" Be careful."

I turned, smiling at my mother, as she waved at us from the door of our small but sturdy home.

" We will.' I promised, laughing.

" come on, Jack!" Anna called, tugging inpatiently on my sleeve.

We headed out to Proudfoot Pond, the water iced over beautifully, the frost curving in delicate fern~like patterns across the icy surface.

" Jack, watch me!"

Anna did a graceful twirl, hands over her head like a dancer.

I smiled. " wow.. cool, Anna."

I laced up my skates, and took off after her, skating hard and fast on the frozen waters of the usually raging pond, feed by a spring off of the majestic Mulhahey River up on the hill further on.

" Jack, watch me!"

Anna cried, doing a small jump.

It will be easy, Jack" a few horrible, painful moments, but then... o then...

"Jack!"

Anna had stumbled, a crack in the ice widening beneath the sharp edge of her skateblade.

" Jack... I'm scared."

Anna's eye's were wide, her fear making me uneasy...

but she wasn't to be harmed in this: he promised me that.

" it's ok... everything's gonna be fine. Just stay there..."

I looked around for the curved staff, placed on the ice hours earlier to prepare for this.

" It's gonna be fine....."

Hours before, i'd been brooding over my upcoming 20th birthday, watching the snow fall....

entranced by the beautiful whiteness... the soft snow drift... the cold, safe, imortal white..

You can have it, Jack.

" Huh? who....?"

It's not important. Is immortality what you desire... Jack Overland?

" How do you know my name? "

This isn't important, Jack. Answer me.

" I...."

Listen closely, Jack: you can have what you want.

I'll tell you how......

" Everything's gonna be ok.... just one..."

I hooked the crook of the staff around Anna's waist, and jerked her off her feet, swinging her around to sling her to the solid ice near the bank.

She looked up at me, smiling, her eyes alight with love and awe for the big brother who'd just saved her.

I smiled back... knowing this was the last time i'd ever see her.

The ice cracked, and I plummeted, tossing my hands up to fall through the hole into the icy waters below.

" Jack!" Anna cried, leaping to her feet.

Goodbye, Anna... I love you..

Great Job! But did you get Jack from Jack Frost???Just asking.

Chapter 1: Back From the Ice

Darkness....

The water swirled around me, dark and icy...

I wasn't scared: I was alive.... ALIVE....

It had hurt at first: the shock of the icy waters, my breathe becoming labored, water filling my lungs...

My hair swirled in my eyes, and i was surprised to see it was now the icy~white of newly fallen snow.

The moon shone through the ice, and I felt my body being lifted.

The ice broke away, freeing me to the chill of the air, the moon a full, glistening wonder in the dark, star~less skies above.

Are you happy, Jack?

I smiled, gazing at the moon.

Yes... completely

I'd realized I'd spoken to the moon in my mind, and laughed with glee.

Now go, Jack Frost... go free.... Forever.

I was lowered to the ice gently, tenderly....

The ice frosted beneath my feet, and for the first time I noticed my hands: unlined, smooth, and the icy~pale of new~fallen snow.

I glanced up at the moon, twinkling above me like a massive jewel in the sky, and felt a smile cross my lips.

I wandered away over the surface of the pond, everything beautiful and glowing under a layer of frost.

It had been hours... or maybe even days; time meant nothing under the ice.

I wandered away over the surface of the pond, everything beautiful and glowing under a layer of frost.

It had been hours... or maybe even days; time meant nothing under the ice.

The skate tracks from Anna were still etched across the ice, but they were much fainter, the frost filling them in.

The staff lay nearby, covered in a fine powdering of snow.

I picked it up, and it began to glow.

startled, I dropped it, the end clattering to the ice.

Frost formed from the tip, curling delicately across the waters black~ice surface.

In awe, I tapped a tall pine with it, laughing as ice curled gracefully across the rough bark.

Child~like, I ran across the ice, ignoring my 19 years of age in joy, racing up and down the ponds surface, tracing patterns in the ice with frost.

A jump took me into the air, just like the moon had said; a bit shakey, I glided towards the village, icing over trees and bushes in my wake.

I landed next to the house of Ernest Mcall, a bully who used to pick on Anna.

Sliding open his window, i crept in, watching him sleep in his bed.

" Ernest..."

I whispered, jolting him awake.

" wha... h..."

His eyes adjusted to the dark, and he saw me.

" Jack? But... you... you're dead..."

" Not as dead as YOU'RE going to be, Ernest."

It was quick after that, and i left, Ernest dripping on the floor messily, and my clothes stained a pretty red colour.

Everything the moon had promised me.... full~filled.

Chapter Two: Possessed By Night

300 Years Later

Wow... 300 winters. Mind boggling... But I never dwelled on it much: I was alive, alive after all the puny morons I'd dealt with were dead and gone, just dust in the wind.

A silly myth about this " Jack Frost " the moon had called me being a jolly dumbass who frosted over windows got circulated about 1899, so I just shrugged it off, and let the simple people believe it: you don't wanna screw up a good cover story.

It helped when I killed people; the police blamed some petty hood, and I got off scott free.

No one would ever believe Jack Frost was slitting throats in the New York subway, or backalleys of Florida...

No it was just such a dark, menacing sentence there at the end- I've no problems with it but couldn't put that into words xD

No one ever believed those old myths.... So I was free, free to do what I wanted, do what I wanted to WHO I wanted to do it to, and suffer no repercussions for my grisly actions.

After all: Jack Frost just nipped at your nose on cold mornings....

"... i'm too much!" I sang,

coasting on a soft North bound breeze over a small free way, icing over car windows as I flew over them, invisible to the annoyed drivers.

See, the moon told me I couldn't be seen unless I chose too, since humanity had shunned me as I shunned it.

I was fine with that, living out my long, long, LONG life doing whatever i wanted, free and clear from any rules.

And if that meant I spilled a little blood now and then... hey: them's de breaks.

Chapter Three: Nightkiller

The air was frosty, icy blasts bursting pipes and destroying car engines, small animals freezing in snow piles, trees blackened, possibly never to recover.

The snow flew about in dark flurries, tossed like lost fairies from a fairy tale, powerless to the winds demanding power, thrust into fractured dances of destruction at the whim of the ice.

It was a wonderful night to be alive, free...

and ready to party.

See, the moon let me in one little... CATCH... to my immortality:

for life to continue... life must end.

" Still waiting for cookies!" He cried, laughing child~like as he put the last few touches on his ice~sculpture, a perfect working model of the North Pacific railways in minute detail, every piece expertly carved by his own hands.

Two tattoo's decorated his muscular arms: NAUGHTY to the left, NICE to the right, inked so many years ago even HE couldn't remember anymore.

The elves ran about his crowded workshop, and one ran up with a plate of cookies balanced on his head, several with minute teeth marks in them.

North picked up a chocolate star shaped one, and crunched happily, as he finished a wheel on the engine.

There was no way around it: if i wanted to keep up this " Jack Frost" charade.....

I needed to find these " Guardian" things, and join them.

If you can't beat 'em... kill ''em, I always say.
