They are, yes. Some cards create rooms with tons of enemies, some with none, some with treasure, etc.

To change the room to something else if you need something specific. It's best for grinding things.

I actually prefer gift cards and money over everything else. It lets me just get whatever I want anyways, and I'm otherwise indecisive, so money and cards is best.
