Another ordinary day of school. Kurenai was walking home, deciding to go on her own. Having friends for a change was nice, but she wanted time to think. I need to find the right person to help me with... She was cut off after accidentally bumping into someone, ending up knocked over in the process. "Oh, I'm so sorry!" She apologized, pulling herself up. The man glared at her, and continued on his way. Ugh, people these days... I'll never find who I'm looking for. I hope he's had at least some luck by now...

"I... I might need time before I can do this..." Hayate said, blush on his face and now fidgeting with his fingers. He looked like a little kid waiting outside his dentist's office for a check up: scared and not very hopeful.

"Well, you've got until the next time the group shows up! You'll want them to see it, otherwise they won't believe it." Kurenai informed the two, clearly having fun with this now.

Hayate could only grow more nervous as time passed. He imagined that Rikka felt the same.

Meanwhile, outside the cafe, a girl leading a small group of other girls hid behind a brick wall as she spied on Hayate from afar with binoculars.

"There he is ladies..." She said, focusing her gaze on Hayate as the girls behind her scrambled to see what she was seeing.

"Hey wait, Aina, it looks like Hayate's with another girl!" One of them pointed out, noticing Rikka.

"Not just one either, there's two of them!" Another said, referring to Kurenai; the group then began to slightly panic.

"Ladies, ladies, calm down!" Anko said, bringing order to her troupe. "We've dealt with this situation before. Hayate's too sweet to make any moves on those girls. We'll be the ones to strike first!" She said, clenching her fist in assurance.

"How do you know he won't try anything first? Look at him, he's a total player!" another girl griped.

"Come on, Kumiko, when have you ever seen him do that?" the girl beside her argued.

"I don't know, but it could happen, Yuki!" Kumiko responded.

"Kumiko, Yuki, enough!" Anko said, silencing the two girls. "We have a mission to complete! Now let's move out!"

After the group got back on the same page, Anko led them to just below a window of the cafe, in the alley where no one would suspect them. Anko focused her binoculars on Hayate once more, studying his movements in full view...

(Oh wow they have names)

Kurenai noticed a pair of binoculars pop up from beneath a window. Hm... Well, I guess they didn't have as much time as I thought. She smirked. "So, Hayate..." She spoke loudly, trying to make it clear that they were being watched. "How have things been between you and Rikka? Have you done anything fun together?" She asked.

Rikka began to blush. A-are they here already...? She thought, becoming worried.

"U-uh..." Hayate did not have a choice but to play along now. "It was... it was good..." Hayate said nervously.

"That's good to know." Kurenai smiled. "What all have you two done together so far?" She asked curiously, smirking.

Hayate didn't it have it in him to describe such things in public, even if Rikka and him were dating...

Meanwhile, Anko and the others overheard what Kurenai was saying. "What the... what is that ugly girl next to Hayate saying?"

"Oh my God, she said that the other girl and Hayate were dating!" Yuki silently yelled.

"Yeah, I know right?! She's totally bland, like what the hell?!" Kumiko said as well.

"Shut it!" Anko said, putting her fist on the top of both their heads.

"S-sorry..." They both aplogized, rubbing their lumps as they quieted down and observed with everyone else...

Kurenai could barely see the tops of heads seemingly bicker with each other. Heh... They seem pretty mad. She thought, trying not to laugh. "What... Too nervous to tell us, Hayate? I guess that's okay, then..." She sighed. "Why did you choose her, anyway?" She asked, trying to continue to rile up the stalkers.

"W-why did I choose her....?" Hayate asked, the girls indeed riling up quite a few notches. "Well... I-I guess I'd put it as... she's very nice... and smart... and... b-beautiful" Hayate said, the last part coming out of nowhere in his mind; he covered his mouth in surprise, hiding the massive blush on his face.

Anko sent a death glare in Rikka's direction, an imaginary tick mark forming on her head as the other girls become equally displeased.

Rikka also blushed, and began to stutter. "U-uh... Th-thank you, Hayate..." She mumbled, unsure of whether or not what he said was part of the act, or a serious thought.

Kurenai tried to hold back a laugh, realizing that what Hayate had said was an accidental slip. This could be a lot more entertaining than I thought it would be... A mischievous grin spread across her face. "You think she's beautiful, huh? What do you like best about her?" She asked.

Haseo also caught on, and he was now glaring at Hayate. I knew I shouldn't have trusted him with poor Rikka... This won't end well.

"Well... she.... her eyes are pretty... and... uh..." Hayate's unfamiliarity with the opposite sex was holding him back from going into deeper detail.

Kurenai continued to keep up her trick. "And... What?" She asked, leaning in towards Hayate a bit. "What else is it?" She could barely keep herself from laughing herself to tears at this point. She imagined the faces of those stalker girls, which made it even funnier to her.

"Uh... uh..." Hayate was at his limit. He could barely form sentences any more.

Anko and the girls stared daggers at both Rikka and Kurenai.

"Now that other ugly girl is getting close to him. This is totally not fair!" Kumiko complained.

"She's such a flirt too! Look at her: she looks like she's gonna kiss him!" Yuki said, noticing how close Kurenai was getting.

Kurenai noticed that Hayate seemed to be unable to speak much at this point. "Hm... It's okay if you don't tell us. What goes on between you two is your business, after all." She said, trying to lighten up.

Rikka sighed, thankful that Kurenai was done with her teasing. "Th-thanks..." She muttered.

"I don't want to know what he was going to say, anyway..." Haseo grumbled, still angry.

Hayate breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank you, Teacher." he said, calming down. He was now calm enough to notice that he was being spied on...

Anko and the girls noticed this as well, Kumiko and Yuki letting out small yelps before they all ducked down.

"Abort mission, abort mission!" Anko whisper-yelled to the group as they ran off.

Kurenai waited a few seconds, before relaxing. "I think they left... It looks like the plan worked well. Now we just need to hope they don't come after Rikka." She said.

Rikka looked nervous. "W-wait... I didn't know that that would be a problem..." She stuttered, now worried.

"Well... You should be fine. As long as they don't know where you live, you'll be safe... I think." Kurenai said, becoming unsure of herself now that she knew just how dedicated the girls were.

"Don't worry, Rikka. They normally just tend to prowl around school together. And since most of them are below our grade, you shouldn't have any problems running into them that often," Hayate said.

Kurenai gave Hayate a funny look once again. "Oh, you seem a lot calmer than usual when you're comforting Rikka... Are you sure that you're just acting?" She joked. Rikka blushed again, and Haseo continued to scowl.

"Uh, p-please Teacher, I've had enough for one day..." Hayate said exhaustily, a sweat drop forming on the side of his face.

"Alright." Kurenai smiled at her student. "So... Now what?" She asked, unsure of what to do. She considered suggesting that everyone could train in Brain Burst, but at the same time, wasn't sure if everyone was up to training.

"Well... we could always head in Brain Burst," Hayate suggested, almost if he could read his teacher's mind.

  • Author

"Hm... That would work." Kurenai agreed. How did he know I was thinking that...? "We should probably do that somewhere private, though... We can go back to my home if you all want."

"I'm okay with that." Rikka nodded.

"Same here." Haseo smirked. "I could go for a few battles right now."

"I agree as well," Hayate said.

"Alright. Let's go, then." Kurenai stood, and led the way back to her house...

Once the group had made it to their destination, Kurenai looked at the other three with her. "So... What should we do in Brain Burst? Hayate could use some training, probably..." She suggested.

"Of course, Teacher. I'm always ready to train with you," Hayate confirmed.
