A question about what's reportable.

Posted

I've noticed that certain words are censored if typed out in a post on this cite, but many people just post them in other forms. So I've been wondering are we supposed to report someone if they use these offensive words in gifs, memes, videos, etc? Personally, I don't appreciate it when people swear, and I believe that these banned words shouldn't be allowed in any form, but I wan't to make sure that these actions aren't allowed on here before I started reporting them.

If you ever feel like something should be reported, report it.  Even if you're not sure, do it anyway.  It's not going to hurt anyone and it only takes a second.  Usually we end up handling these things on a case by case scenario anyway, but we can't do anything if we don't see it.

Perosnally, I don't think people should be reported for using foul language, as long as they're not using it to be offensive and berate someone.

However, as a mod, if someone was reported for using said language, I would still talk to the person doing the offending action, and ask them to tone it down. Since not everyone here is a-okay with foul words, I guess that reporting people who use it is alright, depending on the circumstance.

(Of course, in the RP section, the use of foul words varies from topic to topic, and usually disputes can be settled by the topic's owner.)

I don't see anything wrong with random swearing.

"I.e., "This shit f-cking sucks."

But I think to avoid arguments/flame wars/fights that swears DIRECTED to people should not be allowed.

For example, "F-ck you."

But that's just me. Everyone is raised differently in all different places. I like to look at it as, people shouldn't fear words, because that just gives them more power.

If it's used in an offensive form then yes!

However if it's someone saying something like f*ck as a reaction to something or what the firetruck then I think that's alright.

It won't hurt anything to report it though.
