Theory: Colress Invented Pokemon-Amie and Mega Evolution

Think about it, Colress' goal was to "Bring out the full potential of Pokemon" Through his battles with Nate/Rosa he found that the best way to do that was to "Enhance the bond between Trainers and Pokemon" Pokemon-Amie enhances the bond between Pokemon and Trainer.

Mega Evolution brings out a Pokemons full potential.

 

And they implied in todays Pokemon Direct that the Friendliness of a Pokemon plays a role in Mega Evolution. It all makes sense.
