Vocaloids including her, Megurine Luka (mah favorite), Rin and Len Kagamine, Kaito, Meiko, and a whole bunch of others are part of a computer program that uses computerized voices that you can use to create songs and what not. Each "Voice" is like a character and gets their own individual mascot. I know one.. Gackupo is created using Gackt's voice? The ones being advertised on TinierMe are just the Crypton Company's. Hatsune Miku isn't really the first one, she's just the one who's popularity is massive. Though she isn't my favorite... she DOES have nice songs. It all depends on the author. :B

Youtube or NicoNicoDouga is the best place to find their songs. It takes some time to pick out which ones you like or not. But I do recommend listening to at least all of them. ... I really like Vocaloids.. Lmao.

 

There are also 42352451 fan-made ones, or free ones called UTAU which can be made by anyone with a microphone and a proper programs. One of the more popular ones is Teto? Some consider her Miku's UTAU counterpart.. but meh. I don't really like teto.
