In the far distant future an era of war awaits. As always in history it is "democracy" vs "dictatorship" and who is in the right? The war is split between the following factions:
-The Galactic Empire was an absolute monarchy with the Kaiser in theory wielding unlimited power. In practice, the Kaiser's power was constrained by the power of the nobility, who were often responsible for the Kaiser gaining the throne and who also posed a threat of revolt or assassination. As the nobility tightened its grip on Imperial power, they gradually abolished the process of promotion. In the earliest years of the Empire, common citizens who sufficiently proved their value or ability could be elevated to the ranks of nobility (or even purchase a noble title, should their own merits prove insufficient). This process of promotion allowed for a degree of upward social mobility in Imperial society, giving hope to even the lowest social classes that, through hard work, they could make a better life for themselves. Naturally, the high nobles were wary of any competition, and within a century, such hopes were futile. Imperial society — art, politics, literature, and music — entered a long period of stagnation when the aristocracy almost ceased the practice of 'ascending' regular citizens into their ranks entirely.
-From 527 UC to 640 UC, the Free Planets Alliance was a strong, idealistic democracy. However, after over 150 years of war with the Galactic Empire, the Alliance government slowly became corrupt. The republican ideals of Arle Heinessen and the exiles were eventually abandoned in favour of a militaristic government, devoted fully to the annihilation of the Galactic Empire and the 'liberation' of the Empire's citizens, while the politicians enriched themselves at the public's expense. Those politicians which remained faithful to the founding ideals of the government and who took their duties of public service seriously were for the most part sidelined in low ranking government positions and incapable of influencing major policy decisions.
-The Dominion of Fezzan was founded in 682 UC by Leopold Laap, the first Fezzani Landsherr. A merchant from Terra, Laap lobbied the Imperial government passionately for Fezzan's autonomy, and he eventually succeeded in transforming Fezzan into a mostly-independent subject state of the Empire: owing fealty to the Kaiser in theory, but fully autonomous in practice. With its complete and total monopoly on all trade between the Alliance and the Empire, the small Dominion of Fezzan quickly became an economic superpower, and by 798 UC wielded immense financial influence over both the Galactic Empire and the Free Planets Alliance.
The current year is 798 UC and there has come to a turning point. The empire has obtained a leader Reinhard von Lohengramm who has begin outstanding advances into alliance territory. His strategic decisions have forced victories in several battles most recent of which Astarte. Now the empire has given him the rank of high admiral and with this given the alliance a new worry. But hope is not yet lost. The free planets alliance also has a talented hero by the name of Yang Wen-li A fleet commander on the opposite side. Who will you chose?
As you have probably guessed you will decide on a roll whether it be a common soldier or a strategist. For the purposes of this RP the roles of both will be tied to each other very closely. For the strategists there will be more work in the form of mapping out unit routes and overall command will be placed on them. The battles will more closely resemble naval battles and the vast majority will take place in space. I will give an example of what the strategists work will look like:
Character sheet:
Name: Gender: Age: (15 is the minimum for the empire and 16 for the alliance) Appearance: Personality: Background: Facttion: Alliance/Empire (Fezzan is off limits) role: strategist/soldier Flagship: (if strategist) area of expertise: (if soldier)
rules: 1. no controlling or killing other characters unless the original owner is absent for longer than three to four days 2. blood and gore should be kept to a minimum 3. have flaws there is no such thing as perfection 4. no characters that have a past along the lines of "Not much is known about his/her past." 5. Strategists must be present as often as possible and put some effort in what they plan 6. Soldiers are encouraged to make their own micromanagement tactics and even disobey orders should they deem necessary. 7. if you are a member of the alliance write "For the alliance!" at the character sheet. 8. No reproducing via sexuality. 9. Swearing will be punished via a strike system. Swearing is allowed but not more than 5 times in 3 posts. Should you exceed that limit you will receive a warning. Upon the third warning your character will die somehow and you will no longer be participating. 10. If you side with the galactic empire write "Hail the kaiser!" at the end of your character sheet. 11. soldiers are not killing machines. Do not god 12. No god moding. If a strategist makes a plan and the opposing person (if any) says it's god moding that is not so. If a strategy is well made and leaves no gaps then i say "Praise to the strategist." 13. Try to stay active. 14. Enjoy yourself.
My character sheets:
Name: Reinhard von Lhoengramm Gender: male Age: 21 Appearance: Personality: A magnificent bastard any way you look. He is a chess master that would put Lealuche to shame (had to make this refference). He is cold and a master of manipulation. Aside from that he is very protective of his sister and the select few he views as friends. Background: As a child, Reinhard met the man whom he would later declare another part of himself: Siegfried Kircheis. The young Reinhard felt the name "Siegfried" was too common, and insisted on calling Siegfried by his surname, Kircheis. He would retain his habit of using Kircheis' surname, despite their close relationship, for the rest of his life. In many ways, Reinhard's life was defined by the strong relationships he formed with his sister and friend in those happy days. Unfortunately, those days were not to last and Reinhard was rudely exposed to the Galactic Empire's true nature in 786 UC. One day, a high nobleman happened to see Reinhard's sister Annerose in the street, and took notice of her. Shortly thereafter, rumors of her exceptional beauty reached the Imperial Court. It was then decided that she would be brought to the Imperial Palace to serve as an imperial consort to the emperor—Kaiser Friedrich IV. Reinhard's father accepted a large sum of money as a dowry in exchange for effectively selling his daughter into a life of sexual servitude. He chose to accept the money, because he reasoned that even if he refused the payment Annerose would be taken away regardless. Already weak to alcohol since the death of his wife, Sebastian retreated further into the bottle after Annerose was taken. Reflecting on Sebastian's life after his death, Siegfriend thought perhaps he was never able to forgive himself for failing to protect his daughter. When Reinhard realised what his father had done, he was enraged. He angrily swore to destroy the corrupt, capricious Goldenbaum Dynasty and rescue his sister from the clutches of Kaiser Friedrich IV. Together, he and Kircheis promised to defeat every enemy and win every battle in pursuit of that goal. Facttion: Empire role: strategist Flagship: Brunhilde
Name: Yang Wen-Li Gender: male Age: 30 Appearance: Personality: Most of the time he can be described as lazy and easygoing. He is also useless from the neck down as he has absolutely no skill with guns or machinery but what is from the neck up is quite possible a mind to rival Lohengramm. Background:Yang Wen-li was born in 767 UC to a civilian merchant family. He was raised largely by his father, Yang Tai-long, as his mother died when he was just five years old. Yang spent most of his childhood aboard his father's interstellar trade ship, plying the star lanes between Heinessen and Fezzan. At the age of 16, Yang Tai-long reluctantly gave his son permission to study history. His father soon passed away after an accident, leaving his ship and heavily mortgaged shipping company to be repossessed by lenders, and it was discovered that his father's artwork collection consisted of entirely of fakes. Yang Wen-li was left penniless and was unable to attend Heinessen Memorial University as he had originally planned. He thus enrolled himself in a military academy in order to further his education. Yang studied in the War History Studies Department of the Free Planets Alliance Officer Academy with the intention of becoming a historian; his tuition fees would be waived, however, on the condition that he enter into military service upon graduation. While Yang was still in school, however, the War History Studies Department was dissolved, forcing Yang to transfer to the Strategic Studies Department. As a student, Yang described himself as being always on the verge of flunking out. Although this gave him the appearance of an officer of average talent – he graduated right in the middle of the Class of 787 – his grades reflected his lack of interest rather than his academic abilities. Facttion: Alliance role: strategist Flagship:Hyperion
Name: Wilhelm von Bishopshofen (nicknamed White-shield Will) Gender: male Age: 19 Appearance: Personality: Serious and calculating Will is a very cautious individual. He is for the most part noble and honorable but when situation calls for it all morals are thrown away for the greater good. He is not particularly fond of Reinhard but does not oppose him doe to the fact his family is on planet Odin and to change lords is a death sentence for them. Background: Wilhelm was born into a medium ranking noble family who steadily declined in finances and political influence until the point they were only nobles on paper. early on his carrer was supposed to be politics but as the situation got worse he was put into care of the Braunschweig family with whom his father had connections. As a result he was looked down upon by most of the royal court. To prove useful to Braunschweig Wilhelm was put to be a cabin boy in one of the prince's conquests. Unfortunately the fleet sent to subdue a rebellion was ambushed by said rebellion and was forced to fight back. Here is where his tactical prowess first shined. At the early age of 12 he led a the fleet from the flagship due to the prince being in a drunken state. It was a complete and utter victory. By the time he was 15 he had already begun serving as a assistant aboard what he called "the most insignificant ship in history." who were en route to Fezzan. Much to his luck an alliance force tried to make their way sneaking through said system. The numbers were roughly 7000 against 800 ships. This is where he earned the nickname as his formation and defensive tactics stalled for a whole five days. This was when a imperial fleet came to his aid and thus subdued the enemy. After this event he gained a position in the admiralty but was only kept there as a decoration until he was 18 and his assistance was enlisted by Reinhard von Lohengram.
