Things you've learned from your favorite writer/s

Posted

Like almost anyone, they have someone they admire and learn something from them.

With me, the person i admire is Joss Whedon, and what i've learned from it is that your story can always have good humor, while still being aware of the emotional stakes.

Who is your favorite writer and what have you learned from him/her?

I admire George R.R. Martin and learned with him that I can kill my characters as easily as I create them.

I admire how he can surprise the crap out of everyone with a simple death.

I learned about tension and creating a suspense feel to keep your reader hooked by having shorter chapters from James Patterson.

And I got the concept of "If people are happy, s**t needs to blow up" From Suzanne Collins.
