Incredible pictures have emerged of what appears to be the previously mythical SNES PlayStation console that was made by Sony for Nintendo but was never put into production. Uploaded onto the Assembler Games forum by user 'Dnldbld', the images show the ultra-rare console, its controller and even a games cartridge.

Sony built a limited number of the prototype console however it was thought that none had survived after Nintendo famously turned its back on Sony and opted for Philips instead. (Which made the worst Nintendo games in existence that made Nintendo to never be the same again.)

Sony would have its happy day by creating the stand-alone PlayStation system, a best-selling console which would end Nintendo's dominance of the industry and establish the brand for years to come. (Which that left Nintendo in the dust to rot.)

The owner says that he got the machine from his father:

"My dad worked for a company, apparently one of the guys he used to work with, I think his name was Olaf, used to work at Nintendo and when my dads company went bankrupt, my dad found it in a box of "junk" he was supposed to throw out."

Luckily for us, he posted a video for the world to see.

Apparently, the rare console has cartridge with it too. While the video doesn't show gameplay, he showed us the specs of the console. Hopefully he shows us gameplay in the next video. What do you think? Do you think it's fake or real?

Looks legit. Fascinating to see what could've been a great decision for Nintendo.

Seeing the Sony and PlayStation logos on the SNES controller is a strange feeling... It's funny to think about how different the industry would be now if the partnership had gone through. Haven't seen the video yet, but I'll be sure to watch it soon. I'd love to have one of these, although I'm not going to put down a ton of money to get one through eBay. xD
