I've got one. A couple of years ago when I was still living with my parents, I saw something I still have no acceptable explanation for.

My bedroom was in the basement, and I had my TV and consoles set up in the corner. My bedroom door was on a diagonal across from that corner. On this particular day, my door was open so I could see into the hallway. I was home alone and all the main doors were locked (I checked after this experience). I was playing Xbox when I saw a woman walk past my bedroom door. All she did was walk past; she did not stop, it was literally a second and then she was past my bedroom. There was also no sound, no footsteps, nothing. After a few seconds of nervous alarm, I got up and poked my head out into the hallway, then looked in both directions. No sign of anyone else, although our dog was standing alert and staring at something outside the sliding glass door that looked out to the area under the back deck. I went to check what he was staring at and saw nothing.

As I said before, I checked all the windows and doors and found them all locked. I imagine I'd just been seeing things, but the thing that still bugs me about that experience is this; if I was just seeing things, why did my brain choose to show me that particular woman at that moment in time? I hadn't been playing a scary game at the time, and the woman didn't look familiar (though since I only saw her for a split second, I don't know for sure what she looked like). I remember she had long brown hair and was wearing a white nightgown. I'm not saying it was definitely a ghost, probably just a hallucination. The thing that stumps me is why I saw that woman in particular. I've never had an experience like this before or since, making it even more bizarre.

I'm not a definite believer in ghosts, so I don't insist that I saw one that day. However, I also don't completely disregard the possibility that ghosts exist. There is just as much evidence that they do exist as there is that they don't, so I think it could be either. I guess you could say I'm a skeptic, but an optimistic one.

Anyway, that's my story. Thoughts? :)

Firstly; I would have crapped myself if I was home alone and that happened. Did anything odd ever happen to anyone at that house before or after that happened?

A lot of people believe that animals are more sensitive to that type of stuff. I believe it. We had to have an cleansing once, before we did tho, my dog Zeus would sleep in front of my door (I was the one being effected by what ever was there) He was a good boy.

That was and still is the only occurrence like that  to ever happen in that house. And I grew up in that house, so that was the only event of its kind in 25 years.

That's really weird. You haven't seen a real/living woman that fits that description since then?

I mentioned it to my mom a few weeks ago and she said it might have been my aunt Ginny. She died when I was really little (I think I was only like 5 or 6), so I don't really remember her too well, though I know what she looked like from photos. She's really the only person I can think of who matches the description. My nana had brown hair when she was younger, but she wasn't very tall and she never had long hair.

And it definitely wasn't a real person. There's no way they would have made no noise whatsoever and I should have heard someone opening the sliding glass door or climbing the stairs. Plus I searched the house afterwards and didn't find anything.

Maybe your aunt was checking on you since you were alone? If not that then it could've been a dead person just passing through or a hallucination. Although I don't know why you'd be hallucinating.

Me neither. I've never hallucinated before then or since; that's why I find it so bizarre and why I have so much trouble just accepting that it was just my mind playing tricks on me.

The only other thing that's remotely similar is that I've had some super freaky nightmares. Like freaking the hell out and having to be shaken awake by my boyfriend freaky. But those are pretty rare.

Those could be due to stress or bottled up emotions I think. It could be supernatural, but it probably wasn't.

Just remembered, I've got another one.

My boyfriend and I had just watched Insidious. If you haven't seen that movie, it involves astral projection and is absolutely terrifying.

We went to bed and I woke up some time later to see my boyfriend sitting on the edge of the bed. I asked if he was okay and he didn't answer, but instead slowly stood up and started walking towards the door. I remember I sat up and asked again if he was okay, and then things got freaky.

Because my boyfriend woke up next to me and asked me if I was okay. While I was looking at him standing by the door across the room. Then the version of him standing by the door (basically just a silhouette of a person) turned around and its eyes were glowing and red.

I lost it, started freaking out and crying and he was next to me trying to calm me down. The silhouette disappeared moments later and I started to relax.

Before you say I'm making this up, this story actually has a solid explanation. What I experienced then was a Waking Dream. Basically I was still half asleep and so my mind was showing me images in my dreams while I was semi-conscious, so I was seeing the images from my dreams in the real world.

Still, though. It was absolutely terrifying. I slept in my boyfriend's arms for the next few days because it freaked me out so badly.

Waking dreams are interesting and super creepy. I'm sorry you went through that. I used to see skulls and faces on my ceiling at my old house when I was little my mom had to wake me up fully.

It wasn't the first time I'd had one. It's still hands down the freakiest one I've ever had, though. They are quite an interesting occurrence, though.

I remember having one where my shadow was moving on it's own. At least I hope it was a dream. That house was... interesting.

I had one when I was a kid where there was a giant bug with a human face hovering in front of me. Scared the ever living crap out of me.

I used to have dreams (not waking) that my parents had weird bug heads. I really hate bugs.

Depends on the bug for me. I hate spiders and june bugs. Unfortunately I occasionally have dreams where there's a huge spider crawling on my bed. A lot of the time I start beating at it with my pillow and wake up to find I'm really doing it.

I hate most if not all of them. That's another weird dream thing is waking up to be doing the thing from the dream.

Yeah, that always freaks me out, when I wake up to find that I'm actually hitting the bed with my pillow. Weirdly enough this only ever happens when I'm sleeping alone.

that could have something to do with it. Maybe *puts on doctor glasses* you're subconsciously upset that you're alone and you take it out on the dream bug. :P

Interesting hypothesis. You should be a psychologist. ;)

I might, but I dunno.

From what you described about her dress, usually the color of the dress holds some sort of meaning.  Ladies in white dresses or ladies in white are often associated with rural settings and tragedy.  It is the most well known of the ladies since that's what we think of when we think of ghosts like La Llorona, a lady dressed in white that wanders bodies of water looking for the kids she allegedly drowned.  Of course, they are said to be dangerous.

Then there is the lady in black or the lady in red and more.  According this blog, ladies in red are the more hazardous and are associated with well...just hope this helps.  http://philurbanlegends.blogspot.com/2012/07/white-lady-black-lady-red-lady-and.html

Basically ladies in white equals a tragic death, usually in a rural setting like an abandoned castle.

Ladies in black equals malevolent ghosts either associated with demons/the devil/or black magic that seek to do harm.

Ladies in red equals female ghosts that died a violent death likely sexually related.

I've heard about Women in white, women in black, etc. But I didn't sense any sort of malevolence, really. It was creepy when I saw her, but I didn't feel like my life was in danger or anything. Even the dog didn't seem to be on guard, it was more like he'd noticed something and was focusing on it. But I suppose it could have been a lady in white.

I guess you were really can't judge a ghost based on the color of the dress, right?  Generally, people's gut reaction when they see something or someone that isn't there is to question their very sanity.

Well, I've never had an experience like that before or since. The closest I've come is the waking dreams I mentioned earlier, and those arent a sign of insanity; they're just an uncommon phenomenon that can happen to anyone. So I've never really questions my sanity in regards to that experience. If it was a ghost, I feel like they were just passing through.
