What if Earthbound 64 had come out?(Mother 3 for the N64)

Posted

I mean, Mother 3 for GBA was pretty much, entirely different than how it was originally going to be for the most part. Instead of PSI, you were going to use "Magic"(It said that in Japanese in the EB64 demo at Spaceworld 1999, or 2000, i forget) and didn't have to use PP, you would channel the Magic from your surroundings.

However, the more you use it, the harder it would get to control, and you could end up overwhelming yourself(Which i think means you could possibly have your character faint). But in the final version, you would have PP meters and use PSI instead of Magic.

Also, the graphics were supposed to be on Par with OOT at the time, and when you would encounter an enemy, you could tackle them and have an advantage in battle. While in Mother 3, it has the Pixel animation that Mother 2/Earthbound had, and you could back attack enemies.

Also in the N64 version, it was supposed to take place in the same world as Earthbound/Mother 2, but take place 10 years or 200 years(The facts for this part aren't clear, but most sources says it would either take place in 200X or 200 years after Earthbound). While in Mother 3, its implied that you either take place in the WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY Future of Earthbound, or you're in an entire different Dimension or Timeline from Mother 2.

Also, Mother 3 in its N64 stages was going to be alot more darker than it turned out to be in the final version for GBA.

Itoi was depressed at the time of making Earthbound 64, and so he pretty much, for the lack of better words, Torture the characters you played as.

Also, it was said that the final battle in the N64 version was going to be MUCH MUCH Darker, and have no dialogue to indicate what is happening between you and the Final Boss(Not going to spoil who it is, you can spoil yourself when i post a video in a minute). However, due to Unused Boss Battles found in Mother 3's Data kinda suggest that in the N64 version, you would fight these series of bosses in the Final Battle:

SPOILERS, DO NOT WATCH IF YOU DO NOT WANT MOTHER 3 SPOILED FOR YOU:

Yeah, that's really creepy for a NINTENDO GAME. Even creepier than Mother 2's Giygas.

Not to mention, Itoi said  the ending would make you hate the game, because of how Screwed up and Unimaginable it was. (Don't read what im about to post unless you want to spoil yourself or have already found out what happens in Mother 3)

When the GBA version of Mother 3 Ended, you walk in the dark, but hear from the characters that they are all fine and well, it raises the question that maybe they're could be all dead and in the Afterlife.

Well Most people think in the N64 version, When Lucas pulls the final needle, and the Islands are destroyed, that it kills EVERY SINGLE LIVING THING THAT IS ON THE EARTH. The Earth would be Reborn, just like the Magypsies said, but EVERYONE IS DEAD AND NO ONE COULD EVER WALK THE EARTH FOR THE REST OF ETERNITY. In other words:

Your Journey WAS IN VAIN BECAUSE YOU KILLED EVERYONE IN THE WORLD INCLUDING YOURSELF.

And the worst part, MOTHER 3 IS A FIRETRUCKING NINTENDO GAME. Could you imagine how many people would react to a Nintendo game having SUCH TRAGEDY AND SUCH A SCREWED UP ENDING? And that was back when NINTENDO WAS ENTIRELY FAMILY FRIENDLY. A nintendo game has as much Tragedy as possibly a Final Fantasy game.

I would've loved to see the darker version of EB64(And maybe get a 3DS remake like OOT) but alas, its a possibility that will never be, because Itoi and his crew gave up working with 3D graphics since it was too confusing for them. That's why they remade it later for GBA.

So whaddaya think? Do you think the Lighthearted GBA version was better, or would you have preferred the darker version, like me?

I like the GBA version better. It's the same way I feel about pokemon where I much prefer the sprites over 3D models. The story works and the graphics worst even without them being 3D so I prefer it over something that may not have turned out as well.

I understand your opinion. I would've prefered if it had the 2D Sprites with the dark story of the N64, but the GBA probably didn't have enough Space to have 12 chapters like it would've in the N64 which is why the GBA version only got 8.

But, if they had remade with better graphics like they did with OOT later on for 3DS, maybe it would've looked better. Then again, some of the 3D Models in EB64 looked bad(Like Boney, oh god don't get me started) while in OOT, it had 3D Models that looked actually decent when it first came out.

im still sad of how underrated the mother series is underratedlike, poor claus;^;

but yeah, i kind of imagined what would have happened if it did get released on n64...

I watched a few trailers for N64 version, and honestly I like the overall look of it better than the GBA version
