Echoes and Ash: The Dust Settles

Posted

Hello everyone, it’s been a bit since I wrote something in this format or originally at all except in Roleplay. Well, technically it’s not an original idea. If you recognize the title, or not, this comes from a Roleplay by basically the same name (Echoes and Ash) by MDSVeritas, Like all RP’s, things plum went wrong in the way the plot went about. and a lot of people had to drop out or the like. It got messy is the best way to explain it. So, I felt that since it is my favorite RP to date, and that it doesn't have a much more streamlined plot written by one person in a completely perfected way, I figured I would give it a shot and write the RP up in a story-style format.

Although I will stick to the characters as much as humanly possible, certain events do require reworking to improve/fix issues that were apparent at the time which were made by human error, and as such some of the story will be changed, but the core of the plot will remain the same, don’t worry about it. As for issues revolving characters, anyone who dropped out early game will not be written in for streamlining reasons, any character’s who disappeared or their controller's left later in the story will be killed off around time of disappearance otherwise. As I don’t know everyone’s character’s to a T, I will also likely make mistakes in personalities. Please pardon me on that, I’m far from perfect.

Next and finally, I will be writing this with a section system that is easy to search. If you use the search function on your browser (Most computer browsers use Ctrl+F for search functions) all you will have to do is type //Chapeternumber(i.e., Chapter 1);Section(i.e.I) (Should look like this: //1;I) And will be numbered with standard numbers then roman numerals. There will be three chapters(I believe, will depend on how I feel it should be split up at) written and likely 4 sections in each, or so. (Just for those who participated:(Don't read if you don't want to feel like something was spoiled for you at all)

when this is finished, the Blood Beaker scene (As I like to call it, anyway, you all should be able to figure out what this infamous moment in the story was by those key words anyway) will likely be in Chapter 3 section III

)

As well as a few paralogues and side stories I write in just for my own pleasure and can only be considered canon in this telling. The Prologue and Epilogue will be done with the search function //Log;1 for Prologue and //Log;2 for Epilogue, and are separate from the main story arcs.

Anyway, with that out of the way, the next post with the Prologue will be written and posted soon. Hang onto your stasis pod, here we go.

Of course, the one thing stopping me is an inability to find one person's last posting place that I don't even recall being in the RP...

As far as I am going to say, the person dropped out at page 12. If I see another post by them, it's being ignored, and it doesn't appear they did anything significant, so yeah...

{The first part of our story comes directly from the Sign-Ups and first page of the RP. Credit to: MDS for writing this section. There are a few lines I have added in to artificially increase the drama, and are only cannon to this version, be advised}

A soft wind brushed the land of this island which we found ourselves on today. Lapping waves, rustling trees, a cool wind… No more land for as far as even a good spyglass could see, as the gentle breeze swept the near-empty land we clung to now. A tropical island, right in the middle of no where, and much like this island, the rest of the world which we knew of was no more than an empty place. Life which did exist decayed unto it’s end, The beach, once filled with the screams of people on surfboards, the laughter of people, was silent. Not a speck of life as we know it was here. Over the remnants of civilization, broken ships and other man-made tools of war, this breeze moved, and with it, life was as well moved back into this quiet place. Today the faces of a few fortunate people came back to this world. But what world was it they had came back to..?

Chapter One: CryoCrisis

{I apologize for not having these out when I said I would. Health and scheduling just didn't allow for it it, and then I forgot about this for a bit, and remembered recently and got this sort of done. As a bit of a bonus for anyone who was waiting to see this, I've posted the first three sections (Introductory sections to our teams) and will be working on the next part (Following up on the team with the green voice) soon! ...At least I hope xD}

//1:I : A Child’s Wonder and a Guardian's confusion

C’mon, get up!

Deep within the forest, past the lush, green, foliage, stood a building. A building that was no more than a shambled hut, some old, rusted Jeeps which were many years past prime sat engineless near the decrepit, overgrown building, barely any light getting to this place as all the foliage from the multitude of plants and trees that had grown in the area shielded. Mushrooms had grown where a path had once been, but now was no more than some old stones set in the dirt.

The darkness of this room held four strangers, who would be part of the beginning of a new humanity.

The first to awaken was a man with short, brown hair, in about his late twenties. His bulkier body took a moment, moving to stand up, though he found it a slight challenge, in part by his heavier gear. “Where on Earth is this? Wasn’t I guarding some stasis pods?” He wondered aloud, looking around at the run-down building. Three others, flat on their faces, laid in the dusty, ramshackled room. The other three quickly came to as well, one, a girl with pristine white skin and pure black hair and eyes to match and what looked like a school-girl’s uniform on, her hair was long and she looked young and innocent.

On the flip-side, a much older, much taller female with brown hair and a look about her that made one feel like she had seen the cruelest parts of life, but she wasn’t that old, maybe twenty or so, dressed in a skirt and rifle-armored top, they were older-looking service women combat items. She had a serious air to her and wore her hair long, but much shorter in comparison to the younger girl, but from his angle he could barely see her face.

And finally, a boy who looked similar in age to the younger girl with purplish-brown hair, red and black chokers that looked like a dog’s collar, a black leather jacket with red shirt and black jeans that held chains and silver facets all over it. His hair was long for a boy’s, but not by much, but besides his hair and the chokers, his face was completely out of his line of sight.

The man in the heavier gear checked around, managing to look at the faces of the others now a little more clearly, the soldier-woman had slightly stronger facial features than the average, but wasn’t unpleasing to look at with near black-brown eyes to match her equally dark hair, and the boy had red eyes but a very generic looking face. If you took away his hair color and his outlandish style, he would have blended in anywhere. This is when the man began to recall their identities, for they were who he was tasked with guarding. As he had been guarding them, he had access to and read through their files.

The older female was named Rija Mors, the younger male was named Henko Tenioenai, the younger female was Rin Nozomi, they all lead some interesting lives before being frozen. Regardless, he was concerned about the fact that none of them had seen him before, but before that feeling could set in, he went to check the doors, Rija did the same: the instinct came with their training. The man with the heavier items still thought over the situation, however. “Why am I not in the room I was guarding? What’s happened? I hope none of these people are paranoid… They will be a struggle to deal with if they are…”

//1:II : A Woman’s Calculation and the rebirth of a Angel

{Please note: the woman in this segment’s appearance has been changed due to a lack of a working image/written description of what she looked like originally, and she is likely not the same in appearance as she was in the original, be warned. Saber Lilly, her owner, gave me a new appearance to work on and as such I am going with what I have.}

All of you, wake up.

The first to awake was a young man, dark skinned and even darker haired, his black mop had sand of the beach which he had lies on caked in at this point, only a good and long washing would even get close to cleaning it all out now. His red jacket and white pants, much to his displeasure were also covered in sand, and his face, which was somewhat angular, was very graciously left alone.. As he sat up, the first question wasn’t what any normal person would have asked themselves of “How did I get to this location?”, but rather “Who are these people who are next to me?”. Moments later, however, this rhetorical question was not answered by normal means, but by the screaming of the young woman whom had been lying next to him. She began thrashing about, resulting in her kicking a hermit crab onto the body of another frozen person.

He was clearly awake, his eyes were surprisingly open and calm-looking,  however his body was still relatively encased in ice. With some struggle, his eyes moved over to where the crab landed, it had cracked the ice on his wrist and gave him some form of movement he could do finally, if it were only his wrist being able to be rotated around. After the crab had scuttled away, the woman managed to pull herself together as the man in ice kept grinding the broken part of the ice he was trapped in down. He had already made about a snow-cone’s worth of ice on the floor at this point.

The man encased in ice was no help, of course. He was barely visible in the cloudy crystal he was residing in, but the boy could clearly make out that he had black hair and black eyes, this, and that he was very tall...

Now that she had calmed herself, her appearance was more distinct rather than that of a motion blur. She had incredibly long, flowing, pink hair with cyan-blue eyes, her face was gentle-looking and smoothly cut. She wore a sort of very short pink top that exposed her midriff and a skirt that went down to her knees, the top was held together via ribbons and had slightly long sleeves that resembled a Kimono’s in shape. And though her appearance was soft, though she looked like she might be more lady like,  she uttered these simple words:

“Where in hell’s seventh circle am I?!” Plain and simple.

The boy was in utter shock at the events that had unfolded before them. Quite literally, he woke up on a beach with two random people, one encased in ice but very much alive, the other had had a seizure upon her waking up and the other literally opened the lines of conversation with the words “Hell’s seventh circle”.

However, the man in the ice made what sounded like some strange tapping sounds… However, they couldn’t be interpreted him as saying something, if he were.

{If they were put into morse code, they would look roughly like this:

.-- . .-. .  --- -.  .-  -... . .- -.-. ....  .- -. -..   -.-- --- ..- .-. .  .- .--. .--. .- .-. . -. - .-.. -.--  .-  .-.. .. - - .-.. .  -.. ..- .-.. .-..  -... ..- -  - .... . -.  .- --. .- .. -.  .-- .... . -.  .-- .  ..-. .. .-. ... -  .-- .- -.- .  ..- .--.  .-- .  .- .-.. .-..  -. . . -..  .-   -.-. ..- .--.  --- ..-.   -.-. --- ..-. ..-. . .  .. ..-.   -.-- --- ..-  -.. .. --.  -- .  --- ..- -  --- ..-.  - .... .. ...  .. -.-. .  .. .-.. .-..  .-- --- .-. -.-  --- -.  --. . - - .. -. --.  ... --- -- .  ..-. --- .-.  ..- …}

//1:III A Man’s Desires and a Scientists’ disorientation.

"Rise and shine, it's a new day."

Light between leaves, though the leaves were dense and the light not too strong, was enough to pry any sleeping body to dreaded awareness.However, the man who rose was none other than a scientist, though not very well known, was known well enough for his name to be quite familiar to the tongue of some people, his name was Ferro al’Vere. The man stared at his surroundings, his body feeling frigid as it rose, a gust of wind pushed him around a little as he attempted to stand, which he did so successfully. “God… Where am I? And why am I so cold.. I was working on the D-Project late last night and… I remember… Cryostasis? Was I put in Cryostasis? And if so… How…?” He wondered to himself. The wide area of what looked like a military flight installation, but it had been unused and uninhabited for some time now, so much so that vegetation had begun growing over it, trees had sprouted on the runway, grass grew in every crack it could.

The harsh winds were the only sounds in the area, and there wasn’t much light for him to see with, but with the scanner implant in his brain, he was able to render a sort-of map in his head of the area. Not much, old, rusted parts, trees, the norm… Save for no animals at all. His arms began to tense, his hand reached for the other in which he held his D-ppendage. A sigh of relief, even in this odd place, he still had his trusty tool. He scanned again for signs of life, however something came back to the scanner this time. It was only one object, and it was human.

With this, Ferro checked his legs- His fall-assist boots were still on, handy tools when falling at great speeds, or even when you weren’t too steady on your feet. WIth this, he stumbled towards the life sign.

On the other side of the air strip, a young man woke up to the same freezing cold, but it didn’t seem to bother him as much. He stood up, stumbling and falling a few times prior to this, whatever had happened affected his ability to even stand or balance. Even once he stood, his body tried to quench its thirst for air; but instead he felt a sharp, sudden pain in his throat and began coughing and hacking, his lungs were struggling a little and he felt like he hadn’t drank anything in a very long time. He looked at both of the buildings the strip was made of, one, which he had been closer to, looked overrun with plants and unsafe to even look at, the other which was farther from him looked better from that distance, so he moved towards it. “This seems like a military institution… Airfield? No… Too small for an Airfield, maybe just an air strip, and with how humid it is… Either we’re in the tropics or on an island…” He thought to himself.

His light brown hair was knocked around in the breeze, and his glasses being perpetually pulled down off of his face. His purple long-sleeve probably helped to keep his body from getting too cold, and his matching purple pants probably helped as well, but being that badly unbalanced meant that no matter how warm you were, you were pushed over. A lot.

Meanwhile, Ferro walked along as best he could. His short, more thin head of hair matched the color of his brown eyes, he wore his testing jumpsuit, which now had managed to start absorbing his heat and was able to keep him somewhat warm, but his sort of lanky, thin body was barely able to make enough heat to do just about anything. He kept moving forward, towards the person, in hopes that they might have a better clue as to what was going on.

//1;IV Children's Playthings.

So, now, the room was filled with a lively group of people, their silence was quite the show of excitement. It wasn't until everyone had scanned the black-haired girl over did anything happen, and it was worse than our Guardsman was hoping anyone in the cabin would be. She ran into the corner, hiding away from everyone else, the boy had, in the burst of the commotion, ran out of the room, going on about being "finally free", and the soldier lady had gone quite to try and process the situation some more. Overall, this was a train wreck, and nothing was helping with how quickly it degraded.

Silence overtook the cabin as our Guardsman stared awkwardly around the area, until the black hair girl exited as well, mumbling something about looking over the area. His stance shifted, his gaze around, he wasn't exactly sure what to say, until a siren had came into the picture.

The Guardsman ran out immediately, putting himself between the sound and the younger girl. "Go back in and get the woman in there, I'll handle what's out here." She didn't argue, his authoritative tone could whip most anyone into shape, however, the boy who had ran out before wasn't just anyone, and that could be understood as he ran out of the forest, accompanied by old World War II-era German tanks- The Panzer.

"Not free! Not free! This is definitely a prison camp and I am not OK with that!"

By this time, the black haired girl had returned to the outside with the military woman, and the boy, who it could now be seen that he had some sort of strange gloves. "So, any ideas my rushed-to-compadres?"
