They weren't really there, it was just for show, just like the Ven and Terra they showed, and the Namine they showed. They only showed those people because they are the ones who's hurting will be mended by Sora. Roxas is in Sora. Xion was completely destroyed and forgotten. And Axel sacrificed himself, though may come back as Lea, his Somebody.

thats right like @the end of re-coded they talk about how if a person's heartless and nobody are defeated they eventually reform and comeback i think the same will happen for axel if he has a heartless, or maybe his heartless will be seen in future games? who knows??

Nomura himself said the Heartless has to be first. Then the heart is released. When the Nobody is defeated, it dissappears and reunites with the heart, bringing the Somebody back. I don't remember what interview he said it was, but I do remember reading it in an interview.
