-July 11th, 2022. Day 000.-

"Master Nonako! You're home early!" A maid exclaimed, watching as the light-brown male walked into their mansion, an elaborate, two-floor behemoth of a house, that gleamed and sparkled from the amount of antiques and valuables.

"School's out early. That new irtual game is releasing today." Nonako said, his tone low.

"Ah! That reminds me..Butler Tonaki was able to get one of those...gear nerve helmets, with the game. It should be hooked up by our IT expert in your room."

Nonako smirked a little, "I'll be in my room, then."

Rei sat in her room, everything she need to step into a new world was set out before her. All she need to do was put the Helm on. She smiled, like always. Her life seemed so easy to her now. Aside from a few beatings now and then, she had it easy. Now to step in a new world. Could she do it? Could she really step into this new world before her? Rei sat there on her bed thinking hard about her next step. "No,I have to." She reminded herself aloud.

Rei was right about that,if she used her hush money wastefully they'd beat her again. 'They' being her parents. At least that's what Japan could them. Parents were far from the right word, nor was it the best. "Still better then the lab." She thought.

Slowly she lifted her 'portal' to her head. "Here I go." She whispered.

Nonako sat in a chair; a gaming seat fit for someone who spent way too much time -and had too much money- playing video games. He felt, for a VR game, sitting in this plush black seat (With built-in speakers, head-set jacks, and all the goodies) would best fit his needs.

"Here I go." He whispered, "Sorry dad. I know you want me to make a name for myself...but.." Nonako looked down as he inserted the game's cartridge into the NerveGear's slot, and then he put on the blue helmet, a black shield forming as a cover for his eyes.

"...Link, Start!" He announced. He knew the command phrase well, the access command to enter the game. It was in the manual, and from the many videos online. He felt his body suddenly jerk a small bit, his finger (covered by the pulse-monitor on his finger) twitching as he watched pillars of colors float past him.

And everything went to black, as a login-in screen appeared. It was blue, with two prompts for a username and password. With his mind, Nonako entered in his credentials.

Rie's did another check on the gear on her body, the system and everything else. After a few slow deep breaths she slide the Helm on. She adjusted the gear once more. "Okay," She breathed "I'm ready." She confirmed.

She made sure not to be to loud, but hear-a-ble."Link," She said shakily "start.." She felt a little scared.

The world seemed to go dark, then go to swirls of color. This happened for a bit before the game finished loading and brought her to a blue login screen. She breathed a sigh of relief. She finally was able to play this game. She typed her User Name: And Password in. Now the game could really start.

Nonako sucked in a bit of air as the character creation screen popped up. It asked him basic things, (He wasn't exactly within the VR realm yet, he still could feel the outside world) like to gauge his basic weight and height, among other things. Why it was asking this, while the creation screen allowed for anything to be made. He let out a sigh, thinking the whole process must be for calibration.

Nonako opted for a persona that looked like himself. He chose the name Nohara -a combination of his first and last name- and then, everything went black. He went numb as everything shook gently. His eyes were closed, his hand clenched.

Welcome to Sword Art Online.

~

Nohara opened one eye, then the other. He was sitting on a grassy knoll that over looked a very quaint town. Already, players were running around, getting the feel for the world. Beyond the town was a tower, which lead up to the second floor of the world.

"Wow." Nohara whispered, moving his arm around, "It feels so..real.."

"Ah." Rei sighed."Still a bit more to go." She quickly answered all the questions.

Finally the important part came. Her Avatar, well she chose to look like herself. Now the Name:...she had open picked out Glich Hated-LiEs. It was rather dark for her good happy nature, but this place was different. Now finally the game would start. Every thing went dark and she closed her eyes. The ground shook quickly. After it stopped she slowly opened her eyes.

Nohara stood up, but nearly fell down. He laughed maniacally. He felt like he was high, laughing for no reason after falling down like a baby. The game would take some getting used to, that was for sure. Eventually, he managed to right himself. Now, instead of his school uniform, he wore a green tunic covered by a brown leather chestpiece that stopped above the mid-stomach, and has straps that went around his sides and back.

Flicking his hand upwards, a screen popped up along with the movement. It was a trick he learned on a video; the menu screen showing everything. Stats, basic info, inventory, guild, group, friends, stuff like that. It even had a section for relationships, say how close friends were.

"Five-hundred dollars well spent.." Nohara whispered, his body giddy from the rush. Everything seemed so real and life-like; he almost feared it was a dream.

Glich sat up. Her legs had gone weak from the change. She slowly opened her eyes. "W-whoa...." She gasped.

She laid back and started to roll around. The sky was blue, the grass was green. It smelled clean and fresh. She rolled around a little more before sitting up. Now she tried to stand and was able to. She looked around the area. "This was fun~" She said happily.

Nohara found himself messing with his arms and legs, trying to get a feel for the world. Eventually, he checked his inventory. The only thing in it at the moment was a Practice Sword. Equipping it, a very basic iron blade materialized in his left hand. He swung it a few times, surprised that the sword almost felt like it had weight to it.

"This game is impossible.." He whipsered, surprised by everything.

Sheathing the blade, he smiled widely. With a cheerful mind, he set foot for the beginning village.

Glich was wearing what looked to be light leather armor around what seemed to be a white shirt and a plain skirt. "Oh plain." She muttered.

She opened the menu. She glanced at it. "Oh,well~" Still fun~" She got up.

Shake-aly she took a few steps. After some time she was able to walk normally. You slowly looked around the area. This time she noticed a town far off.

Imagine the basic fantasy village. Quaint, and suitable for the beginner adventurer's needs. That was the beginner's town, the first floor safe-zone that had shops, dining, and a large plaza set-up for in-game events.

Nohara wandered around the town, a smile still plastered on his face as he looked at everyone else. It all felt perfect. The world felt real. NPCs walked about, acting realistic in their duties, and the shopkeepers even spoke and acted like you would imagine a person would.

Nohara sighed happily, resting against a wall that line the plaza. There was another area like this, a small training ground also designed for meetings. But the beauty of the main plaza was oh so satifiying for the rich-born teen.

Glich started her walk to the town. "This must be the spawn point." She muttered happily.

She looked around as she walked. "This game is worth every penny spent." She thought.

She headed to the town center once she entered it.

Nohara sighed. As amazing as this was, he wanted to fight. He had heard wondrous things from the beta testers, and hoped the fighting lived up to expectations.

But all the good areas may be swarmed by everyone else. Should I wait...or..? Nohara thought as he walked, nearly bumping into a guy. Like Nohara, he wore the basic tunic-leather piece, but his was blue. He had black hair and grey eyes.

"Sorry." Nohara said curtly. The boy looked at him, nodding once before walking off.

Glich started to look for some one to talk to. She looked around feeling lost. Yet,one thing. She didn't know how to find a friend,or how to make one. Once again she felt alone. She didn't really ever learn people skills. Glich looked around at all the passing people. "Who do I trust? How do I trust?" She thought slowly.

She kept walking without looking where she was going. "I don't know how to start..." Her mind whispered.

Nohara grumbled something. The boy was rude, that was for sure. He shook his head, looking around at the crowd. Some people were getting into groups, while others walked around awkwardly. Nohara had no intention on joining up with anyone. Of course, if someone were to ask him, then he might oblige. That didn't mean, though, that he would go out of his way to do anything.

Nohara reared for the exit, simply wanting to return to the fields. Hopefully there would still be something to slay to pass the time. Then he'd exit, and return the next day. Thank god for release days on weekends.

Glich saw a boy she thought was cute. She ran over him and stop in his path. "Y-your cute a-and...d-d-do you need help...? U-um...nevermind! Your...f-fine..." She turned away and quickly walked away. Her face was red.

She hurried as fast as she could. "My mom would smack me if she know I was this weak..." She slumped.

Nohara blinked, turning. A girl was standing there, her face blushing. Nohara was still astonished at the game's capabilities, and her blush struck him as awe-aspiring. He smiled at that, but it turned awkward.

He didn't like women. As kind as he was, he didn't know how to react to girls his age.

"I..uh..if you..want to...I wasn't all too interested in joining up...b-but..if you want to, sure..." He said. He wasn't blushing, or embarrassed, just awkward. The girl was cute...but he didn't feel anything towards her. He never believed in love at first sight.

Gligh spun around and hugged him. "Oh..no...s-sorry..." She pulled away.

"Oh..I..I mean....I...it's just...er...um...you...see...and uh....that's the story." She finished lamely.

  • Author

"Story?" Nohara asked, confused.

This girl's a bit...odd. He thought, sighing as he looked away, "A-anyway, can we..go..? I want to get some training in before I head off...I have dinner later on." Nohara said, deciding mentioning his rich lifestyle was out of the question.

He turned around again, ready to leave town.

"Oh,yeah...I bet I do too..." Glich said in a hushed tone.

She looked down but added. "Yeah,we can train." She whispered.

Nohara nodded to her. His hearbeat was 'racing'. He could feel that, but he wasn't sure if it was the game or his actually heart. That was how powerful the game was, it made one question what exactly was the real and what exactly was the virtual.

As Nohara walked out of town and back out into the grassy fields, he felt it was too quiet at first. And that made him feel even more awkward. Why was it so quiet? Had he done something wrong? Maybe he needed to do something to start up one..

"S-so...uh..w-what was your name,again..?" He asked, looking back at her.

"Just Glich is fine." Glich told him rather cool like.

She knew the blush still held on her face. "Your's?"  She asked.

  • Author

"Nohara." He replied, that being the first word he uttered that was actually comprehensible and lacked a stutter. Nohara attempted a smile, failing at is as the awkwardness set in again.

Throughout his life, the only females he knew was his mother -who he barely saw-, the maids, and his cousin; who he hated and had plans to end the life of once he got the chance.

"Are you, alright?" Glich asked as she tilted her head.

She looked at him. "Your looking pale. " She added.
