So for anyone who is waiting for info regarding the highly anticipated Mass Effect 3, the final chapter in the Mass Effect trilogy, I come here with information to sooth your appetite. We get a promo shot, story details, and character info.

 

 

The Story So Far...

 

 

So good ol' Commander Shepard is standing trial on Earth for the events of The Arrival DLC (won't spoil it if you haven't beaten it). During said trial, the sky goes black, and we see this.

 

 

 

 

So upon the realization that we're boned, Shepard high-tails it out of Earth, and must now travel through the galaxy and unite the various alien races in one last ditch attempt to take back Earth, which may be difficult depending on past choices you've made. In addition, Cerberus, the pro-human group who brought Shepard back to life in ME2, is now hunting and trying to kill Shep for unknown reasons.

 

 

Yeah, we're f**ked...

 

 

Gameplay Info

 

 

So as expected, we'll be seeing a LOT of past faces in ME3, but for now, the list of returning characters is relatively small. I'm sure the cast will grow significantly in the near future, but for now, the characters we will be playing as are:

 

 

-Liara

 

-Garrus (hell yeah(if he survived the Suicide Mission))

 

-Either Kaiden or a significantly hotter Ashley, depending on who you chose to live in ME1

 

-James Sanders (?)

 

 

The following characters will also have a role, but may not be playable:

 

 

-Wrex (if you let him live)

 

-Mordin (if he survived the Suicide Mission)

 

-Legion (hell yeah(if he survived the Suicide Mission))

 

-Anderson

 

 

Characters who will be returning as NPCs are:

 

 

-The Illusive Man

 

-Udina

 

 

In terms of gameplay, Bioware is attempting to strike a perfect balance in the RPG elements used, adding customizable armor and weapons. The cover system is apparantly getting tweaked a bit as well. Like before, veteran ME players can import their save data to carry over past choices, and recieve extra bonuses (which will be helpful, as apparantly, ME3 is going to be pretty hard).

i really need to get into the mass effect series, maybe i'll ask for mass effect 2 for my birthday (i'm on PS3, so no mass effect 1 for me.)

No wai, are those melee weapons???

Well apparantly, melee will be far bigger in ME3, and each class will have an exclusive melee attack, so there very well could be.

UPDATE: Here's an interview by Gameinformer with one of the main art guys for Mass Effect. He reveals Garrus' design in ME3, and talks about the difficulty of making a face for Quarians.... and unwittingly may have just confirmed Tali for ME3.

BioWare has announced the release of Extended Cut of Mass Effect 3, a DLC pack free for everyone who purchases the game before April 12 with a release planned for Summer 2012. This new content will provide “additional context and deeper insight to the conclusion of Commander Shepard's journey.

"We are all incredibly proud of Mass Effect 3 and the work done by [Mass Effect series executive producer] Casey Hudson and team. Since launch, we have had time to listen to the feedback from our most passionate fans and we are responding,” said BioWare founder Ray Muzyka. "With theMass Effect 3: Extended Cut we think we have struck a good balance in delivering the answers players are looking for while maintaining the team's artistic vision for the end of this story arc in theMass Effect universe.

However, while this will add something to the endings that exist, BioWare flatly denied that this DLC will change the ending to the game. “BioWare strongly believes in the team's artistic vision for the end of this arc of the Mass Effect franchise,” said the company in a Q&A . “The extended cut DLC will expand on the existing endings, but no further ending DLC is planned.
