As I have said here previously, I am slowly but gradually trying to create a graphic novel. After doing some research, I have bought three micron pens, as they are apparently ideal for inking, and after some testing, they seem to work well. However, I know that this is not the only equipment that I need to make my goal come closer to becoming a reality, so does anyone here know what other equipment I need? Is there a special sort of paper that I need to use to make my graphic novel?

Any help would be appreciated.

yes and no.

If you plan to tone your piece manually you need markers or you use ink.

as for the paper this is optional. there are manuscripts you can buy; however, there are different types such as A-4 B-4 C-I and several others this all depends on your tastes and preference. some sizes are larger or thicker than others.

you will most likely need a ruler, suggest a metal one with a cork underlay. and a really nice pencil suggest for this would be a graphing .05 lead, and an eraser pen.

Also I highly suggest reference or concept art for inspiration, set a goal and find an author you look up to and not only take in one person's work but many others.

Thank you. Would those be available at a high-maintenance art supply shop?

I have studied the art of Dave Sim and Jeff Smith in order to find a drawing style that suits me. I have decided to use large panels for the pages.

Edit: What do you mean by "yes and no"?

well yes and no means most of what I said is optional.

eh, maybe. I buy mine online, I am not sure where to get them in stores.

Also make sure you do not copy an art style, but heh you probably already know that.

I have tried hard to make my creations seem unique. Using realistic anthropomorphic animals that wear buttoned shirts as a part of my plans has already been done, but I will try to make it seem unique.

that is good. I am too working on a comic mine is more manga based; however I already have most of the stories mapped out.

The design of mine is slightly Manga-based. I am trying to make my planned series be at least two thousand pages long in total; if my ideas do come to fruition, that is.

well if it helps start with a doujinshi or maybe even go to lulu and self-publish yourself for a while

I have yet to learn what "doujinshi" means, unfortunately. As I said, some designs that I have planned are only slightly Manga-based. They do not resemble Manga at all at a glance.

Self-publishing would be nice (once I am older, that is), but the fact that I will need to have a large office and some sort of high-maintenance printer sounds difficult... Unless that is not what "self-publishing" means, of course.

Doujinshi is a fan work involving your characters or someone else's. it is usually a fan work.

no I mean publishing through Lulu.com

I do not understand... What makes it a "fan" work if I am the creator of my characters?

Thank you for suggesting that website to me. I will keep it in mind.

well some doujinshi were sent in to mangaka and published with their help thus it would still fall under fan work, if it is done entirely by you and published by you then it is not a fan work.

Understood, but then, does that mean that if I published anything with "Lulu.com", it would still qualify as "fan work"?

I do not think so for you'd be self-publishing.

Edit: Never mind. Thank you so much for your time.
