My Christmas present for the amazing Sara! I combined Destiel and the little-Winchester idea, so I hope you like it! Merry Christmas!! c:
Dean enjoyed the quiet. He liked the set ups they had in motels, but there was something special about lying beside the Impala and staring up at the starry sky. He could almost forget his laundry list of problems.
“Dean, want a beer?” Sam called to him from inside the Impala.
“Sure. Don’t give Sara any, though.” Dean turned his head to grin at his younger sister. She was sprawled out on the grass beside him and rolled her eyes.
Sam chuckled, and Dean could easily picture the way his cheeks would crease.
“Sara, you beat that game yet? The one you were playing back at the motel?” Dean asked, still watching the stars twinkle.
“Kingdom Hearts.” Sara said. “And yeah, I beat it.”
“Kingdom of Hearts. Cheesy name.”
“Kingdom Hearts, not Kingdom of Hearts.”
“Alright, alright.” Dean laughed.
Sam had backed out of the Impala, his arms full of drinks. He tossed a soda to Sara and a beer to Dean.
“Cas said he’s coming.” Dean took a quick swig of beer. “After he ganks whatever angel he’s after, or is after him.”
“He said he’d come last time too, Dean.” Sam said skeptically as he took a seat on the other side of Sara.
“He’s busy, Sam.” Dean said curtly.
Dean was entirely unprepared for what happened next. He’d been staring at the night sky, but suddenly the night sky was everywhere. He, Sam, and Sara were surrounded by the twinkling lights.
“Do you like it, Dean?”
Dean felt a smile spread across his lips. He knew that voice.
“Cas, you made it!” He pulled himself off the ground and turned, drawing Cas into a tight hug. He clapped his back and pulled away with a smile that had doubled in size.
A smile spread across Sam’s and Sara’s faces. Maybe Castiel and Dean wouldn’t admit what was there, but to Dean’s family, it was obvious.
“Did you get that angel off your ass?”
“Yes.” Cas nodded quickly. “I’m not late, am I?”
“No, Cas, you’re right on time.” It wasn’t often that Dean smiled so fully. “What is this, anyway?”
“It’s just an illusion. I tried to make it look like the sky. Do you like it?” He turned his head slightly so that his gaze would include Sam and Sara. “Do all of you like it?”
“It’s beautiful, Cas.” Sara said, reaching out to touch one of the stars. They were close, almost as if she could pluck one right out of the sky.
Dean didn’t mean to drop his beer, but it slipped right out of his fingers. The scene around him was so awe-inspiring that he barely cared. “It’s awesome, Cas.”
“Yeah, this is amazing.” Sam poked one of the stars and was shocked when it actually moved.
“It’s not real.” Castiel said, “You can move anything.”
Immediately the Winchesters began playing with the stars. They could literally pick them up and move them wherever they pleased.
Dean was the one who started the starball fight. While Sam and Sara had their backs turned, he fired off stars at them.
“Dean!” Sara yelled as she turned, stars spattered across the back of her jacket.
“The stars do not hurt, do they?” Cas asked, obviously worried.
“They’re fine, Cas.” Sam chuckled as he chucked a star back at his brother. “You can barely feel them.”
Sara and Sam threw lumps of stars at the same time, both hitting Dean directly in the chest. He pretended to be offended. “Well they hurt if you throw enough of them!”
He dragged Cas in front of him. “I’ve got a hostage!” Dean shouted, grabbing a clump of stars.
“That’s pretty low, Dean.” Sam smirked.
“I’m being double-teamed! Not fair! If you get Sara, I get the angel.”
“Dean, is there any real tactical advantage to—” Dean cut Cas off before he could finish.
“Come on, Cas, just throw some starballs.” Dean bumped the angel’s shoulder and shoved a fistful of stars into his palm just as a starball smashed into his forehead.
“We’ve got to get a picture of Dean’s face!” Sara laughed.
Stars were splattered all across Dean’s face and dotted in his hair. Dean reached up automatically to brush them away. “You’ve got me looking like a painted whore!”
Sam and Sara giggled, and a little chuckle slipped through even Cas’s lips.
Sam chucked another starball, this one nailing Castiel in the chest. It obviously didn’t hurt, but Cas stared down at the stars clinging to his clothes like they were entirely foreign.
“Cas, throw the starball!” Dean shouted, gently grabbing onto Cas’s arm and guiding him through a throw. The starball missed and exploded just over Sara’s shoulder, but Cas was determined not to miss the next one.
He collected a few stars and molded them into a ball as Dean was assaulted. With a carefully aimed throw he hit Sam squarely in his stomach.
Sam laughed, dropping his own starball.
“Nice shot, Cas!” Dean high-fived him.
Their starball fight went on for another twenty minutes before Sam and Sara finally surrendered to Cas’s angelic throwing skills.
Cas didn’t get rid of the star illusion—it was much too beautiful to banish for no reason—but he zapped away for a moment to grab three bags of fast food. The Winchesters had no idea how he could have gotten all that food in a few milliseconds, but they didn’t question it.
Cas passed the bags around, and once everyone had food, they sat down to watch the stars.
