"Why!? Why do you have to go!?" The woman cried. The man glared back, trying his best to refrain from tearing up. The three children watched while their father prepared to leave.
"I must, for Ralea is invading our glorious country of Xetha, and stealing our land! Don't you want our kids to grow up in a peaceful world, without those damn Raleans, killing in the streets?" The father, Alan Pasco, replied.
"...Look, it's not my choice. They've sent a draft notice. Even if it was my choice, I would still choose to protect my country." He finished. He strapped on his boots, to add to his black attire, and walked over to his oldest daughter, Jade, who was twenty-six and had two children of her own. He then said:
"Your number one priority should be your children, Fauna and Bianca. Keep them safe, as I have you. Goodbye, Jade."
Fauna was Jades youngest daughter, at two years old, and Bianca at age four. At this point in time, they were with their father, Syven, who was waiting at home.
He then turned to Nini, who was fourteen, and had great resemblance to Jade. They both had dark red hair, brown eyes, and they both were protective over those younger than themselves.
"Nini, if I'm not back by next year, take care of your mother, and your brother for me. Goodbye, Nini." Alan, once again, spoke with great sorrow in his voice. He doubted he would return by the next year. Nini started crying. She rushed to her sister, Jade, as if trying to get away from her father’s eyes.
"Tycen, My son, come here" Alan said.
Tycen was six at this point in time. He didn't understand what 'drafted' or 'invading' meant, but he knew his father was leaving for awhile. Slowly, He walked towards Alan, not noticing how slow he was actually going.
"Now then, Tycen," Alan said as he pulled out something from his pocket.
It was a small, dark blue stone. He opened Tycens hand, and dropped the stone into it.
"Never lose this. It's something from me to you. Now, when I come back, I expect you to still have that stone, you hear?" Alan then walked away from Tycen, and towards his wife. He then grasped her hand and said:
“I love you, Salia, Don't ever forget it. I'll be back in a year or two. I promise." Alan let loose a single tear from his eye. He knew the promise would comfort her, even if he couldn't keep it.
“I know you will, Alan. I love you too." She had responded. She had been crying for awhile, but at this point, her tears started falling a little faster.
He gave her a quick kiss, than he picked up a medium sized sack, with small strings at the end.
He said one last goodbye, and then walked out the door. His grey stallion was waiting for him, though not paying attention while he tied the sack to the side of the saddle. Alan slowly climbed onto his horse, waved goodbye, and rode off.
Salia sat at the doorway for the longest time. So many things were passing through her mind. How is she going to get food for her children? With Alan gone, she had no way of getting food from the market. More importantly, she wondered:
“How am I going to tell Nini and Tycen, I'm dying?"
She had known for barely two days. Her doctor told her of her disease, called Grindersaw. The 'Victim' would lose a great amount of weight, the skin would turn pale, and certain parts of the body would slowly decompose. Slowly, but painfully.
It had been twenty minutes, and Salia was still sitting in the doorway. It wasn't until Jade decided to head home to her family that Salia stood up.
After Jade left, Nini volunteered to take care of supper. It wasn't too big of a supper, but it was enough to feed them. Afterwards, Salia sent Nini and Tycen to bed, as she tried to do the same.
Two Years and a month passed.
A carriage pulled up with a black horse and a familiar grey stallion pulling it.
Salia saw the grey stallion, and at once, stood up to rush to the door. Then, she stopped, and looked at where her right arm had once been. She wondered if Alan would still love her, even though her right arm had been gone..."Of course he will" she said to herself. She then ran to the door as fast as she could. She swung the door open, expecting a giant bear hug from Alan.
At that moment, two men stepped out of the carriage, one holding a Xethian Flag, the other holding freshly polished boots.
Neither of them was Alan.
As they neared Salia, the taller of the two spoke and said:
"We are sorry Ma'am..." Salia had a confused and worried expression on her face.
“Alan may have not returned from battle, but it is because of your brave husband that the war was won."The shorter one finished for him. They handed the items to her, and at that moment, she slammed the door, and ran to her bedroom.
“Do not open this door, until I say different" Salia told Nini, who was now sixteen. Salia closed the door.
Nini made sure that Tycen didn't try to open the door, although it was hard to do, with the tears in her eyes.
A few minutes later, Syven, Jade, Fauna, and Bianca arrived, bringing gifts for Alan.
Tycen was the first to greet them. After a few seconds, he said:
“Daddy didn't come home."
After a few moments of taking in the bad news, Jade asked,
"Where is mom?"
“She went into her room, but she told us not to go in." Tycen Responded. They could tell he had been crying as well.
Jade then walked to Salias room, where Nini stood guard.
“It’s hard to believe.... My Dad-" She barely made that much out before she crashed into Jades arms. Nini needed the comfort.
“Everything will be fine, but I need to talk to mom. Will you let me do that?" Jade asked while Nini slowly released her grip. "Alone" she added.
Syven led everyone back to the living room, while Jade slowly opened Salias door.
“SYVEN!!!" She screamed. Syven told the kids to stay put, than he rushed up to Jade, huffing and puffing the whole way. Jade sat outside her mother’s door, crying. Syven tried to calm her down, but it was impossible to do.
Syven walked through the door, and there Salia was,

So, here is that something I was talking about. Enjoy. WARNING: May be depressing.
