How long does it Take to level Sora and Riku

So I just got KH:DDD a few days ago ago, and I'm at Notre Dam and My dream eaters are level 10 and what not but Sora and Riku are level 1! Someone explain to me what is going on. Also I'm playing on Proud aaaaand sorry if someone posted something on this topic before but come on there are like a million topics and a billion ways to word this.

check to see if you have EXP 0 on by mistake. You'd have to avoiding all encounters to be at level one at that point.

You go into your ability sub-menu and select exp-zero and turn it off. Otherwise you don't get any exp from anything.

EXP zero is a fairly standard critical KH ability, it gives the game extra challenge. But it shouldn't be auto-equipped, that's just cruel.
