Shattered World (1x1 with khfreaker01)

Posted

"In order to build something new, the old must be torn down. This is true for buildings and so it is true for worlds. Our world was once a thriving industrial world. Now it is a patch work of floating rocks. I tore down our world to fix what needed fixing. If you want to infer that I'm taking about our former society, that's your business. I have thinks to do, people to save and monsters to kill. You want a better world than what is now here, build it yourselves." - Last recorded message from Talmoten Agary, The worlds for most mage and destroyer of the world.

He quickly yelled for everyone to exit the temple. As he ushered the last tourists out, a magic blast over took him and he blacked out. When he awoke, he found himself on the edge of of the now island floating in air. He also found that he had changed. He had blue skin, horns, and more. He later found out he turned that way because of the magical energy. Several other people had mutated where he was and many others were reported around the world. Thom, while trying to figure out what had happened, accidentally threw a Lightning bolt from his hand to a tree. His mother, a scientist at heart, encouraged him to practice. He do so, finding he could do more and more things through magic. Many others also showed ability to use magic. Thom knew he had to do something with this, but what?

(Not a problem. Okay...here we go.)

Thom entered his house and slammed the door. Another dead end. For the past week, he had been trying to figure out what had happen to trigger the magic blast that shattered the world, know now as Dies Irae, but all he could find was here say. Thom took out his note book and leafed through it. One thing that kept coming up was stories of monster attacks before Dies Irae. That didn't make sense. Where did these monsters com from? There weren't any monsters in the age before besides the human versions.

Thom growled and stomped to the kitchen. He found a note on the refrigerator from his mother.

The note read: Thom, Dad and I have gone to Consile to help Uncle Hector plant his crops. We'll be gone for a couple of days. Help your self to any food we've got. Love, Mom.

Thom sighed. At least his parents wouldn't have to deal with him in this bad mood. Deciding he wanted some milk, Thom opened the frige to get some. To his annoyance, there was not even an inch of milk left in the jug. Thom slammed the refrigerator door and glared at it for a couple of seconds.

"Stop fuming and get some more bleepin' milk!" He said angrily to himself.

So, Thom stomped back to the front door, opened it and slammed it behind him as he set out to get more milk.

Airra walked down the street. "Dad said get more supplies for the expiriment." She said as she entered the grocery store. This place had gotten strange ever since she arrived. She sighed. "Well, might as well get the supplies." She said as she hedded up to the counter and handed the cashier the list. "Ahhh Doctor Silver, ill get those right away miss." He said walking off. Airra sighed and leaned against the counter.

Thom entered the grocery store and stomps back to the diary section. Grabbing a jug, he heads back up to the front. He stopped a moment when he saw a girl leaning against the front counter. He had seen her before, but he couldn't place where. Thom forced himself to become calmer. Taking a deep breath, Thom stepped toward the girl. Thom mentally braced himself. While no one had rejected him cause of his new appearance, he did get quite a bit of gasping at first meetings.

"Hi." He said to Airra. "I'm Thom Stone."

Airra looked at the man. "Hello." She said smiling. He looked odd but she was no one to judge. She smiled and made herself look nice. The cashier came back and started ringing up her purchase. "By the Way im Airra Silver, its Very Nice To Meet You Thom." Airra said as she turned to the cashier.

Thom took the name "Airra Silver" and ran it through his brain. It didn't ring any bells in particular, bu the last name did set off a few possibilities.

"Are you related to Dr Silver?" Thom asked Airra.

He had been wanting to get an interview with the scientist to see what he had uncovered about the Blast, but he had been busy of late.

"Yeah everyone knows me by him." Airra said as she payed the cashier and got a huge bag of stuff. "Thanks." She told the cashier. She sighed and held the bag. "Do you need him for something, hes just on a tiny expiriment, but not much." Airra said as she struggled with the bag. She headed for the door.

Thom quickly payed for his milk and followed after Airra.

"I wanted to talk to your father about what he has found about Dies Irae." Thom explained, a little nervous. "I am hoping to figure out what cause the world to shatter."

Thom studied Airra for a moment.

"Where were you when the Blast happened?"

"I dont know if he knows much, hes kind of moved on with his expiriments." Airra said. She sighed and tried to remember. "Well i was coming home from the last day of school, i was headed to my fathers house with supplies andvthen suddenly i saw a flash of light, the blast." Airra said. She took a deep breath and exaled. "But i could take you to him if you'd like." Airra said.

"Thank you." He said.

He followed Airra for a few seconds in silence. He is unsure whether to press on with questions or to stay silent. He was still wondering this when he felt the hairs on the back of his neck stand up. That had started happening after Dies Irae when he got into the presence of a strong magical field. The problem was there wasn't one there before. Something had brought it here. That meant one thing.

"Hold up." Thom told Airra quietly, grabbing her arm.

He glanced around him, wondering where it was hiding.

"We got a mage monster around here."

"M-monster? What do you mean?" Airra asked Confusingly. She looked at Thom, he was seriouse about this. She sifhed. ("What does he mean by monster? Like the one dad was trying to create? Nahh dad couldnt pull that off.") Airra thought. She was a bit confused.

Thom continued to look around. He sniffed the air a few times, trying to figure out where the monster was. What ever it was, it had a lot of magical energy. He felt a buzzing at the base of his spine. Thom's eyes went wide and he tackled Airra to the ground. An instant after that, a blast of fire streaked through where Them and Airra had been. Thom quickly traced the fire ball to its source. A large canine creature growled at the two humans. Smoke poured from it's mouth and parts of its skin looked like armor plating. It's eye's were glowing red with no mercy in them.

"Somebody's pet dog." Thom thought. "Mutated by excess magical radiation."

Thom rolled off of Airra and on to his back. He pulled the Glock he had in a shoulder holster and double tapped the dog's front leg. No need to kill it just yet. The dog yelped in pain, but quickly recovered. Thom cursed.

"I really need to enchant my bullets." He mentally noted.

He stood up and drew his broad sword.

Airra stood up. She sighed. She grabed her bag of things and got up. She dusted herself off. "Your a fighter?" Airra asked. "I havent met many people who carry swords." Airra said as she smiled.

Thom pumped magic energy through his hand into the sword, making it glow.

"Easy to enchant." He commented.

Thom charged the dog and sliced at the creatures legs. One leg is cut into and the other leg received a deep gash. The dog howled in pain. Thom twirled around and stabbed the sword into the dog's heart. The dog fell, twitched a little then lay still. Thom extracted his blade and cleaned it off on the grass.

"Plus it seems more heroic than guns." Thom said casually.

"Yeah, i know." Airra agreed. She sighed and remembered the kitanas she had forged so dilegently. Only they were now in her fathers position. "So should we get goin?" Airra asked Thom.

  • Author

"By all means." Thom said.

He returned his sword to his back and the Glock to it's holster. He walked over to retrieve the milk he had dropped, only to find that it had burst open, spilling it's continence. Thom heaved a sigh as he grabbed the now empty jug. Something to deal with later.

"Like swords?" Thom asked Airra conversationally.

Airra smiled. "Yep. I forged two kitanas myself. There quiet amazing, maybe once my dad decides im good enoigh to have them i can show you." She said with a slight smile. ("Guess dad can wait a little.") Airra thought as she looked at Thom.

Thom nodded appreciatively. He had respect for katanas, though he himself preferred having to edges on his sword. He thought it odd that even though Airra had said she made them, her father had them. That didn't make much sense to Thom. Then again, his father had taught him about weapons from an early age. Other people have different rules.

"I'd like that." Thom said aloud. "Have you done any other forging?"

Airra smiled. "Nahh, i dont have the right equipment for another one." Airra replied. She sighed and comtinued to walk, her bag in hands. She sighed. ("Its been years..") she thought.

  • Author

Thom grunted his understanding.

"Well, with the increased magic levels in the world, people will probably want something they can easily use with their magic." Thom said. "If your good, you could make swords and turn a tidy profit."

Thom was silent for a moment.

"Did you get magic on after the Blast?"

"I dont know.." she replied. "Dad asked me the same question and i just couldnt answer, he said he would check me out you know to see if i do. But he said he highly doubted it, since i didnt change my appearance or anything during the blast." She said as she sighed. "But hes been so caught up in his expiriments he forgot. And when i get the right materials, ill start forging new weapons for sure." Airra replied. As she entered the gate to her house.

Thom raised an eyebrow.

"What's your Dad working on?" He asked.

He followed Airra through the gate and closed it for her.

"Is he trying to figure out what happened too?"

"No hes way over that. He tried thay the day it happened, he didnt quiet know what was happening, so ge never figured it out." She replied. "Hes working on life forms, hes trying to create some weird replicas of the human, but into monster form, sometimes i think hes lost it." Airra replied with a sigh. She opened the door and saw it was empty. She saw a note on the door. It read: 'Airra, went to meeting, go ahead and place the supplies in the lab, be back in a couple hours.' Airra sighed. "Just my luck."

  • Author

Both of Thom's eyebrows were up.

"He is working on life forms?" Thom asked, incredulous. "Sentient life? That's illegal, even after Dies Irea."

Thom might have continued his rant if he didn't hear the floor creak and a muffled moan coming in from what he assumes is the life. He goes quiet and sniffed the air. To many smells to figure out what is in that room. Thom glanced at the note from Airra's father and quickly read it.

"Could he be back already?" Thom asked, keeping his voice low.

"Dont think so, you know you could leave if you want, then whens hes back i cqn call for youn" she said as she switched on the lights. she entered her dads laboratory and went in. She saw some odd looking thing on the table, she gaged silently. She sighed and places the ingredients on the desk. She looked at all the creations and saw her vault of kitanas, she sighed.
