I just don't like how apes are kept in enclosures

Posted

Like seriously, they just need to be set out into the wild. They have levels of self awareness, and can be concerned about their futures. Orangutans have the intelligence of human children for f*cks sake.

I guess I'm only bringing this up because when I went to the Seattle zoo earlier this summer I could see how sad the orangutans were. They don't like being stared at for their whole lives, just like people. And you could see that. The babies were staring at the glass with a fearful look in their eyes and they were trying to cover up their faces :(

I just don't think it's right.

how long ago? i work at the Zoo in seattle

I think in july

They're intelligent, sure, but apes are the most intelligent animals period. Like the fact is many Bonobos and Gorillas have developed a pretty large vocabulary of sign language. Orangutans are as smart as human children and have been accomplished artists. Even Chimps are smarter than dolphins.

Not to mention humans are apes as well.

Also dolphins aren't endangered in the wild. They're pretty protected.

http://www.apa.org/monitor/oct04/smarter.aspxhttp://understanddolphins.tripod.com/dolphinbrainandintelligence.htmlSo far we don't know how to properly test the intelligence of dolphins, mostly because unlike creatures with two arms and two legs (approx arms and hands) dolphins only have fins (and a tail fin).We know they are intelligent, we simply don't know how intelligent. But most of what I can find on the internet is that quite possibly they are one of the most intelligent species outside of humans. (depending on the species of dolphin of course)

And even if they were only as intelligent as apes, WHAT DOES THEM BEING ENDANGERED OR NOT HAVE TO DO WITH THIS!?!? You were upset with them being captive because you think they are sad being captive, and it is unethical to keep something that intelligent. But even if dolphins were just as intelligent as chimps, if you promote freeing chimps because of their intelligence you should also promote freeing dolphins. Also keep in mind that Dolphins roam a much bigger territory than probably all apes aside from humans. Where even the biggest enclosures for dolphins are much less than 1% of the size of where they usually roam...  So, why don't you also want to free the dolphins? They fit your ethical criteria for wanting to free the apes.

Though I also want to note that some people some people think I am sad when being cooped up, when I am perfectly happy.... And then insist on making me go places and just simply tire me out. All because they mistook my body language, my facial experessions, and made assumptions based on their own opinions. And if that can happen from human to human, it most certainly can happen from human to chimp, orangutang, bonobos, and gorillas.

Are there seriously people who don't believe in evolution coming into this thread? o.o
