Sora sat on his favorite tree, overviewing the ocean. He was so glad to be home, after over a year's worth of adventure. Sure, he endured the greatest rant that he had ever received from his mom, but in the end, it all worked out. He was now home with his two best friends...

 

For almost an hour, Ven had been training outside. He was greatly determined to be as strong as Terra and Aqua so he, too, can try out to become a Keyblade Master. Finally, he decided to take a break. Dismissing his Keyblade, Ven laid down to catch his breath, observing the starry sky.

 

Roxas and Xion were sitting down on the couch.

"Hey, Xion," Roxas said, "Have you seen Axel? I have a mission with him today."

Shaking her head, Xion answered, "He probably overslept. HHe should be here soon." As an afterthought, she added, "I'm supposed to have a mission with Zexion. What does he look like?" The last part, she whispered embarrassingly.

[Let's go one pairing at a time. My head.. hurtss Dx]

 

"Zexion?" Axel leaned against the brick "wall" that supported the clocktower. Roxas and Xion spun to face their friend. "Ah, emo-ish, blue haired like your usual anime freak, and holding a Lexicon--fancy word for book." Axel added, and walked over to sit beside Roxas.

"The sunset!" Xion exclaimed suddenly. Axel couldn't seem to focus on the beautiful view. His green eyes were naturally drawn to Roxas' hot-- wait, what the hell was he thinking? This was his partner-in-crime and his first friend. He wasn't--he wasn't--anything else.. It was just a silly thought, Axel decided. 'People think things they don't really mean all the time, right? Why is this any different? I need to stop worrying, just like Roxas needs to come "Out of his shell. That kid's gorgeous--" Axel hadn't realized he was speaking aloud. Both Roxas and Xion turned to face him. Axel felt his cheeks heat up to match the red of his flaming hair. He just couldn't keep his stupid mouth SHUT, could he? "Um--um--that--that--tree. Right over there. It's gorgeous."

Roxas cocked his head to the side, staring at the trees in the woods. "Okay...?" he said. To be quite honest, he had no idea which tree Axel was speaking of, but he didn't want to disappoint him, so he played along.

"Well, I guess I should go find Zexion now," Xion proclaimed as she stood up. She was oblivious. She noticed the way that Axel looked at Roxas. Honestly, she even felt a bit jealous, but she easily dismissed that thought. After all, she couldn't feel, right? "Bye, guys," she waved as she left.

"Oh, Axel," Roxas said as he looked at his friend, "we're supposed to have a mission today."

Axel felt his whole outlook brighten. A mission with Roxas? Really!? He shook his head quickly, though, disgusted with himself. He had to keep reminding himself Roxas was just a friend. What would encourage him to think anything else..? Xion looked a little reluctant to leave. Axel almost wanted to yell at her, "WELL ARE YOU GOING TO GO ALREADY!? I WANT TO BE ALONE WITH ROXAS!"

 

Axel, suppresing any expression from appearing on his face, stood, brushing off his dark cloak. "Come on, Roxas," He muttered. "Let's just get to our mission." He didn't mean to sound so grumpy--Roxas actually looked a little hurt, if that was even possible. 'Yeah,' He thought to himself. 'Remember that--it's NOT possible. You're a Nobody. So there's no way you could be in love with..' Axel's thoughts trailed off. In.. in love with?

"The mission should be fairly simple," Roxas explained. "We just have to go check what shenanigans are going on at the manor of this place. You can go ahead and check out that tree of yours on the way there." He threw in his usual grin and chuckle. Roxas was never so sure why he was this open with Axel. Maybe it was a "best friends" thing. He could ask Axel about it later...

Standing up, Roxas held his hand out to Axel, saying with a grin, "Well, let's get going, partner!"
