PETA Targets Mario for Tanooki Abuse

PETA - People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals - is known for taking some wild stands against various forms of entertainment. But its most recent target is a rather surprising one - everyone's favorite plumber, Mario.

In a mini-site called Mario Kills Tanooki, PETA is lampooning the plumber for his new Tanooki Tail Power-Suit, claiming it encourages the wearing of fur.

"When on a mission to rescue the princess, Mario has been known to use any means necessary to defeat his enemy - even wearing the skin of a raccoon dog to give him special powers," the site asserts. "Tanooki may be just a "suit" in Mario games, but in real life, tanuki are raccoon dogs who are skinned alive for their fur. By wearing Tanooki, Mario is sending the message that it's OK to wear fur."

The site also includes a poorly-made mini-game in which a skinned Tanooki tries to chase down Mario to get his fur back, pictured below.

We're all for animal rights, but seriously, PETA. You're going after Mario?!

And here we thought Mario got the Power-Suit from a Super Leaf that transformed him into Tanooki Mario. Our mistake. I suppose this means he skinned a giant bee for his Bee Suit in Super Mario Galaxy 2… and I tremble to think as to the real source of his bunny ears in Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins.

I hate PETA's sense of humor now.

Let's not forget how he jumps on Koopas, Throws their shells at other karts, and squish wigglers.

AND THEY ARE JUST NOTICING THIS NOW!?

I swear if I ever meet a PETA member in real life, I'm going to tie them to a chair and force them to watch me decapitate every endangered animal I can find.

To care about this would imply that one thinks PETA is still relevent.

If i meet a PETA member in real life, I'll make them eat a raccoon burger.

Beat the game in a good 20 secs. Poor Mario just got destroyed.

Honestly though, why do they think he wears real tanooki skin? It's more than likely it's an outfit, you know, not real.

Is it ok if I join.

tutti frutti. So they tag a video game character with a different colored attire with ears and a tail glued on to it? Really PETA?!?! I'm kind of shocked that they didn't do this stupid stunt on any other game in the world. Mario gets tagged for something like this, but not other games like Catherine (nothing against this game, I like it myself. Great puzzle game) Next thing you know, they will say it's animal abuse to ride a bird or horse in the Legend of Zelda series.

I care about animals a lot, but this is just firetrucking stupid. Seriously. It's just an animal costume for Mario, it's not like the game is saying go out and kill animals and wear their fur because it's cool.

tutti frutti. Plus, where were they when Hercules was literally weaing Scar in his movie? Mario plucks a leaf off of a tree to wear pajamas, but for all we know somebody could have skinned Scar alive and gave the fur to Hercules. I don't really remember anything happening there.
