So, Tokyo Ghoul... its a show alright.

I'm not really one to get into horror series. The closest I've gotten is watching or reading series that have elements of horror in them, like Soul Eater, Attack On Titan, and even JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. However, Tokyo Ghoul is a full fledged horror series, and from what I've seen, a really good one at that.

Tokyo Ghoul literally premiered today; it's animated by Studio Pierrot and licensed by Funimation for streaming in NA. The show's premise can literally be summed up in the title: Its in Tokyo and its about Ghouls... the end. lol

No not really. The real premise is that its set in Tokyo and there's these freaks running around called Ghouls, red and black eyed creatures (for the Naruto fans, you might notice it kinda looks like a mix between Sharingan and Byakugan) which are basically zombies on steroids that look like humans and love eating people. And I do mean love. Its also implied that they have some other powers, but its still unclear at the moment.

Anyways, the star of this show is a college student named Kaneki. We first see him with his pal Hide at a cafe, where we see them going on about dates while a reporting of a Ghoul event goes on and they don't even care... okay then. After Kaneki gets to go on a date with a hot chick who came into the cafe and loves reading as much as he does, Rize, he ends up getting hospitalized after Rize tries to eat him, because yes, she's a Ghoul. And in what I can describe as one of the biggest "f**k you" to any main protagonist I've ever seen: one of Rize's eyes and some of her organs are transplanted into Kaneki so he can live, and because of that, he himself becomes a Ghoul-Human hybrid. We then seeing the "change" of sorts start to develop in Kaneki: he craves human flesh, regular food tastes bad, and he can't be hurt by knives. Eventually, he has a mental breakdown, and ends up in a "feeding" area where he's intercepted by another Ghoul (Hide's creepy roommate Nishiki actually. Yeah, that's fitting) and then saved by yet another Ghoul named Toka, a girl who came up earlier in the episode (she was a waitress at the cafe who Kaneki had a thing for until Rize showed up), who forces him to eat a human hand and come to terms with him now being part Ghoul. The episode ends there, and boy is there a lot to take in from this.

There are a lot of good things I can say about his show: great animation, really tense atmosphere, blood and gore and more blood all over, its pure horror at its best. And right now, all I can hope for is that the lore and mechanics of the universe can be revealed a bit more in the next installment, like how Toka and Nishiki's dialouge implied that there's like this whole Ghoul "underworld" where they assign districts for the Ghouls to eat. So yeah, a lot more info. on that would be appreciated. And maybe I'll keep an eye out for the manga too (which started in 2011 if you didn't know).

I'm on Episode 2 of Root A.

Being spoiled boosted my interest by 1,000,honestly. I just hope it doesn't go down by 7.

I think you and I are pushing the 1000-7 torture a little too far. . .

awesome. While you are at it, you can watch english dub of Root A after or during your binge watching. It is currently at episode 3 now, and new dub episodes release every Wednesday on Funimation at 9:00pm.

EDIT: A note of warning, since you are spoiled now, you may or may not get somewhat disappointed in the anime compared to manga.

Just so everybody knows, I'm not watching the broadcast dub. One because I would rather see the first anime dubbed first and two because its a broadcast dub so I'm not expecting it to be all that stellar.

I had that similar feeling as well. I had a chance to watch the dub and sub on Thursday, and said "Screw it. . . After 10am class, boot up mobile phone, Tokyo Ghoul Hour!"

I haven't spoiled much except for the main events like Sasaki Haise, and Kaneki doing missions, but I was kinda disappointed when Kaneki didn't break Ayato's bones.

I just saw the latest episode of Tokyo Ghoul √A and I thought it was pretty good. For one, --

I honestly didn't think Koma's "Devil Ape" thing would actually mean anything, but I'm glad to see it wasn't just him bullshitting us. Having Irimi be the "Black Dober" was a nice addition too. Easily the best characters of the episode. :) Also, the stuff with Touka/Yomo and Yoshimura/Shinohara, especially Yoshimura going Owl on the CCG grunts, was pretty great too.

The only thing I didn't like was when Tsukiyama showed up. I just can't stand his character anymore. He's creepy and annoying and his goals are one-sided. Even if they're much better in the manga, I couldn't care less because I know that he's STILL annoying. There's not much to like anyway. He's basically a literal pedofile with his sights set on Kaneki, except replace "having sex with Kaneki" with "EATING Kaneki". He's basically the Orochimaru of the series except he lacks the qualities that make Orochimaru cool and interesting.

Trust me man, there is far worse trash than Tsukiyama in Tokyo Ghoul. *Looks at a certain clown in ch. 143 (last chapter of TG)*

Not to mention, he has some better development in TG manga than Root A, since they have him show up at random times.

I doubt they could make me sour unless they are worse than being a pedofile. Murder is one thing but since most of our main characters HAVE murdered people because of them being Ghouls, its not really a big factor for me to judge anybody too harshly in this particular series. So this clown guy has to be some kind of genocidal maniac who reguarly stomps on puppies and baby ducklings for me to dislike him more than Tsukiyama.

let's just say he's the catalyst of everything that happened to Kaneki. I'm not saying anymore though.

I'm not sure if Root A might get an original ending. Seems like they gonna go for manga ending. (Which has me freaking out).

Oh, he's

the doctor guy who put Rize's organs inside him?

Yeah, I already know about him. Again, unless he is also revealed to do other stuff, I don't think I'll dislike him more than Tsukiyama.

Also, I need to get my act in gear, or this guy is gonna take the unravel remix world!

(Sounds great BTW)

Nope. The clown is a ghoul. He may or may not reveal himself at the last episode of Root A if they don't take the manga ending route. I'm hoping for different ending because (view spoiler if read manga) of the manga's direction, and for the fact that TG:re still has ways to go before becoming an anime.

(Spoilers from chapter 140)

I'm not ready to see Kaneki die with holes in his head yet ;_;

We are taking a manga route in the anime now, but with Touka's actions episode 9, it may lead to a different ending that is probably more tragic than the manga ending.

Chapter 20 of Tokyo Ghoul:re is out!

LOL, I typed in "Kafka Crossbreed," went to images, and I get manga panels of Tokyo Ghoul:re due to the said book being used in one of the chapters.

Hilarious.

Don't type that in though, spoilers are everywhere in the google images section.

Wanna learn something interesting about TG series? Both TG and TG:re related to Kafka's short stories. In particular, Metamorphosis relates to TG, while Crossbreed relates to TG:re. Both manga and stories have the similar themes and outcomes. Which confirms one thing about TG:re. . . Don't expect it to have the tragic ending like TG had, however, do expect tragedies along the way, like what happened in chapter 20 in TG:re when I went bonkers.

Speaking of TG:re, new chapter is out, and the battle continues to escalate. I got a bad feeling about Mutsuki Tooru though. . .

Here's the chappy: http://imperialscans.com/read/tokyo-ghoul-re/21-select/1

Humanities class ruined my way of thinking in terms of TG. Do some research on Existentialism. You'll be surprised of how many connections you can make towards Kafka and Tokyo Ghoul series.

EDIT: I just reread the chapter, I forgot to mention, next chapter will lead off with a couple color pages!

Good news gais. Apparently, because of popular demand, Tk's song, "Unravel," will make a return as the ending theme song for the last episode of Tokyo Ghoul Root A, just like how the song showed up in full at episode 12 of season one.

However, this version of Unravel will be stripped down. That's right. Tk from Ling Tosite Sigure will be performing an acoustic version of Unravel. Now by connecting the facts that the last episode is called "Ken," and the ending chapter of Tokyo Ghoul is also called "Ken," and a somber version of Unravel to be played in the last episode. . .

You really gonna do it, are you Ishida-san? Screw you man for messing up my feelings. ;_;

In terms of manga news, new chapter of TG:re is out. We lead off with a color page of a returning character who we have first seen appeared in this manga in chapter 20. If you look in the middle, you can find a Tarot card number that ishida is known for implementing in the series. I will not say the number, for it may spoil the readers who are about to read the Antieku arc. But DAMN, he's beyond hope ;_;

here's the chapter: http://imperialscans.com/read/tokyo-ghoul-re/22-misrun/1

Strangely enough, there is going to be a live stage adaption of Tokyo Ghoul, but information about this is scarce. It's confirmed, but i don't know how the hell they gonna pull it off.

Not gonna lie, I've been in a huge Kaneki Ken mood last month. Cosplaying, creating rpg characters, profile pics.

Until Sky recently showed me Arima Kishou.

The freaking guy was only shown fighting once at the end of the manga and his badassness can't be matched.

Ahhh yes. . . Arima Kishou. You might like him or hate him. It depends on what your thoughts are of him and his interaction with Kaneki throughout the series (Including Re).

But then again, you might like him. Think of him as the owner of the half-cat/half-sheep from Kafka's Crossbreed. ;)

Well, Tokyo Ghoul √A came to a close and.... well... it was a thing.

Alright, I have to be honest, I'm disappointed by this outcome. In fact, I'm disappointed by a lot of what √A did, because if you just watch the show by itself, while it was good at handling (some) characters and their development, it was piss poor at storytelling. The only reason I was able to understand what was going on was from watching reviews of the episodes and having people who have read the manga explain things (without spoilers) because just like the first season, √A just loves to cut out at least 75% of what the hell is supposed to be happening from the manga. I didn't give crap to the first season on that because the story they told in that season was decent enough. But in √A? Uh-uh. Too many cut corners.

It's one thing to not adapt a manga straight into an anime, but its another to do so in a manner that leaves out information, crucial information, basic information, that is needed for the viewer to understand the fine lining of the plot. The final episode alone gave us more questions than answers, and there is still a load of questions left on top of that. All this anime does is make me think I should have just started reading the manga.

Have fun. And keep an eye out on the numbers.

Also, Do not fear. We will still get more Tokyo Ghoul anime. It is announced that Pierrot will be doing Tokyo Ghoul: JACK OVA. This spin-off is basically a prequel to Tokyo Ghoul. and it follows Arima Kishou in his high school days as a Senior Investigator.
