uhmm well idk how rare this is but.... one time i randomly decided to check my pokemon diamond since it was collecting dust... and like 5 mins in i encounter a shiny ponyta! caught it and its sadly my only shiny to date..... (not counting events, ingame given shinies ex: red gyrados)
