STORY 01: CHUNIN EXAMS

 

Somewhere within the Hidden Leaf Village, a massive stadium had been filled with shinobi. Most were chunin or jonin, but a few special genin were there as well. Why? The third part of the Chunin Exams was about to begin.

 

Koukon gazed around the room, trying to take in the spectacular scene. "Whoa... There are so many people here!" He exclaimed. "And they're all here to see me become a Chunin... I'm so happy to see that I have so many fans!" He exclaimed.

 

Hikari would normally make a sarcastic response to her friend, but seeing the crowd made her nervous. She knew they'd all be watching her, and if she made one mistake, everyone in the village would know. She hid behind Koukon, hoping that no one would pay attention to her, or even recognize her.

 

Kiyoshi was equally nervous, but at the same time, somewhat excited. This is it... My chance to prove that I'm a strong ninja. I can't mess it up here after all of my time training. She thought to herself, clenching her fist. Maybe I can prove that I'm as tough as Kiniku, too...!

 

 Juukou and Shiro both calmly stared at their competition. "Looks like we'll be up against a lot of people from our old class, Shiro... As long as we stay calm and think about their weaknesses, we'll be just fine." He smiled, and Shiro barked in response.

 

Nibai also silently observed the other genin. Hm... It seems like the competition could be tough... Master Fujiri's teachings should help me succeed, though. I'll finally be able to prove that a ninja doesn't need ninjutsu in order to be strong. He thought to himself as he watched everyone.

 

Akarui seemed uninterested in the competition itself. Instead, she was focused on surviving the match. She had no doubts about her own skill, but she knew nothing about everyone there aside from Ryuichi and Shogo. Even then, she barely knew the two. Teamwork wasn't really her thing. To her, the only point in this competition was getting others to acknowledge her.

Meanwhile, Hikari returned to her own team. "Heh, I knew you'd win!" Koukon greeted her as she walked up to him.

 

"R-really?" She asked, slightly blushing. "Thanks..."

 

"Yeah! What was that you and your brother were talking about after the match, though...? I can't even think of the last time I saw you two get along..." Koukon asked.

 

"N-nothing! Nothing important." She looked away.

Kiniku

 

"Looks like you gave the squirt a good roughing up. You're a shoo-in for a Chunin, Hyugamaki," Kiniku said with congratulations.

"You think so?" Hikari asked, becoming more embarrassed by her teammates' praise. She was too embarrassed to even get mad at Kiniku for using his dumb nickname for her.

 

"Yeah, of course you are!" Koukon agreed with Kiniku. "You're really tough. Maybe one day, you can be as tough as I am." He joked.

Kiniku

 

"I think you mean as tough as I am, String Bean. I'm still the best of our team after all," Kiniku bragged.

"No way, Kiniku! I'm way better than you are!" Koukon argued with Kiniku.

 

Hikari watched the two argue, and smiled. They do get really annoying sometimes... But it beats having boring teammates.

 

What are you so happy about, Hikari?" Koukon asked his friend, now curious.

 

"Um... Th-the fact that you think you're stronger than Kiniku. You're the laziest person from our class, Koukon." She said, trying to make him less curious.

 

 

Before Koukon could protest, the announcer called out two more names. "Nibai Yaiba and Ryuichi Lee!"

 

"Nibai... Isn't he that one quiet kid who uses swords? He's going against Bushy Brows? This should be interesting... Both are short range fighters." Koukon observed.

 

Nibai began to step down to the arena. He didn't have much to say, he just wanted to prove his talents and become a chunin. He stood in the center of the arena, and waited for Ryuichi to arrive.

Ryuichi / Shogo

 

As soon as Ryuichi heard his name be called, he started cheering and punching and kicking the air.

 

"Yes! It is finally my turn! I knew that anticipating that I would not be next would help determine that I would be next! I have fooled everybody!" Ryuichi cried victoriously.

 

"Nobody was rooting against you..." Shogo said under his breath, Ryuichi already taking his place on the stage.

 

"Nibai, is it? Let us both have an exciting match!" Ryuichi said, getting into his trademark taijutsu stance.

Ryuichi / Shogo

 

As soon as Ryuichi heard his name be called, he started cheering and punching and kicking the air.

Akarui looked irritated by Ryuichi's sudden burst of energy. Idiot... No one cared when you'd have your fight. She thought to herself as her teammate ran to the center of the arena.

 

Nibai nodded. "Yes, let's not disappoint everyone watching us." He agreed, and unsheathed his blades. The blades both began to glow yellow, reflecting the Lightning style chakra that was now powering them both.

 

"Begin!" The announcer called, and the crowd was silenced.

 

Nibai decided to make the first move. He ran towards Ryuichi, and slashed at his opponent's arms. I won't cut them off, but if I can at least do some damage to them, I think that would help. He looks like a taijutsu user.

Ryuichi

 

Lee saw Nibai's blades aim for his arms, swaying right and left to dodge his strikes. Finding a window, he backflipped back and got some distance between the two.

 

Those swords he is using are dangerous. I have to find a way to get them away from Nibai. The question is... how? Ryuichi thought.

Nibai studied his opponent, surprised by his speed. He'll be difficult to hit... I'll need to pick up my pace. He sprinted towards Ryuichi once again, and slashed his sword at his opponent once again.

Now is my chance!

 

Ryuichi dodged Nibai's blade, and using his open guard to take the change to kick his swords out of his hands.

 

"Now let us see how you fight with only your bare hands!" He cried, attacking Nibai will well aimed punches and kicks.

Nibai was surprised when he quickly lost his swords, but he managed to remain composed. Fujiri Sensei had made certain to teach him how to adapt in battle. Nibai attempted to block Ryuichi's hits, although he was unable to do so for many of them. He began to back up in the direction his swords had landed, hoping to pick them back up and counter Ryuichi.

Ryuichi

 

Jumping over Nibai, the green clad youth took note of the swords behind him. I must keep these under my watch!

 

Ryuichi delivered a kick that sent Nibai back and then quickly picked up the swords and strapped them to his back. "Now if you want your swords, you had best put up a good fight without them first!" Ryuichi said.
