~Chapter One~
Narissawas walking through the crowded market square. She pushed her jet black hair behind her ear as she hung tight to the basket in her arms. Where is it? she thought. She stopped dead in her tracks and got up on her tiptoes so she could see over the people's heads. After looking for a minute, she spotted the place she wanted to go to. She gripped the basket as she ran in the direction of the shop with people yelling "Watch it!" and " Don't run!",but she ignored them.
She ran up to the counter and slammed her hands on it, almost giving the seller a heart attack. He whipped around and looked at her, examined her, before he said "How may I help you miss?" "Um..." Narissa said. She saved up so much money to buy something for her mother for her birthday and she couldn't even think. She scanned over the necklaces, the bracelets, the rings, when she spotted the perfect thing. Narissa's eyes widened at the sight of a bracelet. It was a golden chain holding different birthstones all around it. Narissa smiled and pointed to that bracelet. "That one. It is perfect," she said still smiling.
"Ah, so many have wanted this one, but they could not afford it. I hope you can," The seller said, grabbing the bracelet and putting it into a small bag. He looked at the price and said " It will be about.. 2,000 embles," he said. 2,000 embles for that bracelet? Wow. I do hope I have enough. Narissa thought. She dumped out her money bag and counted. It took her a while before she counted 2,000 embles and scooted them across the counter to the seller.
"Well, you do have enough," He said picking up every single emble and putting them into his money bag. He gave her the bag that contained the bracelet. She smiled and ran off through the busy market square. She was so excited that she could barely be still. She ran past the concrete buildings that were new, but looked like they were old and crumbling. Her hiking like black boots made her run slower than she usually did. She turned the corner six blocks away from the market square, and she ran down 5 houses and unlatched her gate lock and slammed it shut behind her, but the gate bounced off and swung open a little bit.
This is going to be great! She thought I am going to make this the best birthday she will have! It will be a wonderful last birthday!
