Prologe: Icy Death

" Be careful."

I turned, smiling at my mother, as she waved at us from the door of our small but sturdy home.

" We will.' I promised, laughing.

" come on, Jack!" Anna called, tugging inpatiently on my sleeve.

We headed out to Proudfoot Pond, the water iced over beautifully, the frost curving in delicate fern~like patterns across the icy surface.

" Jack, watch me!"

Anna did a graceful twirl, hands over her head like a dancer.

I smiled. " wow.. cool, Anna."

I laced up my skates, and took off after her, skating hard and fast on the frozen waters of the usually raging pond, feed by a spring off of the majestic Mulhahey River up on the hill further on.

" Jack, watch me!"

Anna cried, doing a small jump.

It will be easy, Jack" a few horrible, painful moments, but then... o then...

"Jack!"

Anna had stumbled, a crack in the ice widening beneath the sharp edge of her skateblade.

" Jack... I'm scared."

Anna's eye's were wide, her fear making me uneasy...

but she wasn't to be harmed in this: he promised me that.

" it's ok... everything's gonna be fine. Just stay there..."

I looked around for the curved staff, placed on the ice hours earlier to prepare for this.

" It's gonna be fine....."

".... 16 molars, 12 fronts... geez, is that all the same house?" Toothunda flew about like a giant hummingbird, which she closely resembled, shouting orders to the smaller fairies fluttering around everywhere, putting every molar in its own slot in the tooth holders, each one emblazened with a child's face, special memories kept safe from harm for them.

No one noticed the storm clouds building at the edge of the cliffs, dark purple thunder heads lashed through with lightning approaching at a fantastic rate.....
