The PS3 may have passed the Xbox360 in worldwide sales

Posted

According to VGChartz' estimates, PS3 is now ahead of 360 in worldwide sales. This is supported further by shipment numbers from MS and Sony, which show PS3 ahead of 360 (using estimated PS3 numbers, since Sony combine PS2 and PS3).

Platform  I Total
PS3         I 77,313,472
X360        I 77,311,669
Wii           I 99,574,394

This means PS3 is now in 2nd place of current generation consoles. An eventual 1st place isn't out of the question.

As it should be.

most of those sales are from when the console first launched... everyone was thinking that motion gaming was the future.

It's probably because of two reasons, it being a Nintendo console and every casual gamer has one because they were all the rage a few years back.

Anyone I know who owns a Wii has either the PS3 or 360 (or both) as well.

The casuals man, The casuals.

PS3 surpassed the 360 awhile ago, however Americans keep buying 360s.

The Wii only sold more so so far because it's cheaper, Mario Kart and Smash Brothers. Plus in the U.S you can still get backwards compatibility with the Nintendo GameCube.
