False Light, Consuming Darkness (Roleplay)

Posted

(Optional Soundtrack)

In a timeline parallel to the one in Kingdom Hearts, the Keyblade War has come to an end. The difference in this timeline is, instead of the darkness taking over and the lights in children’s hearts bringing the worlds back, the light is utterly victorious. The Keyblade Wielders who sought to obtain the X-Blade have been crushed- with those who wield the light believing themselves to be those chosen by Kingdom Hearts.

The world has been broken apart by the terrible war, but the residents of each individual world pay little heed to this detail. They go about their lives, not troubling themselves with matters outside their own worlds now.

This would be fine enough, but those who won the war have become drunk with power. The Keyblade Wielders of light have lost sight of their former selves, becoming tyrants and dictators who despise the dark greatly. Because of this, they stop at nothing to destroy anyone with even the tiniest bit of darkness in their heart; they do this in an effort to prevent a second Keyblade War from ever happening.

This has brought peace, in theory, but the truth of the matter is everyone who bends to the will of those who wield light do so only out of fear. Is this true peace? Should the light be allowed to control the worlds simply because of their former righteousness?

A small group of rebels, some the descendents of those who fought, died, or merely lived during the Keyblade War, have come together for a common cause: to put an end to the light’s tyranny. Situated on a small, forgotten chunk of a former world, the seemingly abandoned mansion in which they reside houses each and every one of them. It is from here they travel to other worlds to bring back true peace, and also here where they go to rest up or merely kick back with one another. This outpost has been given the designation Garland Hub, for one of its members merely named it after the first thing she could see.

Meanwhile, those who fight for the light and protect the X-Blade have made their base in a world called The Land of Departure. It is here where veterans of the Keyblade War and their students reside, acting as a base of sorts and is primarily the light’s equivalent to Garland Hub.

Having come from various different backgrounds, the rebels have trained and honed their skills so that they may begin to make a difference. Those of the light merely learn from their Masters and travel forth to the worlds as enforcers.

Those who wish to remove the light from power, and those who wish to govern with it…just what drives them? And whose resolve will win out in the end and ultimately shape the worlds and their inhabitants? The answer lies within each of their individual decisions…

Okay, so here are the rules I can think of:

[*]No God Modding

[*]You can be multiple characters and even have characters on either side of the conflict

[*]You can be an Apprentice or a Master should you choose Enforcer, but should you choose Rebel, you need to be an Apprentice who may or may not have experience- the rebels have no adult leadership or Masters at the time being.

[*]Romance is allowed, but must be PG-13 at most

[*]Please refrain from too much foul language

[*]You can’t kill someone else’s character unless you both contact me that this is something you both are okay with- I don’t want anyone getting bullied >:S

[*]There are NO Original Kingdom Hearts characters in this timeline- so no Sora, Roxas, Terra, Xehanort, etc. They did not exist before the current timeline occurs either, so they cannot be referenced.

[*]Disney characters exist in their respective worlds, you CANNOT kill them unless you pm me and I approve it. I would probably only approve it if their death is canon, so don’t go trying to slay the 7 Dwarfs xP

I think that’s it, I’ll add to this post if it’s necessary! ^^

How long have I been laying here? A minute? An hour? I have no sense of time here in Garland Hub, as the sky is always dark. The worlds illuminate the sky as stars, but never cease to hang there above us- there is no daytime here anymore. Perhaps this is the side effect of this world being incomplete?

There’s only a small chunk left of this mysterious world, and on it sits the mansion in which we all reside. We’re pretty different, all here for an array of reasons, but we all share a common goal: to overthrow the Enforcers.

They’ve been bullying each of the worlds and their inhabitants, so I say enough is enough. I will fight, to put an end to this false peace, and remove the fear that governs everyone to act like sheep under the Enforcer’s rule.

Sitting up, I throw my legs over the side of the bed and stand up- I’m ready, I’ve been training myself for years and honing the techniques Mom and Dad taught me…I need to start making a difference.

I open the door to my room as quietly as possible, as the others are all sleeping in their own rooms- or at least I assume they are. I don’t want to trouble them, so I’ll go out on my own for this mission: to finally begin making our presence known, and let the Enforcers know they can’t keep getting away with acting like dictators.

Weaving my way through the halls, I make it to the ground floor and head out the front doors. There’s a porch, but beyond that is merely space- the chunk of land this mansion sits atop is only enough to actually hold the mansion; the grounds that once surrounded it have disappeared completely. Maybe this is why the Enforcers don’t know of this place- as it is simply a beaten up, old looking mansion in the middle of space…or maybe they just don’t care.

Whatever the reason is, it’s no concern of mine at the time being. Summoning my Keyblade, I’m about to turn it into a Keyblade Glider when I stop and hesitate- should I really go out to a new world all on my own? I mean it’s not entirely new, Dwarf Woodlands they’re called, I’ve visited there once or twice, but now I plan on going there to actually pick a fight with the Enforcers. Should I really tackle this challenge on my own? I look back at the lobby of the mansion, wondering if I should see if anyone else wants to go…

"Yea..." He smiled, and blushed. His hood fell off, revealing the grey streak in his hair. "Living in peace with friends would be nice." He talked more, unable to suppress himself "No more fear of fallen brethren... No more restless nights by paranoia... None of it."

(Lol, horizon finds Harumi sleeping, and just goes "The hell?")

I see the gray streak in his hair- and my eyes widen for a few seconds, before I regain my composure.

"Ren, that's...are you struggling with the darkness in your heart?"

Edited by LightChaser

He put his hand on his hair. Damn, not like this... He pulled his hood on "It's nothing!" He snapped. He was shocked by his sudden tone change. "I-I don't want you to worry... I've caused enough stress" he showed a look of pity, for himself and her "I don't want you to get any more tense...I...I.."

"Ren- Ren, relax!" I get out, walking up to him, "It's okay, I know you believe in the balance, but individually each person tends to be one or the other."

I need to comfort him, to let him know it's alright- I have to pick the right words. "Ren, most people use either light or darkness, and because of that there's a balance across the worlds. That's why we're fighting the Enforcers, as they only believe in light; but darkness is not a bad thing! ...some people can use both, but whether light or darkness, neither one is good or evil- the people who use them are."

I hope I'm getting through to him that it's okay. "Ren, I abandoned the light and chose to rely on the darkness, but I'm using it to restore the worlds to their former glory, because I've accepted it into my heart. If you- if you fight the darkness in your heart, it will only get stronger, and will eventually swallow you whole; that's why you have to make peace with it, like I did! The more you struggle against it, the more uncontrollable it becomes, but if you accept the darkness- not submit to it, but rather recognize and accept it, then it will become your ally."

I take a breath. "...Darkness isn't evil, and light isn't good- it's the people who use them that are good or evil."

A darkness came over him. How dare she question him!? Did she lack faith in him to balance himself. "NO, YOU DONT UNDERSTAND!" He screamed. He grabbed her shoulders. Whenever he screamed, it was a loud, threatening, and thunderous roar. "I CAN HANDLE THIS! I AM AN EQUILIBRIUM! IF I FAIL, I AM STEPPING ON MY FATHERS WISHES!" He brought he closer, they were a breaths length away. "DONT YOU SEE!? I DONT ONLY JUST DO IT FOR HIM! I DO IT FOR-"

For her.

His eyes regained their natural color. He let go. He staggers back. He was not in control... He let himself go over such trivial things... "I'm sorry..." He tried to run away. "I cant pick a side." He knew that now. He could never pick one. He was not above it... It was that he was afraid of both...

Throughout it all I'm not afraid- I just watch his yellow eyes that reflect my sadness, then watch as they return to normal. He lets go of me and stumbles back; I guess there really isn't anything I can do for him. Mom and Dad explained it, as they faced this all the time throughout the war- I just hadn't fully believed them. But now I do, I understand what it was they were saying to me.

I look down at the ground, talking more to myself than him. "...Ren...no matter what I say, ultimately the choice is up to you- no one else can make it for you..."

...I just hope he makes the right one, whichever it may be.

"Right..." He looked down. He couldn't have these outbursts. He would hurt more people. He would hurt her. "If you want, we can resume-" he couched and almost fell. "This resistance must have side effects..." He muttered to himself. He knew the more he resisted, the harder and more frequent these attacks would be. "I will chose side when I am ready. Don't worry."

I go over to him, holding him up so he won't collapse. "Come on, let's get you back inside- you need to rest," I tell him, leading him back into the tavern.

I've said my piece, the rest is up to him at this point. Darkness or light, neither or both; a choice needs to be made, or else the person in question will be consumed. I made the choice to stick with darkness, but I personally could never tell the difference between the two. That's why I believe they can co-exist: what is light? What is darkness? They're merely things we've put labels on, and neither can exist without the other.

When we get to his room, I use my Keyblade to unlock the door and open it, letting go of him so he can enter.

"Now get some rest, you'll need to be at your best if you're to fight the Enforcers," I tell him, walking down the hall towards the back door, "Sleep well, Ren."

"I got to tell you something..." He said to Light. "Harumi may be an enforcer spy... Her fighting style is militaristic. She may even be a captain..." Ren sat on the bed, then went to lay down. He had almost died twice, yet no true sleep had come to him.

  • Author

I stop in my tracks upon hearing Ren's accusation. Turning around, I go back up the hall and lean against the doorframe to his room.

"You think Harumi's a spy?" I ask in disbelief, crossing my arms, "Because of her fighting style? Ren, I was born on The Land of Departure- I'm more qualified to be a spy than she is based on that."

Edited by LightChaser

"It's...only...speculation..." Ren said, drifting off to sleep "I'm...only...suspicious...because...I...lo..lov..." Sleep finally took hold.

Severa awoke in her bed. She blinked the sleep out of her eyes. The girl felt rested. Seeing as how she felt fine, Severa would feel guilty if she didn't help out now that she was awake. She grabbed her sword, and buckled it into it's usual place on her lower back. Severa stretched, and wandered out of the room. Severa found Harumi, sitting there, all by herself. She plopped down next to the newest member of the group, and smiled. "Hey now, don't look so glum. I'll take over watch for ya if ya want." Severa offered, still grinning. "I mean, if you're too sleepy to get on with the job, then I'll take over." Severa said. She hadn't meant to be condescending, it just sorta, came out. The sarcasm and superiority in her personality had developed after her father had died. It was like a defense mechanism against people she couldn't kill. The only person who really made her relax was Ryonne. She assumed the same was of him. Normally he was quiet, almost to the point of rudeness. He was also honorable and noble to the point that it'd kill him. But around each other, their defenses lowered.

Lyon grinned over at Horizon. A compliment? Sometimes those were a bit hard to come by. "Thanks. You're, uh, great too." Lyon sputtered. She almost laughed at her own idiocy. Horizon was a living legend, but she had no compliments to say to him. Lyon could only hope that Horizon would find her comment more humorous than insulting. The Enforcer continued forward, walking through the dark streets of Port Royal at night. There were drunk men, calling out to her affectionately, but most stopped once they spotted the Captain's badge on her chest.

Seeing Ren fall asleep, I sigh. "Well, thanks for the tip," I say, closing his door, "Sleep well."

Harumi a spy? I don't believe it. We all come from different backgrounds, with unique stories of our own that got us here. I don't even know which room Harumi's in, otherwise I'd go talk to her, but odds are she's sleeping along with everyone else.

Deciding it best not to bother any of them, I head out the back door of the tavern and resume my training; I need more abilities if I'm going to fight the Enforcers.

Harumi blinked and looked at Severa. "No....well...um...I'm fine." She said, resting her head and yawning. "I am tired though...so...if I sleep...don't mind if you take over...yes?" She asked, her inflection prevailing even in near-sleep. Her mind was a hazy mess, barely working with what little sleep she had gotten within the past few days. "So...uh...how'd you get in this little..rag-tag group..?"

~

Horizon chuckled, "I am truly nothing special. There has been captains before me who have been far superior. I thank you for the compliment, though." He said, offering the slightest of smirks (the closest he could muster to a smile) and gave the  wasted men a dark glance. That, along with noticing Lyon's rank, was enough to cause the debauchery to stop. "I will not allow such a drunken din ruin this evening."

Severa laughed at Harumi's difficulty at forming a sensual sentence. "No really, it'd be fine if I took over. No way I'm getting back to sleep anyway." Severa replied easily. "Me? Well, Enforcers came to my home searching for darkness. Killed my father. After that, I took up training with Ryonne. Beforehand, he wanted to be an Enforcer, but after my father died, and the village was caught in the crossfire, he began to change his tune too. When we heard about the group, both of us signed up, and well, now we're here." Severa told her story. The wound of her father's death was still festering, but talking about it was easy enough now.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lyon grinned at Horizon's humility. She did appreciate his company. It'd have been so boring to have dealt with these Rebels on her own. And if the one that had faced Horizon was back at full strength, then she doubted she could face down all of them anyway. She chuckled at his remark about the men all around. "It's fine. To be expected when one is visiting this fine world. And besides, I have a big strong man to protect me right?" Lyon added sarcastically, continually walking towards the nearest inn. The Rebels would most likely be there, seeking shelter after their attack on the stronghold.
Kirito came in through the portal, with a heavy bag. His mother packed it full of stuff she said she needed. Lunches, potions, a sweater, and a note he had yet to open. He smiled, and took a deep breath. He was gonna stop those dark rebels! He was going to save the world!
He saw the two commanders that he was sent to see. "Excuse me lady and sir !" He went into a salute pose. "I am 13th regiment enforcer, Kirito Sugito! I was sent by high command to be third in command under Commander Horizon! Please accept me as one of your assistants!" He was so scared, he was in the presence of greatness.
"Mm." Harumi grunted, the only sign that she had been listening, and not sleeping. She yawned once again. "I'm...from another one of those worlds. I was really young when it was taken over. I don't really remember much of that world. Some kid I really liked...small village...that's about it. When the Enforcers came my family left. Forgot me in all their haste. I was...took one of the Enforcers' weapons -one that had felled in battle- and ran." Harumi said, finishing her story. She didn't mention that she had killed and Enforcer, and then the group found out her power and took her away. Harumi sighed, trembling a little. She never cried. But having to lie to everyone here--to hide the truth, was still painful.
~
Horizon chuckled, "Yes sure...I am your big strong man." He chuckled, his smirk ever so slightly reaching that smile stage. This was much more pleasurable than being alone. Even though they were both Captains, they were clean-up Captains. Instead of usually leading, they were sent in to deal with a mess when others failed. They were the Captains that finished a job.
Horizon turned and glanced at this new person. Assistant? He thought, his brow scrunching in confusion. Why did Command feel it necessary to send in some recruit? Horizon had felt it perfectly fine with it just being Lyon and himself."I see." He said, his face looking down in thought, "Very well then."
Kirito assumed a lax posture. He felt so stupid doing that pose. "Commander Horizon, I heard you had fought these so-called rebels! What were they like? "
"Ahh, what time is it?" Nova yawned as he emerged from the sheets. "I need to get some fresh air." Nova went outside and decided to relax for a bit there were only so many times he could do so. "I guess it's like this all the time here...gloomy and dark, but it's not bad." Nova shivered as the cold air consumed him. He liked the cold but not anything like this.
"Weak." Horizon replied, looking Kirito once over.An obviously young, inexperienced warrior. Horizon continued to question as to why Command decided on sending this youngster to assist him. Had this child broken some rule, and sent here as punishment? Or were they merely spying on Horizon?
The Captain felt both were equally ridiculous, and made a mental note to sleep more often to combat the odd thoughts. "One of them was considerably experienced. Near my own level, or Lyon's. But the others are all weak and foolish."
"Okay..." Not much info, but info enough. He noticed that whilst his power was covered, the others were not. Flaunt it if you got it, he thought. "So, I was thinking..." He looked at his compatriots " why not split up and check the Taverns? Get the obvious places out of the way, you know?"
"We were already heading towards one." Lyon answered Kirito's question. The soldier was clearly a new recruit, but command had to have some reason for ending him here. After all, they were n a delicate situation. If this boy were to get in the way, he'd most likely be killed. "And I wouldn't be so quick to say they're all weak besides the one you faced. After all, we didn't see all of their skills in battle." Lyon said, glancing at Horizon. She knew Horizon was probably right about Ryonne being the only strong one, but they couldn't afford to be assumptous.
~~~~~~~~~

Severa nodded after listening to Harumi's story. "You're pretty lucky to be here then aren't you?" Severa said, still looking up at the stars. All of them were distant worlds. So many of them, yet the Enforcers had a stranglehold over all of them. Severa could only dream of liberating them all. "Now get some sleep. You'll be of no use to anyone if you're this tired. Would probably fall asleep in the middle o' battle they way you are now." Severa directed Harumi.

"I faced one in battle, attempted to rest another, and found myself healed by a third. The latter two showed their own signs of weakness. You should never show compassion or mercy to an enemy, for the may come back and hunt you again." Horizon said, "But, you are correct. No reason to be too assuming." He gave Lyon a smile (almost a real one) and a nod, then turned to look at Kirito.

"As Lyon said, we are currently heading towards a tavern. It is likely we will be able to find an informant and root out where the rebels are."

~

Harumi simply laid down right there, her body laying along the ground, "I'm used to sleeping like this; outside, with the stars above me." She said. It had all been because she had been running. It was easier to track someone if they slept at an inn. Simply ask the innkeeper and they would direct you to them. Harumi had decided on sleeping outside, where she could flee and cloak herself in a moment's notice.

"How about that tavern?" Kirito pointed. " I sense some dark energy over there..." There were two people outside, it was too far to see them, and vice versa.
