Another ordinary day of school. Kurenai was walking home, deciding to go on her own. Having friends for a change was nice, but she wanted time to think. I need to find the right person to help me with... She was cut off after accidentally bumping into someone, ending up knocked over in the process. "Oh, I'm so sorry!" She apologized, pulling herself up. The man glared at her, and continued on his way. Ugh, people these days... I'll never find who I'm looking for. I hope he's had at least some luck by now...

"Uh... Y-yeah." Kurenai whispered back. After doing so, she made her way outside, trying to act as calmly as possible to avoid making the situation any worse than it already was.

After Kurenai stepped out outside, Hayate made his way out the main door, hurriedly shuffling past students and making his way to his locker. Guarding the view of his screen with his back, he opened up his virtual menu and sent Kurenai a message to meet her at his house.

Kurenai noticed she received a new message. It's either Hayate, or one of those other girls trying to pick a fight... I hope it's Hayate. She opened it, and sighed in relief after reading the name accompanying it. After reading its message, she quickly gathered her belongings, and ran off to Hayate's house. She knocked on his door, impatiently waiting for him to let her in. After what had just happened, she wanted to stay far away from where anyone else could see her.

Hayate casually greeted his teacher and led her into the house and then into his room, which was very plain aesthetically, his most notable accessory being the large bookshelf that contained his novels, as well as some books on martial arts, mediation, spirituality, and the like.

Normally, a boy Hayate's age would be nervous as he was bringing a girl into his room for the first time, but for Hayate, more pressing issues were on his mind. Plus he wanted to pretend that the "incident" from earlier never happened...

Kurenai followed Hayate into his room. "So..." She tried to say something to help lighten the mood. "What did you need from me? I'm guessing it was something important, if you asked me to come here..." She said, trying to not look around his room.

"I wanted us to train some more. I want to make sure I'm ready for the upcoming tournament. Plus, it has been a while since we got to spend time just with each other..." Hayate said, hoping that last sentence wouldn't drift into unwanted territory.

"Oh... Okay." Kurenai nodded. "In that case... We can go ahead and have a match, if you'd like. Just let me know when you're ready." She told her student. She avoided saying anything about his last statement, and instead prepared for a battle.

"Right," Hayate said.

He then quickly sent an invite to Kurenai for a duel in Brain Burst.

Kurenai accepted the duel request, and the two were quickly transported to the world of Brain Burst. They were taken to an ordinary arena, similar to where they had trained at the Blue Leigon's base. "Good... This is the same type of arena you'll be fighting in for the tournament. We got lucky with this." She said, now in her rusted armor as usual. Once the fight began, she stood still, waiting for her opponent to make the first move.

Hayate made the first move as Kurenai had wanted.

He moved in close and tried to send a uppercut to her chin.

Kurenai quickly dodged Hayate's attack, and countered with a kick to his legs. That wasn't a bad attack at all... I barely managed to dodge that. She thought, smirking beneath her helmet.

Hayate's legs buckled from the impact of Kurenai's hit, but absorbing the pain he quickly restarted his footing and took advantage of Kurenai's open guard and delivered a right hook to the side of her face.

Kurenai was unable to avoid the hit, and Hayate's fist hit its target. Kurenai stumbled, but quickly regained her balance. "That was a good hit, Cadmium Limit." She told her student. "Now... Let's see how you are when the fight becomes more serious!" She decided to follow up with three punches aimed at Hayate's face.

Hayate blocked her strikes but it was evident that the kick was doing more damage than he previously thought as he stumbled back before resetting his stance again.

I guess I couldn't handle the amount of pain she threw at me... shoot... wait. I need to calm down. Focus on the battle, and the pain will hurt less. He thought to himself, charging at Kurenai and aiming for another right hook.

Kurenai dodged Hayate's attack again, and attempted to trip him with a kick. He's starting to wear down. This should be easier now. She thought as she attacked, although she kept her guard up in case he surprised her.

Hayate struggled to make his legs move and help catapult him up to dodge the sweep kick, but failed to take notice of Kurenai's guard, and after jumping he used his momentum to spin around and punch her, only for it to be blocked.

Kurenai barely managed to block Hayate's punch. I had a feeling that attack wouldn't hit him. Good thing I was prepared... She grabbed Hayate's arm, pulled him closer to her, and punched his face.

"Gah!" Hayate cried through his helmet, taking the blow head on.

Kurenai watched as Hayate's HP meter depleted, ending their sparring match. The two returned to the real world, and Kurenai found herself back in Hayate's room. "You're speed is improving quite a bit, Hayate. By the time the tournament starts, you'll definitely be able to compete with the other players." She smiled at her student, glad that he was learning so quickly.

"Thank you Sensei..." Hayate said in earnest, though still a little miffed from losing the duel.

"You're welcome, Hayate." Kurenai's smile widened. She seemed alert as she received a new message, and read over it. "It's Haseo..." She sighed, sounding somewhat frustrated. "He says that he wants to know where we are. He wanted another meeting to discuss our plans with Rikka before we all finish training you for the tournament. We should probably go meet them, they want to meet at my house."

"Alright, I understand," Hayate said.

The group all eventually met back at Kurenai's home, all prepared to go over their revised plan. "Okay... Kurenai will join me by my throne as my guard, for when the other Kings decide to start their attack. Hayate, we'll need you read to spring into action at any time. Same goes for you, Rikka." Haseo began to speak. He eventually finished going over their plan.

"If you're done, there's something I need to talk to Rikka about in private." Kurenai told Haseo. "Here, follow me, Rikka. We'll meet in my room. No boys allowed, okay?" She joked with Haseo and Hayate, before the two both left into another room.

"In private? Aw, come on... They're leaving me alone with you, now." Haseo sighed, somewhat angered by the idea of being stuck with Hayate.

Hayate tensed up and said nothing. He could feel the tension coming from Haseo from a mile way. But, as he had promised Kurenai to not get hostile with Haseo, he did exactly that, instead standing quietly, hopefully waiting for the chance for things to get a little less tense...

"So... What is it with you and Kurenai, anyway?" Haseo asked Hayate, somewhat annoyed. "You two act way too close... Where did you both sneak off after that incident in the cafeteria, anyway? No one saw you two for the rest of the day."
