, intend to make sure that they do not continue on, within the Dreaming Realm, regardless of their intentions, even when they decide to help others, for no good reason whatsoever, as they see helping others can be a good way of not wasting time, while also trying to find out Xemnas's intentions for the Dreaming Realm, as previously mentioned up above and now, let the story begin!
