In Coded we were introduced to a new aspect of existence being the "mind". Because data can't make actual hearts and their were no orriginal forms for the heartless to return to in the first place, when Sora defeated the heartless he didn't release any hearts; instead he released their minds which his heartless fed on. These were the "dark intentions of the heartless" that it fed on. Now, of course their is always a possibility of any such thing returning to play a larger role later on, but for now, we got nothing.
However, the "mind" actually has been derived from something in the previous games. As it turns out, the mind is the reason that Ansem the wise was sent to the realm of darkness of all places after his Kingdom Hearts encoder exploded. This was not just a coincidence. In encoding kingdom hearts, his machine was completely uncapable of encoding the hearts and exploded because it couldn't process/encode/whatever the hearts. What it could manage to do was just what the data world inside of journal managed to truly encompass. In the journal the mind was completely calculable and renderable for Sora's heartless to feed on. The minds his heartless fed on were the dark intentions of the heartless. Might we now say that the mind that managed to play a role in the explosion was the mind of Kingdom Hearts? After the Keyblade war, Kingdom Hearts literaly fled the realm of light into the realm of darkness. This intention was released in the explosion of the kh encoder. This is yet another example of the an active will of Kingdom Hearts which we might see in the future.
And then what about everyone else's mind...
When talking about how Xehanort the aprentice turned into XH and Xemnas nomura mentioned them functioning on two seperate minds. This brings in a whole new aspect to the minds thats maybe a little more literal than what we explored before, but this proves multiple things: splitting into new beings you can acquire new minds, minds are what we literally function under, and in that how they strived for different goals while being the same beings. So this means that in other situations where they split into different beings they might have acquired a new mind. For example, Terra's lingering will or Roxas. Terra's lingering will makes me think of how a mind is made. Terra's mind continued to exist within Terra, but his thoughts and feelings/emotions created a new and unchanging continuum of Terra's intentions (mind) at that moment. This gives me the impression that the mind is based off of those things just like in the real world we live in. With Roxas, having nothing to begin with, he had no mind or intentions and just did what everyone told him to, and now where is his mind now. Later on with more memories he grew a greater awareness developing his own mind. Data Sora, or realy any of the data inhabitants, could be said to have an identical mind as their original person.
Thinking about the minds, it really came full circle when I realized that minds are just minds. Like what we are functioning under right now. Nothing truly enlightening. Getting around the circle not many new things jumped out either, but it seemed so much easier thinking about how these people deviate from their original persons when talking about their mind as if it was one of the three components that make up a living being.

Anyways, what are your thoughts on it?
