Sony has announced a new external battery for the PlayStation Vita that supposedly adds an additional 6-10 hours of life to the handheld console. The battery's capacity will be 5000mAh which is more than double the Vita's internal battery of 2200mAh. Therefore, with both batteries you'll be able to get a whopping 9-15 hours of playtime out of your Vita with this accessory.

 

The external battery weighs 145g (about 5 ounces), its dimensions are 70x67x22mm and it will be released in Spring 2012. The price for the battery is still undecided.

 

Would you be willing to throw down an extra money so to get additional play time from your Vita, or are you going to stick with the standard internal battery that the console will come with?

If they also have an external charger, it would be worth getting the extended battery for it. I did so with the PSP and I could play continuously without having to stop for charging.

I figured something like this would come up, since the 3DS got something similar. It should be good for those who like to play their games for a long time, but I never really play for more than an hour or two.

ds lite did have great battery but i guess for systems to get better are batteries are to hold less hours.

Yeah. But I'm sure the batteries will get better in a few years. Then in another few years the systems will be better and the batteries won't last as long. And the whole process will repeat over and over.
