Microsoft Confirms Next-Gen Xbox Announcement

One more day!

Also, looks like we have details on the conference

There is a lot to be excited about this week as Microsoft plans to unveil their next-generation Xbox in Seattle, Washington on May 21. Aside from the Next Xbox reveal, we do know that Activision will show the first game footage of “Call of Duty: Ghosts” during the event – presumably for the Next Xbox, Xbox 720, Durango, or whatever you may refer to it as.

Unlike Sony’s PS4 reveal, which took 2-hours, Microsoft’s ‘A New Generation’ conference will be half of Sony’s PS4 unveiling and take 1-hour. During the conference, Microsoft will share their vision for Xbox and give a taste of the future.

Likewise, Microsoft will also have additional software reveals to come at E3 2013 where they will showcase the system’s full lineup of blockbuster games.

With one confirmed game showing in the form of “Call of Duty: Ghosts,” it should be interesting to see what else Microsoft has to show during the hour long event, and what they have saved for E3 2013.

And there may be a Fifa game revealed there? hinted at by this tweet

Today is the big day and not surprisingly, some new news is available.

First, the reveal will take place in two parts.

According to Microsoft executive Aaron Greenberg stated on the Major Nelson podcast, the Xbox reveal will take place in two parts. The first, taking place tomorrow, will highlight the console itself. The second will happen at E3 and focus primarily on the games that will be coming to the new console.

As CVG transcribed, he said, “The best way I can describe it is, we’re really gong to tell one story across two events. So we’re going to start on the 21st [of May] and really that’s about revealing the next Xbox platform and our vision for the future of games, the future of entertainment.”

Greenberg promised a “behind the scenes” look into the development of the new console, but couldn’t guarantee any games to be shown. However, he added that the E3 presentation will involve “tons of exclusives.”

A new trademark and the possible name

There’s been a great deal of leaks surrounding the next Xbox with names surfacing such as Xbox 8, Xbox Infinity, just Xbox, but the latest was said to be “Xbox Now” as slipped out by an employee of RARE on social networking sites.

Many media and gaming websites have jumped on the Xbox-conga and rumoured the console name as another addition to the family before Microsoft FINALLY announces the new Xbox at tonights unveiling (6pm BST Time) via Xbox.com and console streaming apps.

A quick trademark search has shown that in the UK, Microsoft trademarked the “Xbox Now” terms last October and it relates to Audio and Video broadcasting services over the internet. With the trademark being registered in the UK, and RARE (who leaked the name) developing in the UK, perhaps this is something they’re working for next-gen…

…but the trademark does not relate to hardware or even software?
