A while back, I posted a thread about a channel on TV I used to watch that for some reason went off the air. After finally finding out the name of said channel, being "Colours TV", which hosted a Funimation block for some time, I also found out the name of one of the shows I always tuned into...
The anime is called "Kodocha".
Now, Kodocha, or its full name, Kodocha no Omocha, was a series that aired out back in the 90s. It's got 10 volumes of manga chapters, an OVA, and following that, a 102 episodic anime, as well as being involved with an manga one-shot story called Deep Clear.
Now, this is one of the series I grew up with; It's shojo, and its a drama / romantic comedy. It's about a girl named Sana Kurata and a boy named Akito Hayama. One's a child actor, the other a angsty dude who knows karate, and despite their differences, the two manage to build a friendship with each other, and later on....well, you'll have to see for yourself....that's the basic gist.
It's really a great series. The manga even won an award, and the anime was nominated for one. However, uh, I've noticed that while the series is great, there's a few problems with it....well, at least if you live in the states, like me. http://kh13.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/default/sleep.png
First off: the manga is out of print. Tokyopop managed to get all the volumes translated, however, in 2006, they just straight up dropped it. Now, I don't know about you, but personally, I think a revival is in order. Why? Well, actually, it's more to do with what I have to say about the anime...
As for the anime: it's also out of print. http://kh13.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/default/sleep.png Funimation dubbed Seasons 1 and 2, played them on their home channel AND, like I said, Colours TV, and then...nothing. Seasons 3 and 4, the last 51 episodes of the show, have not reached a green light for dubbing or distribution...a'int that a bitch?
No one knows why this is so. Funi. just decided not to continue the series for some reason....and uh, as I've read, that hasn't been ignored by the fans...
If you go to these links right here, you'll find some petitions made by fans to have Funimation finish Kodocha's dub:
Not only should Funimation do S3/S4...but they should also redo S1/S2, just to keep consistency, you know, 2012 standards and all.
I also think a remastered box set collection can be in order...do I hear fanservice? Not only that, but also because back in the day, when Funi. released DVDs for this series, they were a little...uh...meh, with it. They 4Kids-ed some of the script, they had licensing issues with the guys that did the opening theme...it was a bit of a mess...I think we can find some middle ground at this point, if they were to give it another go.
So, that, and one more go with the manga, just for more hype, and I think we'll be fine.
So, whether or not you're a fan of Kodocha or not, tell me your thoughts. And if you can, go sign one of those petitions. They need all the help they can, people.
I've made a recent discovery...
