Actually I do agree that Riku realises it on a deeper level tbf but I think we assume from day one how important Riku and Sora are to each other

I honestly didn't see Soriku in it as much as them thinking something was new or a revelation when it isn't

I read it as them saying Riku realises protecting Sora is his true calling But I would argue that is just obvious
