The flashback against the dragon is effective because Sephiroth is a powerhouse lv50 with high level back who downs the dragon and Cloud scrubs out in the fight It establishes him as dangerous Now he's just a punk who we already dabbed on

I don't like how we've beaten him already. Why should we now take him as a serious threat if we've kicked him and fates ass before even stepping a foot outside Midgar

You don't actually even see the real him until the Goblet of Fire

That's all I have an issue with, if they insist on showing him so much, at least explain to new players why he's even a thing. It's ok for us who have played the original but there's new players too

They never explained his association with Cloud. In happens in Kalm in the original, where Cloud shows us the flashback against the Dragon. But here they make no explanation as to why he stalks Cloud. And no seeing a picture of Sephiroth in the media before or hearing his name isn't an explanation

Just because they know of him doesn't mean they know anything to do with him plotwise

The narrative in FF7R doesn't explain jack shit about him which is bad storytelling. If they are insistent on showing him this early they needed to show the Nibelheim incident too and they didn't.

New players have no clue who Sephiroth is

It's definitely suspect that Sephiroth tells Cloud

All story decisions in KH rest with Nomura and I'm sure they wanted to protect their properties, the Disney execs that is, but that's not an excuse to push almost all of the relevant plot into the last tenth of the game, that was on Nomura. The pacing in KH3 hurts it a lot

I have, Nomura had the events of the Keyblade Graveyard happen three seperate times across different timelines, he has time travelling characters out the wazoo, and Sephiroth in FF7 definitely seems to be a timetraveler as he knows a lot more than he should. Even the very first time we see him in Remake he puts his hand on Aeriths shoulder and tells Cloud he can't save anyone.
