Another ordinary day of school. Kurenai was walking home, deciding to go on her own. Having friends for a change was nice, but she wanted time to think. I need to find the right person to help me with... She was cut off after accidentally bumping into someone, ending up knocked over in the process. "Oh, I'm so sorry!" She apologized, pulling herself up. The man glared at her, and continued on his way. Ugh, people these days... I'll never find who I'm looking for. I hope he's had at least some luck by now...

"I promise you that I will be strong. There isn't anything that will keep me from doing so," Hayate said, narrowing his eyes towards his teacher to indicate how serious he truly was.

(I almost called her my sensei. xD)

"I can tell you will be." Kurenai responded. "Now then... I believe that concludes training for today." She was silent for a moment. "By the way... Sorry about Blue. He's impatient, and a bit of a jerk... But if you get to know him, he's really not that bad of a guy."

"I see... well, I already respect him as a fighter, but I see what you mean. I'll try to get along with him better," Hayate responded, putting his hands in his pockets.

"Alright, good." Kurenai smiled. "Now then... I don't think there's anything else we have today, unless you've got a specific request." She looked at Hayate, curious if he had anything else to say. "Otherwise, we're done for the day."

"Thank you, but I'm alright, Teacher," Hayate said. "With training comes rest so that both the body and mind can reinvigorate themselves and be ready for the next battle. That is what I have been taught from my martial arts training."

"Heh, that's true. Alright, that concludes lessons for the day." Kurenai smiled. "You can go home now, if you'd like. We'll continue our training tomorrow, at school if possible."

"Alright. Goodbye Teacher," Hayate said, quickly bowing once more before leaving to his own house.

Once Hayate left, Kurenai sat down at a nearby chair, sighing. "I knew the other Kings would do this sooner or later... We should have prepared sooner." She muttered, worried about the news that Haseo had told her earlier.

The next day...

Kurenai entered the school cafeteria, and tried to spot either one of her fellow Burst Linkers. She quickly spotted Haseo sitting down alone at a table, and made her way over to him. "Hey, Blue." She greeted her friend, who grumbled in response.

"I'd really appreciate if you called me Haseo on this side..." He muttered. "I'll call you Kurenai, and we call the newbie Hayate. By the way... Your name's pretty ironic." He smirked.

"Yeah, I know..." Kurenai glared at Haseo, and sat down.

Hayate entered the lunchroom, got his food, and immediately spotted his teacher as well as Haseo.

"Hello, Teacher," Hayate greeted as he sat down next to them. "And um... hello to you too Haseo." Hayate added, remembering that he said he'd get along better with Blue Ape.

"Hello, Hayate." Kurenai greeted her student.

"Yo." Haseo said, without looking up from his food. "So... How'd it go when I left? I hope you didn't try to make any moves, newbie." He sounded slightly threatening. Kurenai sighed, clearly not happy with Haseo's comment.

"Of course not... Kurenai's my teacher now. I wouldn't do something like that with her," Hayate said calmly, as the fangirls behind him sighed in relief after hearing he wasn't interested in the weird girl with red hair.

"Alright... I'll make sure that you keep that up, rookie." Haseo eyed Hayate.

Kurenai noticed the girls behind Hayate all sigh after he said that nothing happened between them. ... I get a feeling I'm going to be getting a lot more attention than usual from now on... She sighed, and continued eating.

Hmm... Haseo seems to be jealous of me and Teacher... I wonder why... Hayate thought to himself as he too started eating.

"So... Did you learn anything else about Crim?" Kurenai timidly asked Haseo.

"Nope... Nothing new." He sighed. "For now, we'll have to stick to our current plan."

"In other words... Things aren't looking very bright." Kurenai sighed.

"That is a shame. If you want, Haseo, I could offer my services to you," Hayate said, trying to establish that he truly wanted to see him and Haseo as friends.

"Heh. We'll need your help, newbie. We'll need all the help we can get." Haseo smirked.

Kurenai sighed in relief. It seems like Hayate really did listen to me yesterday... That's good

"That also means you're going to have to spend the next month training as hard as you can with us! We've got to get you to at least level 6 so you can really help in the fight!" Haseo exclaimed. "I hope you're ready."

"I am always ready Haseo. I won't let you or Teacher down." Hayate made a fist with his right hand and put it against his left palm and shortly bowed in his seat to Haseo. Now he was really trying to show his worth to his word.

"Hm... You've at least got spirit. I'll give you that much." Haseo was surprised by Hayate's enthusiasm. "I suppose that you'd be willing to prove that, then?" He asked.

Oh boy... Kurenai sighed.

"And before you challenge me, you won't be facing me." Haseo smirked again.

"I will take on whomever I need to," Hayate said with a stern look as he finished his bow and rested his hands on the table.

"Good. Hm... I'm sure there's someone in the Blue Legion who would be a good opponent for you." Haseo suggested, looking to Kurenai. "Right?"

Kurenai nodded. "There are a lot of people who could be good opponents for him. Even the Red Legion probably has a few."

  • 2 weeks later...

"Is that so? Are there any in particular you would like to point out?" Hayate asked.

"Hm... We've got a lot of options." Haseo thought about who would be a good match for Hayate. "Well... How about Azure Serpent? She could probably put up a good fight for the rookie." He suggested.

"Yes, Azure Serpent will do well! She should be willing to fight him, too." Kurenai nodded. "She's probably in Blue Territory in the Unlimited Neutral Field. As long as we walk Hayate through there, he shouldn't be attacked by anyone else."

"Alright then, let's go!" Haseo exclaimed. "Hey, rookie. Have you gone to the Unlimited Neutral Field before?" He asked Hayate.

"Slow down, Blue..." Kurenai sighed. "We should wait until after school."

"Oh, fine..." Haseo sighed.

"The Unlimited Natural Field? I'm afraid I've only gone there once. I.... I was testing the amount of punishment my body could take, knowing that full damage is taken in the field rather than just half damage like in the normal duel environment. Unfortunately, I did not fair too well..." Hayate said, closing his eyes and thinking back when he got stomped by some higher ranking players he foolishly agreed to battle.

"However, I'm stronger than I was before, and wiser. I shall not repeat the past, especially considering the growth I've gained since then," Hayate proclaimed, opening his eyes and looking more determined with himself.

"That's good to hear. Alright, after school, we'll all meet at my house again." Kurenai smiled. "We'll dive in there. That way, we don't suddenly seem to zone out for a few seconds here in public."

After school, the group once again met at Kurenai's house. They had all entered the Unlimited Natural Field, and were in their Burst Link avatars. The field was currently in the Wasteland stage. Cyan Swan stretched. "Alright, let's get going. Blue Territory isn't too far from here. It shouldn't take too long to get to Azure Serpent." She said, and began walking to the east.

"Right! You'd better keep up, rookie!" Blue Ape walked ahead of Cyan Swan, now leading the party.

"I understand. Lead the way," Hayate said, following the two and keeping check of the environment around them.
