I've just been thinking and I came up with the thought that KH3D will be set after KH3.

 

I think this because Sora receives the letter from Mickey which prbably is the start for KH3 at the end of Re: Coded, but im not sure if the secret ending is from before or after that moment.

 

Any thoughts?

Nomura has said that 3D is next in the series Chronologically. so no.

Actually, KH3D is going to take place before KH3. But Nomura has stated that KH3D will have ties to KH3 since there's supposed to be an ending that's supposed to be "shocking" and will lead into KH3 as well. Also, the letter that Sora gets from Mickey is to tell him about the people that he has to save and to prepare him for his next journey. Which, in this case, will be KH:DDD.

Nope. Nomura said it himself. The game is a prequel to KH3, and its "shocking" ending will lead directly into it. The only game that will take place after KH3 is KH4, or whatever game starts the next saga.

No. KH3D is when Sora and Riku take the Mark of Mastery exam. They need to be masters before they can face Xehanort and end the saga.
