What happened to the ALIEN franchise?!

Posted

Alien was a massive sucess. It gave birth to a whole new type of movies!

Aliens was another massive sucess, proving that sequels can sometime be as good as the originals. Ridley Scott and James Cameron shared no grudges. They're actually friends. Ridley Scott enjoyed the idea of a Queen and the relationship between Newt and Rilpley and James Cameron was really happy when he got the chance of directing the sequel; he always loved the first movie. (Funny how he managed to create the sequel in only 10 months while having a low budget and some problems with the cast, except for Weaver.)

And well.. after the amazing sequel, everything fell apart. Alien 3's original idea was going to be awesome. The survivors of what happened during Aliens were going to arrive Earth... with a little surprise. We can all agree that David Fincher is also an amazing director, but thanks to budget, script and time issues, the movie turned out to be an absolute crap. FOX forced the producers to re-write the scripts over and over and over until they started to run out of time... and money. They didn't even get the xenomorph right! You can see green lines around its body as it moves awkwardly!  Even Ridley Scott was going to help the movie out, but FOX told him and Sigourney Weaver(Ripley) the plans they had stored for the franchise in a near future. "In fact, Ridley Scott was about to direct a third one, until this(AvsP) was announced, and he dropped out." - Sigourney Weaver.

James Cameron saw the third movie as a slap on his and the fan's face. They killed off three fan-favorite characters and replaced them with comic-relief dumb ones! It's like everything he worked so hard on the sequel was for nothing. Like Ripley went through hell just to fail in the end!

Then the fourth movie came... sigh...

When Sigourney Weaver was asked at London Film and Comic-Con if it was her decision to have Ripley killed off in Alien 3, Weaver said: "Well, yes – because I heard that FOX was gonna do Alien vs. Predator. Which really depressed me because I was very proud of the movies."

James Cameron and Ridley Scott wanted to create the fith film and fix all of the problems that the third and fourth film had brough to the franchise, but FOX denied them that right and got rid of James Cameron because he kept telling them the idea of making an Alien Vs. Predator was bad. Poor Ridley Scott only got his chance to touch on his Alien franchise on 2012 with Prometheus. Prometheus also suffered a lot in FOX's hands. Because of FOX, many scenes and scripts had to be scratched out. Many of the so called plot-holes were answered in the script and in some of the deleted scenes...

Early this year a group of filmmakers wanted to make a sequel to Aliens, starring a new actress and Newt's actress as well. Once they started production, FOX sent them a letter stating that they should stop or else they'd be sued.

Ridley Scott also confirmed that the sequel for Prometheus won't feature any xenomorphs.

It's like FOX doesn't want a good movie!

Let's all hope that the upcoming Alien 5 won't be as bad as the rest.

A side note here, the Alien franchise never had ONE decent game until last year with Alien: Isolation, which for some reason, received either great or terrible(*cough IGN *cough*) reviews. Even though it sold over one million copies, SEGA isn't planning the obvious sequel for some reason.

Alien 3 wasn't that bad, but Ripley dying was a bummer. And Resurrection is watchable, but off somehow: like it's everything you know from the other's slanted in the wrong direction.

Prometheus was... interesting. As in a highly interesting train wreck, until the not very surprising surprise ending.

Let's hope Alien dies on a high note, and doesn't degrade itself by trying to make a comeback, like a certain terminator keeps on doing.

(Looking at you Arnold.)

I rather liked Alien 3, and the director's cut makes it even better.

If we're splitting hairs here; I like "Aliens", but I hate what it did to the Xenomorph itself, especially after how it was represented in the first movie.

The Queen B***h was pretty impressive, though

Isn't the next Alien film supposed to have Ripley? :P

Impressive, but unnecessary.  I don't like that they're bugs now.

Still impressive.

Wait, are they bugs? When did that happen?

The Xenomorph is basically a space bug since Aliens came out.
