One time this pretty girl with a great personality that I'd been crushing on for months asked if I wanted to go swimming, just her and I on Saturday. I freaked out from nerves and after five seconds of awkward silence said "It's winter here, far too cold so I can't!". Later that day at home that was the closest I've ever gotten to punching myself in the face.*sigh* I suck...

No. That is assuming the trauma wasn't so bad it's a repressed memory.

Yeah, as a young lad, Rob blew many golden opportunities......until he found out about being a BOSS! His life changed greatly afterward.

Kinda reminds me of a similar situation I had. I, too, met a girl with a wonderful personality and good looks (to me), and she was the one who ended up asking me out first. I totally messed it all up as during the whole relationship with her I was afraid of saying even one thing wrong, so whenever we were with each other I got nervous and never spoke more than a sentence the entire time.

 

But you live and learn, and life moves on. I don't feel the slightest upset about it now, in fact.

You'll be fine, the one thing you did do a bit wrong was say that swimming would be too cold. Never say anything that may be seen as a bit wimpy to a girl. Alternatively, Never ever ever ever do anything stupid or something you don't want to do to try and impress her (but that's a different story). In the future, if you don't exactly want to do the activity a girl wants to do with you, tell her you are busy or suggest to do something else.
