when you want to knock on Death's door

[a 1x1 with Josh wilson]

Characters:

Name: Lily Collins

Age: 15

Gender: Female

Weapon or Meister: Meister

Appearance: She is 5'6, with slightly wavy blonde hair that is usually pulled back into a ponytail. She wears brightly colored sneakers, a pair of black leggings and a pink sweater.

Bio: Lily's future was decided before she was even born. Her mother and father were both meisters, and of course, their daughter was expected to follow in their footsteps. Lily spent her life at the DWMA, and that wasn't likely to change anytime soon. Thankfully, she enjoyed being a meister. But after years of work, Lily still hadn't made a Death Scythe, and pressure from her parents was increasing.

If it didn't work out? Well, at least Jonathan had something to fall back on. For Lily, it was all or nothing. It wasn't even the constant parental pressure that drove her cravings for success--it was an internal drive, too. Lily didn't have the option of failure, or of quitting, though to her they were one in the same. She couldn't decide if she envied or pitied Jonathan.

It was a long, quiet walk, but they finally reached Lily's apartment. She quickly unlocked it and let Jonathan in. "Make yourself at home, I guess."

"Alright." He said. He took off his dumb looking backpack, and laid on the couch "You are one of those types that study hard, right? I usually use my actions on the battlefield talk, and I'd hate to not pass a test."

"Yeah, I guess so." It's because mom and dad would skin me alive if I didn't bring home spectacular test scores, Lily thought. "I get good enough scores." She rummaged through the kitchen to find some supplies. She had bread, right? Please let there be some damn bread in the apartment. "Hey, you know, if you really wanted to prove that you're good at something, maybe you should get off your butt and help me make us some lunch. I'm so not doing this all by myself."

"Alright!" He got up, looking for the dishes and cups. "Man, this is how you treat guests in your house? No wonder your friends don't want to associate themselves with you..." He stopped "then again, look who's talking, right?"

Lily rolled her eyes. "Well, I'm not much of a chef, and if I'm going to share my food with you, then you'd better help me make it. It's a fair trade, I think." That probably wasn't why Lily didn't have friends anyway. Her overprotective, omnipresent parents were probably what scared away all of Lily's potential friends. Actually, Lily was mildly surprised that they hadn't discovered the name of her new partner and investigated him yet. She wouldn't put it past them--they were pretty nuts.

Jonathan set up the plates. "So, where we gonna scout? I mean, the missions a battle royale. Not much to scout, if there are multiple enemies. Once there gone, that is it." He looked at the mission "plus it's vague, don't you think?"

Lily shrugged. "It's never good to go into anything unprepared. Even if there's no real point in scoping out the battlefield, we can at least watch our opponents fight. We'll get a feel for their moves and tactics. We'll have a chance to observe how they work together." Even Lily could recognize how boring her description sounded. If she were Jonathan, she wouldn't be too excited after her less-than-moving speech. "But, even if it's kind of boring, it's an essential part of combat. We've got to do really well on our first mission."

"Great. So you think those monsters will work like that...." He took a sandwich, and took a bite. "Alright," he took a swing of milk "where we scouting? Block wise?"

"We're scouting the area where the monsters are. I'm sure there's an exact location on the mission flyer." Lily scanned over the torn mission poster for an address. "Here it is! I think it's down by the industrial warehouses. You know where those are, right? They're actually pretty close to the school, so that's convenient." Lily finished making her peanut butter and jelly sandwich. She carefully ripped off the crust as she spoke. "So, anyway, how long have you been at the DWMA? I don't think I've seen you around before."

" I've been here a year." Jonathan said. "It's just that I arrive late, and no one cares" he slung on his backpack. "Let's go."

Jonathan had been at the DWMA an entire year and Lily hadn't seen him even once? Despite how massive the DWMA really was, Lily had been sure she'd met everyone at least once. It was almost a little shocking to learn she'd entirely missed someone. Who else had she missed? "Yeah," Lily glanced out the window. It was still early afternoon. If they were feeling ambitious enough, maybe they wouldn't even have to wait until nightfall to take on the monsters. Maybe they should just risk it all and fight as soon as they arrived.

"My guess is that the monsters won't come out yet." He became immersed in his hypothesis "My parents used to say that. The night makes them more elusive. Easier to kill lost souls."
