Shattered World (1x1 with khfreaker01)

Posted

"In order to build something new, the old must be torn down. This is true for buildings and so it is true for worlds. Our world was once a thriving industrial world. Now it is a patch work of floating rocks. I tore down our world to fix what needed fixing. If you want to infer that I'm taking about our former society, that's your business. I have thinks to do, people to save and monsters to kill. You want a better world than what is now here, build it yourselves." - Last recorded message from Talmoten Agary, The worlds for most mage and destroyer of the world.

During a visit with his family to an old temple from a couple thousand years back, Thom found a room with glowing runes in it. The runes seemed to be moving around in a pattern, and that pattern was speeding up. Though magic was rare then, Thom knew what the runes meant: Something bad. He quickly yelled for everyone to exit the temple. As he ushered the last tourists out, a magic blast over took him and he blacked out. When he awoke, he found himself on the edge of of the now island floating in air. He also found that he had changed. He had blue skin, horns, and more. He later found out he turned that way because of the magical energy. Several other people had mutated where he was and many others were reported around the world. Thom, while trying to figure out what had happened, accidentally threw a Lightning bolt from his hand to a tree. His mother, a scientist at heart, encouraged him to practice. He do so, finding he could do more and more things through magic. Many others also showed ability to use magic. Thom knew he had to do something with this, but what?

Thom poked his head into the lab. His eyes narrowed at the thing on the table.

"What was this man doing?" Thom thought.

He composed himself. He forced his revulsion and confusion down. He shouldn't make Airra deal with that to.

"That would be great." Thom responded to Airra's offer. "Let me just get you the number."

Thom pulled out his note book out and tore out a page. Pulling out a pencil, he wrote his name, address and phone number in neat, legible hand writing.

"Thank you for your help." Thom said to Airra while he wrote.

Finished writing, Thom offered the piece of paper to Airra.

Airra took the paper. She showed him the way out. "Until next time." She said while she smiled. She stuffed the paper in her pocket. ("Now what to do? My dads gone, might as well just go into the vault with my swords.") She thought as she reached for the door to close it.

Thom bowed, said goodbye and let himself out. Outside, he was trying to finger out what he had seen and what he should about it. His thoughts were interrupted by a low growl. Thom turned his head carefully to see a humanoid creature similar to the one in the lab. It bared its teeth at Thom. Thom got to impressions from the creature. One, that it felt he was in its territory. Two, that he was threatening something it was to protect. Neither made Thom's chances of just walking away look very good.

"You understand what I'm saying?" Thom said in a calm, pleasant tone.

The creature snarled and advanced on Thom.

Airra stood at the door thinking about what to do. She went down to her fathers lab as she saw the expiriment twitch. She gaged and moved on. She entered the vault where her father locked the kitanas and entered. There they were all neatly hung up.

Thom took a couple of steps back, a hand drifting to the hilt of his sword.

"I'll take that as a no." He said.

Thom drew his sword and pointed it at the creature.

"Lets' try this." He said, his eye faintly glowing.

He sent a charge of lightning through his sword into the creature, sending it flying back. Two others ran up behind Thom and swiped him in the back. Thom yelled in pain as he sank to a knee. He lashed out with his magic to knock the creatures away.

As Airra walked through the vault, she heard a noise. "what was that?" Airra said as she grabbed 2 of her best kitanas and rushed out of the house. She saw Thom fighting creatures. "Are you alright??" she asked kitanas in hand.

Thom grunted with pain as he stood up. He cast Cure on himself and breathed a little easier.

"Fine for now." he said.

He caught site of one of the creatures coming back. He crouched down and swung his sword at its legs. The sword stuck in the creatures leg, causing it to fall. Seemingly unconcerned by the pain, the monster grabbed at Thom's leg. Thom quickly straightened and savagely stumped on its hand. He then heard the growls of the two other monsters.

"I might need a hand, if you are willing." Thom called to Airra.

Airra nodded and pulled out another kitana from its case. Her father had tied chains to the end of them for a reason Airra didnt know. She saw the two monster come up and growl in anger. She gulped and one tried to stomp on her. She stuck the kitana through its foot and it slumped back. It howled in pain and became enraged.

Thom ran his hand along the length of the blade, muttering something. As his hand passed, the blade turned a glowing blue that seemed like flames. When he reached the tip, the whole blade was aflame.

"Let's do this." Thom said.

Holding the sword with both hands, he swung his sword to cleave through the one of the creatures chest. It hollowed in pain then fell dead.

"One down." Thom muttered.

He turned around and brought up his sword above his head in a ready stance. One of the creatures charged, its claws out stretched, ready to tare into Thom's flesh. Thom side stepped and swiped down, severing the creatures arm.

Airra was shocked at the speed at which he had killed the other creature. Airra saw the injured creature stumble towards her. She sent her kitanas flying out of her hands and gripping onto the chains that were tied to it. It slashed through the monsters body and it layed there. She sighs and pulls on the chains as he kitanas come out of the dead monster.

Thom raised an eyebrow.

"Good strike." He called to Airra.

He dropped to a knee and sliced through the leg of the creature he was fighting. It fell hard, face down. Thom jumped up with lightning speed and stabbed down with the sword, penetrating where the creature's heart should be. Certain that this one was dead, Thom pulled out his sword and slung it around, removing the blood and magic aura from it.

"Thanks for the help." Thom thanked Airra.

Airra nodded and slipped the kitanas into the cases. "No problem." She said as she rubbed her skin and sighed. She then heard a faint yell and saw her father running up to her. "Oh great." She said. "Airra are you alright?" Doctor silver asked.

Thom eyed the doctor coldly. Had he sent these creatures after Thom and Airra or had he lost control? Both were disturbing possibilities.

"Doctor Silver." Thom said to get the Doctor's attention. "Sorry for the inconvenience, but do you know anything about these monsters?"

Doctor Silver grunted and fixed his coat. "Of course not. I wouldnt create such monstrosities as these." Doctor Silver answered him. Airra looked at creature. ("These do kinda look like what dads expirimenting on. But if he is lying, then why make something so dangerous?") She thought. "And ill take that." Doctor Silver said as he grabbed the kitanas from Airra. Airra sighed.

Thom wasn't convinced about the Doctor's claim, but he didn't have enough evidence to prove other wise.

"Fair enough." Thom said. "In that case, sir, if it would not be too much of an inconvenience, I wonder if you would answer some questions about what you have learned about and since the Blast?"

Dr. Silver took a deep breath. "Well to be on the safe side. Lets head back to my lab and all answer all your questions. And i can give you a punishment." He said as he turned to Airra and walked towards the house. "Lets go?" Airra said as she faked a smile.

Thom saw through Airra's smile. He would have to do some deflecting.

"You have a fine daughter, sir." Thom called after the doctor. "I don't think I would have made it through that attack with out her help. She's got a real talent."

As he walked past Airra, he gave her a wink and mouthed the words "thank you."

Airra smiled and walked behind. "She is a great girl huh? But she knows she isnt supposed to use her weapons right Airra?" Doctor silver said as he kept walking. Airra sighed. "Right." She replied. The doctor nodded. They reached the house and entered. Doctor Silver headed to the vault and threw her weapons away. "So young man, what were your questions?" Doctor Silver asked.

Thom inwardly grimaced as his plan didn't get as much heat off Airra as he would of liked.

"Oh well." He thinks.

He cleared his throat.

"I was wondering what you have been able to discover about the new influx of magic since the Blast?" Thom asked. "Specifically, what effect had it on your experiments at the time?"

"Well, at the time when the blast occured i was testing Airra and her brother. After the blast Airra brother had a seriouse amount of magic in him. He wasnt safe. He ended up disappearing. On the other hand, i havent gotten far in the expiriment since Airra refuses for me to see the magic that entered her body. But from what i know that magic is dangerous it alternates amything and everything it gets a hold of. Thats why i am creating these creatures so they can endure the magic and i can go from there." He said as he uncovered the creatures lying on the table.

Thom narrowed as he looked at the creature again. He still didn't think that this was right, but for now, another thing sparked his interest.

"You said that Airra's brother had magic before the Blast. Did he feel it coming?" Thom asked, eagerly.

Thom had heard rumors that the mages before the blast had felt something was going on, but had found no evidence to support that.

"I dont recal him telling me anything about that." Doctor Silver Said. Airra sighed and exited the lab. "Excuse Airra. Shed not very 'comfortable' talking about her brother." Doctor Silver said as he started working on his expiriments. "Is that all for you?" He asked.

Thom smiled politely.

"Yes, sir." He said. "I might need to follow this up later, if you don't mind."

With that, Thom left the lab and went looking for Airra. Thom wished there was something he could do something for her. Finding Airra, Thom called to her.

"Hey. Thanks for your help." He said.

He looked a little ashamed.

"And sorry for bring up your brother."

Airra sighed and plopped herself on the couch. "Its alright." Airra said. "Hes gone anyways. Airra said as she stretched out on the couch. "Sorry if my dad didnt have any information you wanted." Airra said. ("Wonder when my dads gonna start yelling at me about me fighting again.") She though as she looked at Thom.

Thom snorted and gave a weak smile.

"I've been hitting dead ends for a long time now." He explained. "This is just one more."

Thom glanced back toward the lab than back to Airra.

"Hey, wanna give me a hand? It'll get you out of the house and give me a chance to pay you back some how."
