Paper Mario: Color Splash Is Actually...Good?

Posted

So I recently purchased the game  (yup, I was one of those people who decided to buy the game despite all the negative criticism from Nintendo fans that loved Paper Mario 64 and Paper Mario: TTYD and whined that it's not like those two games) and I've gottena  few good hours in the game and I must say...it's...actually a pretty good game. It's actually better than I expected. I mean it STILL doesn't come close to how great both PM64 and TTYD were but it's an alright game. I'm not sure if you consider this an improvement or not but Nintendo at least made battles a bit more worthwhile compared to Sticker Star. The dialogue is actually pretty neat. And Huey, while I thought was going to be Kersti 2.0, actually has a lot more personality than Kersti ever did. Which surprises me. I'm actually surprsed with how much I am enjoying Color Splash. The people who actually got to play this early were right about COlor Splash. It's a bit of a step-up from Sticker STar. Not a huge step-up. But just decent enough to where it's pretty enjoyable despite not having an epic story or interesting battle partners like the first two Paper Mario games had. I'll be putting a review for this sometime after I beat the game and give you my full thoughts on it.

Thing is if the dialog is good I can play it. Stricker Star failed on gameplay and dialog. Color Spalsh semi fixed combat with sort a lv up system and dialog ia vastely improved

Agreed. Not everything was improved (they still need to get rid of the overload of Toads and bring back partners) but it's decent enough to where I can actually enjoy it. The dialogue is actually okay in my book and the art style looks amazing on Wii U.

It's pretty good as a video game, but not as a paper mario game.

This is encouraging to hear.  I'll have to check it out sometime soon. :)  I've always been a huge fan of Paper Mario, and Mario RPGs in general.  I thought Super Paper Mario was pretty good, but I honestly couldn't bring myself to get through Sticker Star.  Would you say that Color Splash bears any similarities to Super Paper Mario?  I doubt that any modern Paper Mario game could compare to the amazingness of Paper Mario 64, as that one was just incredible and had so many good qualities (including some battles actually being a little difficult, something that you can't even envision in the newer games).

I've heard good things about the game,I'm considering buying it,but its probably not worth full price,I'll wait for the price to drop.

Well the only similiarity that Paper Mario: Color Splash did was with that Super Mario bros 3 level. THat was actually a pretty cool and fun level to go through
