~Chapter One~

Narissa was walking through the crowded market square. She pushed her jet black hair behind her ear as she hung tight to the basket in her arms. Where is it? she thought. She stopped dead in her tracks and got up on her tiptoes so she could see over the people's heads. After looking for a minute, she spotted the place she wanted to go to. She gripped the basket as she ran in the direction of the shop with people yelling "Watch it!" and " Don't run!",but she ignored them.

She ran up to the counter and slammed her hands on it, almost giving the seller a heart attack.  He whipped around and looked at her, examined her, before he said "How may I help you miss?"
"Um..." Narissa said. She saved up so much money to buy something for her mother for her birthday and she couldn't even think. She scanned over the necklaces, the bracelets, the rings, when she spotted the perfect thing. Narissa's eyes widened at the sight of a bracelet. It was a golden chain holding different birthstones all around it. Narissa smiled and pointed to that bracelet. "That one. It is perfect," she said still smiling.

"Ah, so many have wanted this one, but they could not afford it. I hope you can," The seller said, grabbing the bracelet and putting it into a small bag. He looked at the price and said " It will be about.. 2,000 embles," he said. 2,000 embles for that bracelet? Wow. I do hope I have enough. Narissa thought. She dumped out her money bag and counted. It took her a while before she counted 2,000 embles and scooted them across the counter to the seller.

"Well, you do have enough," He said picking up every single emble and putting them into his money bag. He gave her the  bag that contained the bracelet. She smiled and ran off through the busy market square. She was so excited that she could barely be still. She ran past the concrete buildings that were new, but looked like they were old and crumbling. Her hiking like black boots made her run slower than she usually did. She turned the corner six blocks away from the market square, and she ran down 5 houses and unlatched her gate lock and slammed it shut behind her, but the gate bounced off and swung open a little bit.

This is going to be great! She thought I am going to make this the best birthday she will have! It will be a wonderful last birthday!

~Chapter Two~

Narissa rushed into her house when she was stopped. "Narissa, dear, come here for a second," a voice behind her said. Narissa knew it was her mother's voice. Can't let her see the bracelet. she thought as she grabbed the bracelet and stuffed it in her pocket. She turned to her mother, laying in a bed in the living room reading a book. "Hi, mom. What are ya reading?" Narissa said walking towards her mother. "Oh, the same thing as yesterday. The Legend of Assence." Narissa's mother said. Narissa's mother looked up from her book. "You did remember the tomatoes right?" Her mother asked. "Of course I did. Now I got to go put them away. See ya!" Narissa said turning around and scrambling towards the kitchen.

She put the basket on the counter of the kitchen. She cautiously looked around and then pulled out the bracelet and examined it. She whispered the name of the birthstones as she pointed to them " Garnet, Amethyst, Aquamarine..." Just then, she heard footsteps then a cold hand on her shoulder. Narissa froze as a voice said "What do you got there, Nari?"

Narissa turned her head and saw her father, Hex Yinaro, Looking at the bracelet. "Uh, it's mom's birthday present from me," she said putting the bracelet back in its bag. "Ah, it is beautiful. I'm sure she will love it." Hex said. Narissa smiled and nodded. She went upstairs into her room and closed the door. She jumped up in the air and landed on her bed. Gentle tears came to her eyes as she thought to herself. She thought about how ill her mother was. How tomorrow was her last birthday she was going to have. How life would be after her mother passed.

Narissa shook her head and forgot those thoughts. She lay there for a long time, until her father called her down for dinner. Narissa took a deep breath. Tomorrow was going to be a special day. Nothing was going to ruin it.

~Chapter Three~

"Mom! Open mine first!" Narissa said as she shoved a small box towards her mother, who was laying upright  in her bed. "Oh alright, Narissa," Her mother said as she took the little box from her. her mother shook it to listen to what sound it made, to try to determine what was inside the small box wrapped in blue. Her mother tore up the wrapping paper and opened the box. The moment it caught her eye she gasped. Narissa smiled, she was sure her mother was amazed. "Narissa, how did you?" he rmother said, partially speechless. "I saved up,"Narissa said.

Her mother smiled and stretched out her arms as Narissa fell into them. Her mother whispered "Thank you, it's beautiful." in Narissa's ear and then Narissa got out of her mother's arms as her mother put on the bracelet. She opened up Hex's gift and then she went to sleep. Narissa and her father were sittign at the kitchen table when he said, "You do know she really appreciates that present. She has neevr gotten anything like it in her life."

Narissa looked down, suddenly saddened. She nodded and looked at the time. She had to go to bed. Narissa rose from her seat but didn't go anywhere. "Dad, what's going to happen to us when mom passes away?" She asked. It caught her father's attention. He shook his head and said,"Let's not think about that. Go on to bed. Goodnight Narissa."

Narissa went upstairs to her room. She flung herself onto her bed. She just lay there until she went to sleep.

Narissa woke up to the sound of her father's voice saying "Narissa!" By the tone of his voice, it had to be bad news. She instantly became scared, unsure if she should just lay there or go. After a couple of minutes, she got up and went down stairs. Her father was sitting by her mother's bed. Narissa's eyes got wide. She looked at her father as he nodded. She tried her best not to cry. This was it, this is the night she has feared for so long. Now, it was happening. She slowly walked to her mother's side and knelt down. Her mother looked at her, her eyes barely open. Narissa gulped ans her mother said "Narissa, I appreciate everything you have done ever since I got sick. You need to stay strong. Here I want you to have this."

Her mother handed her the bracelet Narissa had given to her. Narissa took it and stared at it as her mother continued, "It will keep you safe from harm,Narissa." Narissa did her best not to cry. It was very hard for her to. Her mother smiled then her eyes closed. Narissa's eyes widened as she watched he rmother take her last breath. She is gone. She is really gone.  She thought. Narissa looked down at the bracelet. Why did she want me to have this? Narissa got up and looked at her lifeless mother then turned around. "Narissa.." Her father said, coming up behind her to hug her. Narissa shook her head. "I'm..I'm just going to go back to bed." Narissa said as she ran up the stairs to her bedroom. She flopped down on her bed she lay there, tears pouring out of her eyes as she cried herself to sleep.

~Chapter Four~

Narissa woke up clinging onto the bracelet. Ugh! I have to go to town!  she thought as she got up. She got dressed and went downstairs. Narissa felt emotionless. Her father looked at her from his eat at the kitchen table he opened his mouth about to say something when she shook her head and said "I am going to town. I'll be back." She walked out the door without another word. Her dad sat there, speechless. Narissa walked down to the market square when she saw police. She looked down at the bracelet.

She walked into the market square and looked over at where the police were. Her eyes widened when she found that it was the place she bought the necklace from. She heard a policeman say "The Etheron bracelet was sold. The one with all the birthstones on a golden chain. We need to find it." Narissa's eyes got wider. The Etheron bracelet. The one she was wearing. She was frozen when a policeman pointed at her and said "She has it!" Narissa didn't move. She was to scared to do anything. Just then, someone grabbed her and pulled her away as the policemen began to shoot. They stopped in an alleyway. She looked up to find green eyes staring at her.  It was a man. About her age wearing a black jacket, a black tee shirt, black pants, and black shoes. "You hold the Etheron bracelet! We cannot let them have it. We have to return it to it's rightful place!"

Narissa was still frozen. He stood straight before grabbing her wrist and running again. This time they were heading towards the woods. They jumped the fence and ran, ran fast, very fast, so fast everything was a blur before they stopped. "I think we lost them," He said. "Who are you?" Narissa asked, pulling her wrist out of his grip. "My name? My name is Miso." He said.

"Nice to meet you Miso," Narissa said, "My name is Narissa"

"So, the Etheron bracelet is the bracelet of Assence?" Narissa said, after Miso got done explaining. "Yes," He said, looking straight forward. Narissa looked down. Miso stopped, he looked up at the dark sky. "We need to make camp," he said. Narissa instantly sat down. Miso got out some matches and gathered some twigs and stick. Then, he made a fire. Narissa's eyelids grew heavy. She layed down and went to sleep. Maybe this is all a dream. Maybe I don't hold the Etheron braclet. Maybe I am just dreaming. She thought.

~Chapter Five~

Narissa was still asleep when Miso woke up. He looked over at her. She was sound asleep. The early morning sunshine blinded him. It's best if I go get food.  He thought. He got up, turned around at one last look at Narissa, and went off. He grabbed his crossbow. After a couple of minutes of walking he spotted a deer. He aimed and shot it right in the neck. Just then, he heard a scream. A girl's scream. Narissa's scream. His eyes widened as he shouted "Narissa!" and ran back to the camp.

Meanwhile, Narissa woke up and Miso was gone. Where did he go?  she thought. She sat up when she heard twigs snapping. She stood and turned around. "Hey Mis..." she began but when she saw that it wasn't Miso she froze. "Well , well. It's the on who has the Etheron bracelet." a man said. The man had white hair and was mostly bald. he wore a black uniform. He crept towards Narissa, examining her wrist. He squinted as if looking through her. "She doesn't have it. Be rid of her!" the man said. "Wha.." she began just then the man's archer pulled out his bow and arrow and aimed for her. She looked at it then began to run,but it was to late. He already shot her in her stomach. Her eyes widened when she realized what happened. She let out a horrifying scream that could send chills down someone's back.

A couple minutes later Miso came running up the path. Narissa tried to stand, she lifted up her head, swayed for a couple seconds and began to fall to the ground. Miso ran and caught her.  He took the arrow out slowly as she winced from the pain. He picked her up. "We need to get far from here," he said.  She just closed her eyes. This was not happening. It just wasn't. He carried her down the path. Dark, gray clouds flooded the sky and it became dark. I have failed many other times he thought. I cannot fail this time.

~Chapter Six~

Miso carried Narissa for minutes, soon an hour. He kept checking on her. All she ever did was look at the ground. He wondered if she was dead, but he could feel her breathing still. Why isn't she dead yet? What's keeping her alive? He thought to himself. After more countless minutes, he heard a weak, shaky voice say "I..I think I can walk on my own now,"

He looked down to find Narissa looking at him.  He shook his head, but she pleaded "Please, you've been carrying me for so long."

He sigh and set her down. He helped her by keeping one of her arms over his shoulder.  She walked, more like stumbled. She was held up, thanks to Miso. "M...Miso. What's going to happen now?" Narissa asked. Miso shook his head and didn't answer. He knew what was going to happen. Narissa was getting weaker by the second. Thoughts, more like memories, went through Miso's head. Why did he keep failing? What was he doing wrong? Just then, Narissa collapsed . Miso hung onto her. He shook his head as her eyelids grew heavy. He quickly got the Etheron bracelet that he took off of her wrist when she was sleeping. Now, he regret making that decision.

"This bracelet has intense power. When worn by the dead, it wil take their soul to its rightful place. Rest on, Narissa." He said as he put the bracelet on her. She smiled weakly before her eyes closed and her body went limp. He stood, leaving her body there. He walked, and walked, and walked until a bright light flashed behind him. He turned around the see Narissa standing, she was alive! He ran to her. But,how?  he thought. He smiled and he knew. To stay on this planet is her soul's rightful place.

"Huh?" She said confused, "I am suppose to be dead! What happened?" She looked up at Miso, waiting for an answer. "The bracelet." he said.  She stood straight. "Well, we must be on our way then!"

He smiled. This time, I won't fail. Her soul was sent back here. This quest will be finished!  he thought.

~Chapter Seven~

Narissa and Miso walked in the hot sun. Only trees shaded them from the sun's heat rays. Narissa had a smile on her face, she didn't know why she was in such a happy mood. Her shoulder length hair swayed from side to side with each small step she took. Miso walked with his head down, all depressed looking. Narissa stopped in her track and looked back. "Why so depressed Miso?" she asked as he lifted up his head and looked at her. He just shrugged,"Why so happy? Incase you forgot, you almost died."

She squinted, annoyed. "I know," she said," but it was a miracle I survived. At least be joyful!". He still had that depressing frown on his face. She walked over to him,put her fingers ont he corners of his mouth and moved them up to make it look like he was smiling. "See!" she said as he pushed her hands down, and he went back to frowning. She sigh "You need to brighten up." she swung back around and walked. Sonn, he followed only a couple steps behind her.

After countless minutes of walking, Narissa stopped at the top of a hill. Her eyes grew wide with amazmeant. Miso rushed to the top to see what was happening. His eyes widended like Narissa's. They were looking over a beautiful meadow filled with different color flowers. "Woah," she said, after sayign the words her mouth stayed hung open. Even though it was pretty, Miso still frowned. Narissa didn't take time to take it all in before she was running down the hill towards the meadow. Narissa giggled as she dived into the flowers. Miso shook his head as he smirked and slowly walked down the hill. Narissa was laying down, surrounded by the multpile colors of the flowers. She took a deep breath, bringing in the scent of the flowers.

Narissa sat up to find Miso standing over her. She quickly stood before him.  Miso sighed,"why do you take interest in these?". Narissa looked down and said,"My mother loved flowers". Miso's eyes grew, but they went back to their normal size. Narissa felt a small tear coming. She tried her best to hold it back. She looked up at Miso, who was looking at her. Miso loked behind Narissa before he shouted,"Watch out!" and he grabbed her and dived into the flowers as an arrow went zooming past where they were once standing. He let go of Narissa as they both sat up. Narissa was shocked. Miso stood up and looked to the directiont he arrow came from. He saw soemone walking across the meadow. Narissa looked and she instantly recongized him. It was him, the one who tried to kill her. Narissa started to get up but Miso said "Narissa stay," and she plopped back down and hid herself among the flowers.

"What do you want?" Miso shouted to the bowsman. The bowsman smirked. "I want nothing, just the Etheron bracelet. If you just hand it over, no one will get hurt." Miso squinted, it was noticable that he did not trust this individual. "I will never give it to you!" Miso shouted, reaching for somehting in his back pocket. The bowsman grinned as he loaded another arrow and aimed for Miso. He shot the arrow and just as quickly Miso unsheathed a throwing knife and threw it at the arrow, splitting it in half in midair. Narissa gasped. How is that even possible? she thought as she watched the broken arrow fall to the ground. "So," the bowsman said, "we will have to fight to the death over the bracelet. Fine by me."
