im on windows 8 and i keep getting harassased with "finish updating to win 8.1" messages, without any "remind me later" option so I have to keep shutting down.

Mines never reminds me to do such a thing. I think it's because I have Windows settings to only update me with crucial updates, which is like 1 every 2 weeks.

Have you forgotten how Amber and Alicia were constantly talking about not being able to copy and paste on Windows 8?

 

Don't do it Torch, updates aren't always for the best

 

My iPad is still on iOS 6; no complaints even with it asking me to update

I updated way when it came out and I've only found it to be an improvement. Is there a specific reason as to why you don't want to update?

Your real problem is that you're using Windows 8, but that probably doesn't solve your problem, so here's a solution I found if it helps you:

Windows 8.1 hasn't given me any problems. I don't see any obvious reason why you shouldn't.
