I recently rewatched the series for the first time since 2012, and frankly its still one of my favorite animes. I loved the plot and the themes of identity, long distance relationships, and loss. The animation and music are also fantastic. The only thing is, I've noticed its gotten an immense amount of hate. Why?

Most people haven't, its generally a more obscure anime. I hear it was created as a spiritual successor to Eureka Seven but from what I can gather some of the themes(and I don't mean music) and character designs are the only things similar.

Xam'd never had a manga. They were both created by bones(they animated soul eater).

I think this is a pretty good review of it. I disagree with him about the story though, although at times it is confusing it does actually explain a lot of the things he mentioned. Though if you plan to watch the series I would recommend the dub, its really great.

Because I still don't even know what happened, especially at the end there, and when I googled it, no one else knew either.

Didn't hate it, but it was rather vague.  Maybe language barrier issues?
