Shattered World (1x1 with khfreaker01)

Posted

"In order to build something new, the old must be torn down. This is true for buildings and so it is true for worlds. Our world was once a thriving industrial world. Now it is a patch work of floating rocks. I tore down our world to fix what needed fixing. If you want to infer that I'm taking about our former society, that's your business. I have thinks to do, people to save and monsters to kill. You want a better world than what is now here, build it yourselves." - Last recorded message from Talmoten Agary, The worlds for most mage and destroyer of the world.

During a visit with his family to an old temple from a couple thousand years back, Thom found a room with glowing runes in it. The runes seemed to be moving around in a pattern, and that pattern was speeding up. Though magic was rare then, Thom knew what the runes meant: Something bad. He quickly yelled for everyone to exit the temple. As he ushered the last tourists out, a magic blast over took him and he blacked out. When he awoke, he found himself on the edge of of the now island floating in air. He also found that he had changed. He had blue skin, horns, and more. He later found out he turned that way because of the magical energy. Several other people had mutated where he was and many others were reported around the world. Thom, while trying to figure out what had happened, accidentally threw a Lightning bolt from his hand to a tree. His mother, a scientist at heart, encouraged him to practice. He do so, finding he could do more and more things through magic. Many others also showed ability to use magic. Thom knew he had to do something with this, but what?

Asher grinned and agreed with him. Airra stood by her back turned from the boys. 'This is all confusing! I dont understand! Do they want everything to go back to normal? That unlikely! Whatevers happened wont change!' Airra thought as she sighed. She exhaled then turned to Asher. "Why do you want to find out who created the blast?" She asked him intently. Asher laughed. "I guess you can say im desperate, i wanna be human again." Asher rellied looking at the building.

Thom nodded. He had had such feelings like that for awhile after the Blast. But now, he couldn't see himself returning to being a normal human again. He had more to help now, how could he give that up because of a selfish feeling? While that was his reason, he didn't look down on Asher's wishes. He could decide his own path himself.

"Well, this is as good a place to look as any for that kind of info." Thom said.

He pause in step and sniffed. There was a human scent through here and it passed through recently.

Airra stood next to Asher, they both looked at the building. "Its kinda scary." Airra said. Asher nodded then turned to her. "You have cuffs?" Asher asked. Airra nodded. He smiled and turned around. "Well we wont find anything out here. Lets go." Asher said as he walked inside.

"Just keep your eyes pealed." Thom warned. "This buildings had tight security systems when the were being used. auto turrets and the like. I doubt they are still active, but it never pays to be too confident of facts like that."

He glanced inside. The smell of the human led into the building.

"And we might not be alone."

Thom walked in, every one of his senses stretched out, try to make sure everything stayed quiet and stationary.

Airra slowly followed the boys inside. She stayed close to them and looked around. 'Something about this place doesnt feel right." Airra thought as she walked closly to Asher. Asher walked slowly and saw a door flashing. He paused infront of it and waited. 'This doors been unlocked. Hmm..' he thought as he stood there.

Thom grimaced at the door. Not a good sign at all.

"Here, I'll go first." He said.

He walked to the door and slowly pushed in. Inside was a small office/file area. Thom continued cautiously farther in. He picked up a file to glance at the title. "Cafeteria bills and receipts" was the title. Thom was under impressed. Why had this door been opened?

"Airra stay out here , ill go inside after Thom." He said as he followed Thom into the room. "What you got there?" Asher asked stepping beside him. Thom handed him the file and Asher examined it. "Well aint that weird." Asher announced. Airra looked into the dark hallway. She saw something flashing. She looked back at the boys and headed towards the flashing. She saw a crack under the door and heard loud bangings. "Whats in there?" She whispered to herself.

"This just doesn't make sense." Thom said, rubbing the back of his head.

He stopped himself and took a deep breath.

"Alright, there are millions of reasons someone would want to come back here. One, they left something important here."

He pointed to the file Asher was holding.

"Not that. Okay, maybe something personal or..."

His voice trailed off. He looked around nervously.

"Or something you don't want people to see."

He moved towards the office door than stopped.

"Where's Airra?"

Asher dropped the peice of paper. "What?" He said quickly and rushed towards the opening. "Where the helld she go?" He said looking into the hallway. Airra looked at the door and heard footsteos. She hesitated then came to the conclusion that someone was in the room she heard something rattle. She took small steps back slowly.

Thom dashed over to Asher and clammed a hand across his mouth.

"Quiet." He hissed.

He glanced around quickly.

"The three of us aren't the only ones here."

He took his hand away from Asher's mouth and closed his eyes. He sniffed the air. While his nose wasn't good enough to track someone like that of a dog's or wolf's, but he could smell magic. Airra had magic, he should be able to sniff that out. He took a moment to let the smell sink in.

"This way." Thom almost whispered as he stalked down the hall Airra had gone, keeping his eyes darting around.

Asher followed behind Asher carefully. They walked down the hallway. ("He can actually smell her magic? Hmm. That means shes been increasing! Thats good!") He thought to himself as they saw Airra come around the corner carefully.

Thom planted a finger to his mouth to try to keep Airra silent.

"We've got several other people in the building." He said softly. "No idea where, but I doubt this place is as inactive as the MDD would like us to think."

"Uh, yeah i kind of realised we arent alone. Theres someone behind a door at the end of the hallway." She said in a whisper. Ashee looked down the hallways and saw the light in the crack of the door. "I think id be best to wait. what do you think?" Asher asked Thom quietly.

Thom studied the door a moment. He judged and timed a few things in his head.

"Yeah, we can wait for a little bit." He agreed. "But not too long. After a bit, we move."

Thom was a little unease with that decision. He wanted to move now, but he knew Asher was right. Waiting for that someone to come out rather than jumping into an unknown situation was a better idea.

  • 2 weeks later...

They entered the room again and waited. In the hallway there sounded another hard slam in the hallway, a door had slammed shut. Asher looked patient leaning against the wall, he saw Airra with and uneased look on her face. He walked towards her and put a hand on her shoulder. "Calm down we will be ok. Stop worrying." Asher said trying to reassure her. He then turned to Thom and saw him looking through some files. "When should we start heading out? Sounds empty to me." Asher said as he sighed and put his hands behind his head.

Thom stuffed the files back in the cabnet and looked back at the siblings. A look of uncertainty in his eyes.

"Probably." he said in an uncertain voice.

He took in a deep breath and caught a whif if magic coming from their target's location. Thom froze.

"He's using magic." he whispered.

Thom growled.

"Can't tell what he's trying. No matter what, we need to move."

Asher and Airra nodded, Airra pulled out two kitanas and handed her brother one and keoy the other to herself. She pulled off her cuffs and readied herself, if anything came across her way she would transfer her magic into the kitana in a flash without the cuffs, She was taking a big risk being without them. She smiled at the two and gestured for them to go on ahead.

Thom pulled his Glock and kept an eye on the door.

"Asher." he said in a low tone. "I'll go first to make sure we don't have anybody blocking our exit. You two worry about our rears."

Thom then moved into the hall and headed back toward the front doors. Half way there, Thom stopped. He stuck his gun under his arm. He then rubbed his hands together, calling magic. Small lights sparked from his hands. He opened his hands and blew. The sparks flew forward and took on a vague humanoid shape as it seemed to run to the front door. Nobody shot at the illusion as is passed through the foyer.

He glanced back at Airra and Asher. He gave them a thumbs up and started to move to the foyer again.
