I know this is really a question I should probably address to the Apple support forum, but thought a lot of you are very computer savvy and might know the answer to this question. I have a MacBook Air which I believe is an early 2008. It has 2 GB of RAM and is running on Snow Leopard (I think it is version 10.6.8). I started having problems earlier this year with being unable to upgrade Safari, along with other things no longer being supported because my browser is outdated. Apple stopped supporting Snow Leopard about a year ago or so, and my computer is unable to upgrade to the latest OS (Yosemite) because it is too old.
I'm trying to figure out if I should upgrade to Lion--the newest OS for Macs that my computer can upgrade to--or if I should just get a new browser such as Firefox and forget Safari. I'm also concerned about security patches since I don't think those are being provided for Snow Leopard anymore either, so I'm at a bit of a loss. I was all ready to upgrade to Lion until I heard that it runs much slower on older Macs and that it's really not necessary for everyday use, especially since Apple stopped supporting Lion just a short while ago as well.
What do you guys think? Should I upgrade the operating system to Lion and solve part of my problems, or do you think I should just stop using Safari and download a new Internet browser to solve some of my Internet problems? The majority of issues I'm having is that my Safari browser is outdated, which I can't upgrade because my operating system is too old.
